Do we know the format, yet? Will it be whole performances of songs or just a snippet from every tour stop?

Got this in an email:

MELVINS: ACROSS THE USA IN 51 DAYS DVD
In 2012 the Melvins set a world record by traveling around the USA, playing all 50 states plus Washington DC in 51 days! This proves it. This DVD is a record of their travel shot entirely on mobile phones. It highlights scenes from their massively successful world record setting tour.

If the rest of the movie is like those two trailers i would say this film is going to be a real waste of money. A watch once and then never again scenario. With 1 minute of each show i can see some fans who don't know what they're getting with this being pretty disappointed. Nah i'll catch it on youtube.

If this isn`t Conda who has manipulated Ians text, then Ian is in for some real digital wedgie. What are you thinking about, Ian, don`t you know the consequences? And why, my friend, so negative?

something tells me that it isn't going to be all that rewarding as a film. For me personally anyway. Perhaps others will enjoy it i guess. I always find music DVD's kind of disappointing though i must say.
I'm buying it because it says Melvins on it. Don't feel left out later.  :buzz:

Really wish this was a pro-shot HD concert film of the dang Freak Puke set, but oh well!  :?

I kinda agree most bands DVD's are crap and probably the only band I could watch more than once was Pantera's behind the scenes/tour videos because they were hilarious especially Vulgar Video. To this day my brother and I still recite lines from those vids at each other.

Two things with this Melvins 51/51 DVD that stick out a) it only goes for about an hour when at minimum should be at least two hours and b) a full live set from one of the shows or a set's worth of live footage from numerous shows should have been included.

The feeling I get from the trailer is that it'ss supposed to be a document of the tour. Kind of like Zappa's Baby Snakes. Some performances (or not) with a mix of tour insanity documentation.

The Melvins are never wrong.

You contradict yourself so much in that post I don't even know where to begin. Having said that, you're not into it and that's fine.

This documentary feels unique and fresh, in my mind. Part of the appeal is the insanity of embarking on such a tour and going through with it.

The fact that it was filmed entirely on mobile phones is very appealing to me. There's an intimate aspect to it that's very interesting.

And Glen is absolutely right. The price is right.

I get what you're saying, though. I have a shelf full of live concert DVDs that I never, ever watch. I'll put them on sometime, but seldomly.

And yet, I watch youtube videos almost everyday.

Buzz and Dale are more verbal and better equipped verbally than most bands/artists I've heard interviewed and they are witty as hell. Rather that than some dull interviews with Om or Sleep. I can watch a 10 minute interview with them just for entertainment sake. AND Buzz could become an undergeound stand up king, he has a fantastic nose for punchlined.

Based on the trailer, it will likely be a fun watch at least once, but not a repeater. $10 bucks + cell phone footage + 1hr running time= expectations comfortably low.

I think it will be a fun addition to the Melvins filmography - kind of like "Prick" is a fun part of their discography. I am excited to watch it - and I imagine I will watch it every 5 years or so.

This is kind of how I feel.  I couldn't get into Primus' Blame it on the Fish DVD at all.  I wish they would at least thrown in some bonus footage.

Then again it's the year 2015 and youtube exists.  We already have a full pro shot set available for free on youtube right now.  It's much better quality than the Salad of a Thousand Delights DVD I bought for $15 ten years ago as well.  I can't really complain.

Yeah the shipping is kinda steep but I'm lazy and impatient. I could wait until the next time they come thru and probably get it cheaper but fuck it, I want that bitch delivered to my door! For the record I have no expectations so I'll be happy. I've known that it was all 1 minute clips from every state since I first heard about it. I think it'll be a nice little collage of their record setting tour. Plus all those guys are hilarious so i should be fun!

This DVD is not exclusive to the new Ipecac store. Most online stores like Amazon & Best Buy will have it too on 11/13.
This should be cool. How the fuck can anyone complain about this? [-X  It's freaking 10 bucks. Don't think of it as a "concert movie", more like a reality show of life on the road w/ Melvins. I'm guessing it's mostly dialog/shenanigans and the focus is not on full songs and sound/picture quality. If that's not your thing, then don't buy it.

