I'm going to be totally honest and say that the stuff with Jared and Coady just isn't as much my thing as the earlier Melvins music. Maybe they'll surprise me with something really good next... "Civilized Worm", "The Smiling Cobra", and "I'll Finish You Off" were great songs, but other than that I'd like to see what just Buzz and Dale could do again.

Seems like Buzz and Dale are truly committed to the 4 piece concept.
The next album will definitely include Jared and Coady, no doubt.

What I'd really like to see is people stop bitching about the current line up.

...that, and they still need to play Hospital Up live for us.

I have a sensation inside me that stirs and whispers to me that the BB guys wont be rockin' with B n' D for early 2011. Spaceland residency, maybe, but the Australia trip, not so maybe...they didn't go last time, right?

Doesn't Big Business have a new album to make anyway?

I voted Yes, btw.

I dont think i mind either way really. I love alot of the old stuff with the Kevin era being my favourite, yet although i thought Bride was a step down from the other recent two i still love the four piece band. I do wonder what would happen if the BB lads moved on. Who would play bass then? Hire two bass players or something equally unexpected perhaps? Like it or otherwise i agree with what Black Stallion said before in that this version of the band will be seen in time to be the "definitive" Melvins line-up. So i guess i'll vote YES above then.

I think that had more to do with the fact it was a Fantomas tour. Lombardo was unavailable so Crover filled in on drums and then as the tour got closer Buzz & Dale decided to play two (then three) Melvins shows with Dunn filling in on bass. I think it had a fair bit to do with circumstances than anything else. But in saying that I much prefer Rutmanis-era Melvins, I think HAT is the best album the band has done or will do.

my dream would be a studio album with just Buzz&Dale, lots of overdubs made by both of them...Buzz playing bass on most of the songs and Dale playing some guitar too.
being more concrete, you know which is my opinion, there will be not only a fourth album with Jared and Coady but a lot more.

It just makes sense, I could tell they were having a blast at the Opera House.
They all kept grinning and smiling at each other throughout the show.
Jared would nail a bass run and Buzz would look over and nod with a wink.
Buzz would start a song and Coady was grinning waiting for his cue to start pounding.
And Dale and Coady are like brothers now. They seem to really enjoy beating the shit
out of their kits together. It's a group, not a freelance liaison

Not that I don't like those records, BUT...

I crave change. You know?

I'm more concerned about what comes after the next album.  Somehow I seriously doubt they are going to stop writing music.  Do you think they'll only put out singles?  Do you think everything will only be special editions sold at shows?

I think this is the last MELVINS line-up. as in they will never hire another permanant bass player.  everything after this will be the 2 piece or guests like t dunn.

or they could do like the stones did with mr. darryl jones (who??), who's been playing with them since bill wyman's deprature in the early90's or something, but never made it as an official rolling stone (meaning he doesn't have to appear in photoshoots etc.).

I highly doubt this as Buzz and Dale dont seem the egotisical, possessive sort. They appear much more inclusive and involved with the various members over the years allowing them to florish within the group and contribute. I cant see them allowing this to happen and then declaring "oh such and such isnt really in the band" all dictator like as though they're Mark E Smith or something.

Lineup is okay, although  it has permanently changed Dale's style and Buzz needs to get his ears checked up on, his tone sounds like piss. There I said it.

Been a while since I`ve seen Melvins live, and it`s their live-performance I crave. If they are a three-piece or 4 together with BB doesn`t matter, as long as the some of the old stuff is being played.

Also, I'll bet there is a 50/50 chance you don't even play guitar, or have ever
picked one up. But, by all means, please post some of your awesome shredding

well put jules.
and I voted no, I dont want to see another album with big business. or if they did I hope they tell jared hes not allowed to sing   hes a terrible vocalist IMO and ruins every melvins song he sings on. he also needs to get rid of his gay little jazz bass. I said it before and Ill say it once more, two drummers = severely muddy live sound. seeing the melvins play as a 4 pc  a couple months before seeing them play as a 3 with trevor totally proved that for me.
these are just my opinions, so please no hate messages.

There have been some great moments with BB.  I just hope to hear a two piece Buzz and Dale album as the closer to their long beautiful career (which I hope never ends).

I think jared's best vocal moment is on  A History of Bad Men. But either way NO ONE sounds like Buzz.

I also secretly wish for a Melvins/nomeansno collaboration.

And a Fantomas pinball machine that makes mike patton noises.

Can We also get  a little more David Scott Stone and that wire thing that makes the great sounds?

I also want to be able to buy Mackie's art at the merch booth.

I cant help it

my melvins boner just wont go down

That would be really cool actually. After all the years and all the band members it all comes down to Buzz and Dale in the end. Can you imagine how lovely a farewell tour with just the two of them would be? I dont want to see that for at least another 20 years tho!

