the who - tattoothe melvins should become a Who cover band, if only for one album. my head would explode if i ever heard dale and coady tackle keith's parts on "happy jack" and "a quick one while he's away." buzz and jared harmonizing on the vocal parts, too, would be great.

Grandma's Hands by Bill Withers
What about Melvins doing a Boris song? That'd be interesting. Heavy Friends would be nice. I always liked that one.

I just found out that Pinkyslim is really a guy that used to live in Long Beach, which is probably why they didn't show up at the Heroine Sheiks show. I wonder what a guy with double Ds looks like?
He (Matt) dedicated the song by Fear to 'that guy'. I have proof. You're busted.

Pulp - Common people
Behemoth - TadBehemoth with Tad
Dale on vox.
john cage - 4'33"They already did this one. "pure digital silence."
Porpoise Song - The Monkees (or Bongwater did an awesome cover)
I'd like to hear Dale singing some Phil Collins shit!
Fecal matter- class of '86 (Buffy's pregnant)
It would be cool if they did "A Quick One While He's Away" by The Who... Epic song!

RUSH-The Temples Of Syrinx(1976)HD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gfL1zhi9FY#)Ha that WOULD indeed be cool. I can imagine that. Think i'd prefer to hear Buzzo on vocals rather than Jared but still Melvins would get that Rush song rockin' alright.

i put on my scratch acid - s/t ep and it was on 33rpm instead of 45rpm. First track Cannibal starting playing and it was THUNDEROUSLY EERIE and would make an INCREDIBLE Melvins cover song.I think they could do a number on el espectro or mess by SA. Ramones covered the Waits song.
So thats my vote
Scratch Acid - Cannibal (slowed)
some others
Tom Waits - I don't wanna grow up
Neil Young - Cortez the Killer
I'd like the White rabbit cover O N L Y if they were singing like Elmer Fudd.
White Wabbit!!!

Seriously, even silly list pop can sound good in a heavier format? Or am I totally wrong? Kill me if I am, )))(((!No, i think i agree. It's just that 'Common People' is such a horrible tune that even if (and it's a big IF) the Melvins could turn it into a cool sludge number it would simply have to be instrumental since the lyrics are so godawful.
The lyrics are banal with purpose, but ok, since this suggestion disturbs you elitist music fascits so much I must replace it with another Pulp-track:Now that's one i can imagine being a much better fit Melvins wise. Believe it or not despite my Pulp slaggings i used to really quite love the 'Different Class' album when it came out. The best songs on that are all the NONE singles.
This is hardcore.
Don`t you dare question this, )))(((!
Zappa - Dirty Love
Neil Young - Time Fades Away (from test pressing CD)[/url]
alot of this stuff sounds really, really similar to the trip Melvins have been on since absorbing Big Biz ... yeah, totally.
abbey road album in it's entirety with dunn.Oohhhh yeah! I'd be interested to hear their take on the medley songs.
they love it. we love it. they'd love it.
by Warrent? :-k
Warrant - Cherry Pie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjyZKfdwlng#)
I think they could do a cracking cover of this.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - On The Hunt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KND2HBQ5Nso#)
george thorogood - I drink alone and Bad to the Bone. Release it as a 7" with a song on each side.
Definitely these two:
King Crimson - Red (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfwy0BRBc5g#)
King Crimson - One More Red Nightmare (with lyrics) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0kMtzXjSZo#)
I think it would be a perfect fit. Has Buzz ever mentioned anything about his opinion of King Crimson? I've always considered Melvins as kind of bigger, better, faster mid 70s Crimson. I feel both bands have a similar "fuck you" mentality.
Oh and anything off of Fun House would be good too.
Next time Melvins are in Canada, they need to play this:
Max Webster And Rush - Battlescar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD2aep1ge7Y#)
Jared's bass tone is much like the intro, and he could sing the Geddy parts. :D
Shit would rule. I'm not even a Kim Mitchell fan, just always dug this song.
25 lighters
Eh. True it would have complimented Directors Cut well, but I have to disagree with the statement of it suiting them more. Buzz Dale Coady and Jared would OWN this.This. Emphasis to extend and heavily distort the Emperor Theme from THE FINAL DUEL, EPISODE VI.A good choice but i can imagine it suiting Fantomas more myself. Actually it almost sounds like it IS Patton doing the vocals in the middle there too! A total 'Director's Cut' type track i think.
Have the Biz Boys do the choir thing.
Oh man that would crush.
Star Wars - The Return of the Jedi OST - Final Duel and Into the Death Star (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MHMaB0TeKc#)
Wow, you guys lost me there. Star Wars?. Nobody should ever cover Star Wars themes except for Buckethead.
Max Webster were fu cking fantastic man. Highly overlooked in their time.
Little drummer boy...done full on hung-bunny-drone style.Did Killdozer cover that on For Ladies only?