If you learned of this DVD at this thread, and instantly ordered from Ipecac store that's foolish. Their shipping fees suck. The street date for the this is 11/13. Yes, some bonus footage of complete songs would be sweet, but I wouldn't bet on it. Maybe COD will cover that. 8)

This type of thinking got me $1,000 in the hole last year.  I'm out of debt now but that wasn't fun.  I'm going to at least wait for some reviews.  10 dollars can actually buy quite a bit including:

-Food for a week
-A coffee machine that I need to replace (Technically $14)
-Half a tank of gas
-A box of condoms
-Movies I'll watch more than one time

It adds up.

As I've already stated, this is a rock and roll movie along the lines of Baby Snakes, The Kids are Alright, etc. It'll be great.

Not sure why people would have any negative reaction to this DVD. It costs the same as almost any movie. I'm broke as shit, I'm buying it lol. Its supposed to be an interesting and entertaining movie with 1 minute in each city which I find funny. I don't expect anything from the Melvin's so I wouldn't have the balls to complain with what they do they don't us owe us a thing. I'm sure most of us are looking forward to this anyhow, can't fucking wait! Whens the actual official documentary coming out?

Not sure why people would have any negative reaction to this DVD.

I'm highly skeptical when pretty much every other home video of a band dicking around back stage, dicking around on a tour bus, and being silly is the main focus of the video instead of the music.  I don't think I've ever seen one that's been good.  I'm a huge fan of Primus but I thought their Blame it on the Fish DVD sucked and I don't want to get burned again.

Based solely on the trailer I think if they combined the 1min footage with live footage it could have ended up being as awesome as the Butthole Surfers' Blind Eye Sees All DVD.

But again, I haven't seen it.  It could be the best DVD ever for all I know.  As it is I'm going to wait for people to review it before I buy it.  My gut feeling tells me it will be funny to watch once and then I won't watch it again for several years.

This isn't true.  I bought the Austin Powers trilogy on Blu Ray for $10.  I also just bought 8 Jackie Chan films on DVD for $4.

Ipecac is supposed to ship today. I shouldn't have pre-ordered it, I could have bought it this morning. But I didn't know if it was going to be limited or not. Can't wait to see it.

I was going to order this, but shipping to the UK is twice the price of the DVD.
So hopefully it'll make it in to some music stores over here.
It will be available from Amazon; maybe that will be cheaper for postage.

Just picked this up from Amazon UK.
£10 including shipping which saved me £8.
Which I can now spend on drugs and liquor!

Just sat down & watched it. Great lil' flick for the price. So much going on, you wish every segment was longer of course. The film is a little fucked technically if you watch it on a old-style 27" TV screen. The names on the screen in the menu & beginning for instance stretch beyond the screen size, & there's no adjustment like there is if you are watching TV on an analog signal. l I guess you have to have a modern big-screen LED TV in order to see the full picture.

Melvins is truly a rare and exceptional achievement in modern filmmaking in that it manages to be new, fresh, hip, and exciting without ever tiring its audience out.  If you are open-minded, creative, and alert, you'll definitely appreciate and get a kick out of this disaster film. If you're walking into this without the desire to participate and actively analyze the mysterious details - it will have you covered too because this film is ACTION.  Frame for frame this film screams Michael Bay but somehow also manages to avoid any worn out cliches often seen in other disaster films and said infamous director. Seeing CGI is enough to wring out any childhood fantasy from anybody (not just boys from the 80s) and watching the large scale destruction of the world from the evil Space Invaders is a revelation to what is possible with modern visual effects. Whether it's tornadoes, nuclear holocausts or meteors, this alone makes the film compete on a highly adrenaline fueled level and unlike the other blockbusters that have came out this year, these effects have a sense of weight that adds so much to the visual satisfaction.

The special effects and majority of the action is over in the first half of the movie however this isn't a major issue as this movie is backed strongly with a sprawling cast (with the exception of the lead character King Buzzo who was inappropriately cast with someone who looks nothing like the intended real life character that this was based on). Dunn, however was excellently cast and whether it was prosthetics or clever use of CGI, it is uncanny how much the actor looks like the person he is supposed to play. Not least of all the Crover character plays an integral part in selling the reality of the invasion and also carries an easy likability factor. The scene where the group almost drive off leaving him stranded at the hotel, as he comes out with his arms waving about, is truly a captivating moment in film history and showcases extreme prowess and screen presence as he blurs the lines between comedy and sheer terror in what can only be described as a powerhouse and master class in acting. The supporting cast does an excellent job bringing some interest to the rest of the characters too.