In 20 years, Buzz would be 66.  Probably not a pretty sight (think Keith Richards, Bob Dylan).

This discussion is getting old really fast.

Ultimately, this is purely subjective and arguing over this is just plain retarded.

Having said that, I highly suggest to those who don't like the four piece iteration of the melvins to get used to it because I highly doubt this will change.

Besides, didn't Glen say that this was most likely the LAST iteration of the Melvins? did he not predict the fall of the great rutmanis? Did he not make copies of "The End" LP available out of thin air? Trust in the banana.

Also, if they do go back to a three piece I think that the obvious choice is the one and only, Trevor fucking Dunn.

As much as I love the current line up...........when I was backstage at the D.C. show,
Dale did say to me that they, the Melvins, did/do things in 3's . Lots of examples for
3 being the magic number, but those guys have also been known to pull a fast one &
fake everyone out. I'm sure whatever they decide to do will be awesome, but again,
I would love to see them stay with Coady & Jared.

Well what are you trying to say, being a fan, that they should do another with BB?  Melvins do things their own way so they don't need you telling them what to do Mr. Passive/Aggressive.

Despite when any of us think about this, I think we can all agree that when the Melvins ARE done, they should finish it off with a tour where every single person who has ever been in the band performs every song they've ever written all at once.

I'm trying to say that they should do what they want.  Buzz said they are doing another record with Jared and Coady.  I'm not telling them what to do.  If Buzz wants to fire them and hire Jack White I'd assume he knows what he's doing.

The people who voted no seem to be stuck in the past and want them to go back to playing Bullhead, GPT, HAT, (insert past album here) material.  I voted yes because it's where the Melvins want to go and they know what's best.  Am I making sense?

Even if Buzz did say they were doing another album with BB (and I'm not sure he ever did) he cannot be sure at this point or better yet trusted because musicians are really good liars.
Some people who voted no are not stuck in the past (I for one) but hoping for something fresh and experimental like Stag, but not Stag retreaded.  These last 3 albums have been superb as far as I'm concerned, but one more and it will seem like they are stuck in a rut.  One can't be certain how much BB have contributed to this happening or not.  I am just hoping for large scale changes.

There are a ton of interviews so there is no way I'll find it, but Buzz pretty much said that unless Jared and Coady go insane they'll make another album with them.  I also read another interview where it was said that Buzz wrote everything on Nude With Boots except for the last two songs and the cover, and on BSM he wrote everything except I'll Finish You Off and maybe the last song.

I think we are all going to be pleasantly surprised by the next album.  It will be the start of a new trilogy and a new Melvins sound.  As Glen oft says:  you can mark my words (in Sharpie even). :D

ASA - One of my top 5 favorites
NWB - Probably my favorite Melvins album
BSM - A great record but not my favorite

Does that answer your question?

Nude With Boots is the best Biz/Melvins album. Also, BSM and A(S)A sound totally different, I don't get this sameiness argument. I mean, they're generally rock albums with guitars and drums, but that's about it.

Can We also get  a little more David Scott Stone and that wire thing that makes the great sounds?

DSS is living the good life and playing in LCD Soundsystem (!) of all things.

I for one wouldn't mind another album with Jared and Coady. Personally, I think each album has gotten progressively better with Bride Screamed Murder being fantastic. No matter what Melvins decide to release, I am confidant it will be awesome, I just hope it is nice and noisy and experimental.

Noise rock isn't experimental anymore. I think the results have been tallied and statistics have been thoroughly analysed by this point.

NWB - Probably my favorite Melvins album

That's why you get so aggressive when someone sprays the new Melvins.

To me, the last two sound like "Dad rock Melvins" albums. Not a bad thing, but so much is different now, they're a very different band.

they're a very different band.

You could say the same thing about every single album they've ever released, including Gluey Porch Treatments.  Nude With Boots is some of the best music I've ever heard.  You guys are missing out big time.

The aggressiveness comes from the shock that people want the Melvins to do exactly what they as a fan want instead of what the band wants.  That's not what The Melvins have ever been about.  Since Buzz said he wants to do another album with Big Business it's shocking to me that people aren't all for it.

However, the one and only correct answer should be "Whatever the hell Buzz wants to do".

I like Nude with Boots a lot, but to me it has some filler, mainly The Stupid Creep and It Tastes Better Than the Truth. Other than that I like it a lot, and I absolutely love Billy Fish.

I mean "Dad Rock", relatively speaking....from a Melvin's perspective of course!

Just can't see a balls-out rip your face again kind of sound again from this band again. That's one part of the Melvins I really enjoy.....and kind of miss! But at the end of it all just glad they're still going and doing their own thing.

Also, if they do go back to a three piece I think that the obvious choice is the one and only,

Paul Barker!

Robbie Shakespeare would be my first choice but obviously he'll never part with Sly.

Yes absolutley Paul Barker!  that deserves a chance to happen.
