Melvins - Electroretard 4/5
The Melvins reassert their power-sludge dominance

The Melvins are one of the haviest rock bands in the country when they want to be. Unfortunately , they've always tried to scare away commercial success by submerging their genuinely powerful momnets in a cesspoopl of snotty attitude and stupid inside jokes- like bringing in Leif Garret to sing a cover of Nirvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit." On Electroretard, the listener alienating prank cut (shitt storm) is also the only new original song on the disc. It'd probably be a great song , if it weren't recorded backwards. Fortunately , the rest of Electroretard totaly rock. Particularly astonishing are a nearly nine minute cover of the Wipers' "Youth of America" and the album's closer , a version of Pink Floyd's "Interstellar Overdrive." The Floyd cut starts almost pretty , before devolving into a morass of keyboard squeals and random drum fills. Slowly working its way back into something like "rock", it finishes nearly ten minutes later in a hail of screaming harmonics, as the sound bounces from speaker to speaker until its like being repeatedly punched in the head. Electroretard is a great record : seasoned fans and new listeners alike shouldn't let the Melvins scare them away from enjoying the pure rock power on display here.

electroretard is in my opionion perfect from beggining to end.the melvins are great masters of annoyence and rock music.i get tired of most rock n roll and metal bands,but not the melvins.they have a strange way of holding your attention.