Due to the non-linear nature of the film, the voice over plays an integral part and does an overall superb job tying the complicated story line together. Melvins exhibits has an impressive set of exotic locations from Omaha to Honolulu and frequently jumps around form city to city and state to state (all 51 of them actually) which is evidently needed to truly show off the grand scale of the incoming apocalypse and invasion caused by the evil Space Invaders. The sudden cuts and frequent change of scenery between key scenes also help keeps the action high and suspense tight and audiences guessing in this gutsy disaster film.

Overall, Melvins delivers where it really matters and the memento-esque non-linear sequence (the Space Invaders invasion happens in the first 10 minutes) is an interesting reversal on the standard formula often employed by major hollywood pictures. With truly original cinematography, Melvins is an instant classic due to its groundbreaking narrative style and impressive dramatic undertones. For those jaded moviegoers who seek something to keep them awake, interested, and constantly thinking, there couldn't be a better choice than this film.

9/10 stars. I would have given this 10/10 if it wasn't for the inappropriate casting of the lead character.

I watched it last night and I was laughing so hard. I really love the way Buzz and Dale narrate like it's a cheesy reality show and the cheap phone app "cgi" effects are hilarious. It's exactly what I expected only better. Best $16 spent in awhile. All the shots of Trevor playing beautiful music in front of gross industrial backgrounds...There is a lot to take in with this flick. Tons of visual jokes going on, some of which I didn't catch on until after the segment. Unlike some of the predictions of others I will definitely be watching this again and probably again and then again.

Just watched this movie for free and thank goodness i did! If i had paid money i would have felt severely ripped off. The whole thing panned out as expected and just as i previously suspected it would. Totally unwatchable with ZERO re-watch value. Not even worth uploading to YouTube let alone putting on a DVD. A few little interesting moments but they were so minor and quick that it didn't mean much. 10 minutes in and i was already checking how long was left to endure. I actually have a bit of an headache and feel a bit nauseous after viewing too. Perhaps that was the point? Still, i don't know if i feel this way naturally or whether it was all the shaky, blurring camera work that went on none stop instead. It is amazing to me that Ipecac went to the bother of actually putting this out. A total throwaway release. Whilst i was watching i kept thinking "i wish Ipecac had put out a new Melvins album instead of this crap". I'll never watch it again although i did like how they played the Breaking Bad music when they were in Albuquerque. That was funny. Oddly the more i see of the band in interviews and such, the more i have the feeling i REALLY wouldn't like to be around them as people. Although obviously there was a certain element of "playing up" for the camera going on here i guess.
5 * endorsement for normal people.  :P

It was fun to watch all the way up to midway of the Movie, from there it got repetetative. Trevor Dunn was the one that made me smile most, Buzz was after my taste far to much behind the camera, if he had been more on film, it would be more viewable. Since I`m a fan I have no problems with this movie, but is has no value for those who don`t know the band. I would give i 3 of 6 on the dice.

I wrote a review on this DVD some time ago and this DVD really opened my eyes on even wanting to own music DVDs at all, especially in a day and age where plenty of documented live events are showing up on youtube or bootleg sites for free.

I mean the only bands I can think of that are more documented than the Melvins in terms of this off the top of my head are Fugazi (But they're overrated sometimes!), Ween, Sunn O))) and The Grateful Dead. Mainly bands with rabid, cult-like fanbases.

This Melvins dvd is currently airing on Ipecac's Youtube channel so I watched it for the first time last night. I absolutely loved the tour diaries they did for Spin magazine on that tour, someone on here collected them altogether on here in a PDF file even made a front cover it's fantastic and thanks again to whichever BBS member that did that. I've probably read the whole thing 4-5 times and even printed it out once and gave a copy to my brother don't think he ever read it though.

Anyway the documentary watching it it's just way too short at only about 60 min in length really you only get about a minute in each city if that on some stops and you can't get any sort of feeling for the specific cities which isn't good. As someone who has always dreamed of doing a road trip around the USA I would've liked to have seen the run time extended out to a good 90 mins or so to get a better feel for each place but the documentary seemed more like it was put together for posterity rather than being watchable. A bit too much focus on the crew guys as well no one cares about seeing band's crews.

I started reading the tour diaries for Spin magazine again after that viewing fantastic reading.
