you might wanna pick up some items by green river. greein river was one the first grunge bands of all time (along with the melvins of course) and mark arm and steve turner (from mudhoney) were in that band. it is really good stuff , if yr on audiogalaxy or anything than , here our some reccomendations: hangin' tree , your own best friend , 10,000 things , rehab doll , etc..
also pick up anything that's released on K records , some bands on there that are good are: beat happening , halo benders & modest mouse (beck also released a folk album on that label). the melvins' first appearance ever , was on a compilation put out by K , entitled 'let's kiss'. that tape is so rare that no one knows what melvins song is on it.
if it makes you feel any better i was drew in to this whole thing by nirvana , too.

Geez, how do I start so I don't sound like an idiot. Well I'm new to the whole punk music scene and was lead into it by Nirvana. I know that I might sound kind of stupid and such but I really wanted to hear what inspired them. So I got Pixies "Surfer Rosa" and loved every second of that CD. One thing lead to another and now I'm looking for more bands to listen to. So far I got Black Flag, Pixies, Melvins, Dinosaur Jr, Husker Du, MC5, Sex Pistols, Ramones. That is a pretty small line up but I live in Maryland and it's hard to find some of these Cd's. Most of the stores are Top 100 stores so finding low key bands is hard. Well I'm just ranting so I'll stop but please tell me some bands that I should look for.

pick up anything that steve albini has ever touched. he produced nirvana's 'in utero' as well as the first pixies and helmet records. to find him, you'll have to boycott 'Top 100 stores' and after that, you'll end up boycotting cd's all together. Here's a list to start with:
Big Black - rich man's 8-track tape
Shellac - at action park
Jesus Lizard - pure
Rapeman - two nuns and a pack mule
Man or Astroman? - '..infinite spectrum'
basically, look for anything on Touch n Go, or Quarterstick Records. That should keep you from drooling over boy bands and mirah carey for a while.