I know it is not really their style.
but it is what i want to hear .
or a Thelonius Monk tune .
Just to screw with everyone .
plus monk rules.
Not a cover as such, but I'd love them to have been given carte blanche to write the music for Blade Runner. Such a wonderful film. Such dreadful farty keyboard music to go with it.
I'm sure Melvins would have created something more appropriately claustrobic and threatening. As it is, I watch this film with the sound down, subtitles on and Pigs of the Roman Empire on the CD player. It works.

They would probably have a lot of fun with a Monk cover. Playing with all that off time stuff.. This is a very intriguing idea...

The Melvins' version of Deep Purple's "Space Truckin'" that exists in my head tears the original version a new asshole. And the original version is one of my favorites. This needs to happen.
I'd kill to hear them do anything off Machine Head! But Space Truckin'
or Highway Star would be the wailing ultimate!
So for the first time in years, I've been re-visiting and digging in to the Holy Trinity of Deep Purple (MK II) releases - In Rock/Fireball/Machine Head. In doing so I was hit with the realization that they (Melvins) must really dig Purple ... alot of this stuff sounds really, really similar to the trip Melvins have been on since absorbing Big Biz ... yeah, totally. Then in the recent "Ask Dale" interview; Crover's accolades of Paice just nailed this realization ... suprised I hadn't noticed it before; I mean those three DP records have been pretty central in my music listening ... I know them inside out as it were. So yeah, suprised I didn't notice earlier
Suffice to say they should cover "Bloodsucker" ... sounds right up this line up's alley ...
That would be awesome with the dueling Black Flag's out on the road this summer if Melvins decided to do all of side 2 of My War. Would bury either of the Flag's version probably. If only!!!
Amazing given the amount of covers over the years that they never did a Captain Beefheart song.
Ive seen buzz say he was a major influence quite often.
I think even terrorizer magazine once described buzz as 'the beefheart of metal'!!
'Big eyed beans from venus'
'Beatles bones n smokin stones'
Or 'trust us' would be legend.
duno, they could do some Disney songs and I would be happy. They would kill "part of your world" from Little Mermaid. Done anti vermin seed fashion. Make it barely recognizable.
motorhead - live to winI guess Clergyman (wherever he is) must be ecstatic.
venom - warhead or buried alive
scorpions - i'm goin mad
discharge - doomsday
hawkwind - magnu
if they did any of these, I would be ecstatic...
i can see Melvins doing an amazing version of this song :o

I have no idea who Bongwater is. Probly some generic "stoner" rock as the degenerates call it.
Electric Café! Extremely underrated.effing' masterpiece! The cover of David Bowie's Station To Station makes me think they could really turn this into some late '90's Am Rep weirdness.

id be pleased to hear a trumans water cover by them
I wanna hear Melvins cover some bubblegum pop.
a Cure cover would be cool! Something like 'In Between Days', 'Boys Don't Cry'Sinking is a great song.
'The Baby Screams' or 'A Night Like This'
Hell, I'd love for them to cover the whole Head On The Door record!
Hell yes!

Have they done a Beatles song yet? Can't recall.
Have they done a Beatles song yet? Can't recall.
Yep. "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", fall '04 POTRE tour. I remember it really rocked.
Also, seeing Buzz get a decent chunk of screentime in FIX: The Ministry Movie made me wonder how a Melvins cover of a Ministry song would be. I could see them doing really well with one of their bigger metal songs like "Thieves" or "So What" or also to see them mutate a more left-field, non-heavy pick like "Every Day is Halloween" or "Work For Love".Something from Twitch or Land Of Rape And Honey played in the style of some Electroretard remixes, that would rule.
I want to see Big Business opening for Melvins but playing only Melvins songs. Big Melvins would then play an hour of Big Business songs - during any part they didn't want to involve themselves with musically, Dale and Buzz could act out scenes from The Tempest or Moby Dick throughout the second set.
During the interval, Trevor Dunn and David Scott Stone would box each other in a boxing ring on stage while singing songs a cappella from Ozma.
They should cover Rush's Cygnus X-1 saga!!!
I think I've mentioned this song before here, but Melvins & Primus should collaborate and cover it:

CAN could be a good choice with their long hypnotic songs.
On the other hand Black Flag's Nothing Left Inside would be great, too.

Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gee's. I think they could pull the harmonies off. It'd have to be the big business lineup for the extra percussion and Jared and coadys voices
I would enjoy it. Maybe a lesser known disco number would be better, though?
Heard it on Psychedelic Sunday today - Q107 Toronto. Melvins would own this:This totally!!

https://www.secretserpents.com/products/altamont-the-phantom-ships-etched-split-7-pre-order
Well, Altamont covered it, and it smokes. I can't believe this one didn't sell out. If it was under the moniker "Melvins" it would have, and at quadruple the price.
I hope the next Melvins album has no cover songs on it. Not that i dislike the covers they do, but i feel like recently their records have given over too much runtime to multiple cover songs. One song can be okay but the last 3 albums particularly have been far too heavily laden with covers. All to their detriment i might add. I'd like to hear a full Melvins album of new material from front to back without hearing a tongue in cheek, ironic cover song or something that doesn't sit well with what surrounds it.
