You don't have much luck with Detroit shows, you should probably just come to Grand Rapids  :)

two things... no, three things.

first thing:  GR is farther and a shittier drive.

second thing:  GR is a Thursday.

third thing:  GR shows are full of the hipsterest hipsters that ever hipstered.   there is something about the safety of the environment that I do not like.   give me a good old fashioned over crowded intimidating Detroit show any time.    dude... I was weaned on that shit.     going to Blondies on  8 mile at the ripe old age of 17..  I don't feel at home unless I'm surrounded by scary people and terrified to get from the car to the door.

It's an almost two hour drive (depending on traffic) to Detroit from where I am versus the 45 minute drive it takes me to get to Grand Rapids. I don't really even pay attention to the crowds when I go to shows so I can't really comment on that. I just want to see the Melvins without some dirty butt stinking up my personal space and then leave.

I don't even have to say I'll be in Detroit.   because y'all know I'll be in Detroit.

for those of you considering coming to Motown for a visit.   firstly, please do.    I'll be cordial as a motherfucker.    secondly, please be aware that El Club is about smack dab in the middle of nowhere shitsville neighborhoody Detroit.   it's not within walking distance of any hotel or other drinking establishment that you might want to visit.  it's also not within walking distance of "downtown".   so be prepared to taxi and/or uber to a hotel and/or dinner and/or other bars.     Mexican Town isn't terrible.  but go ahead and Google Earth that shit.   4114 Vernor Highway Detroit.    just so you know what to expect.      now that you know allow me to once again compliment El Club's interior, El Club's sound.  El Club's pizza.  El Club's outdoor patio area with full bar that will be outstanding on an August evening. and El Club's general pleasantness when it isn't so overcrowded you have some dude's stinky sweaty hair about 1.5" off your face.

Can't recall from whose mouth they came but I remember similar "heads ups" 'bout Smalls' Hamtramck neighbourhood's sketchiness ... granted I was only there numerous brief periods for shows; but yeah, never seemed all that sketchy ... the ice cream parlour just up the street was positively quaint and welcoming in a just outta the inner city kinda way, and the scoops were damn good! And that pad whose backyard boardered Smalls parking lot? They had some adorably cute and friendly rottweilers and pits.

Hoping to see you at the El Club Glen

Smalls

that's in a prevalently Iraqi neighborhood.     I've never had a problem there ever but once again its  more than a walk to downtown.

about the only truly "downtown" club is St. Andrews/The Shelter.     everything else is down the road in the cheaper rent districts.

That "Party Store" was tits! I saw Eminem in there one night; at first I thought it might be Kid Rock but the hair was too blonde and too short. I remember drinking at a bar near by too? Didn't seem Iraqi ... more Polish/Eastern Euro? Smalls' is cool, unassuming, and down to earth and Sgt. Peps at Majestic did some good 'za for some post show bites ... but I still dig St. Andy's the best.

PINKUS AND STEVEN on NIGHT GOAT
Personally i hope not! Night Goat is one Melvins song that has been played live far too much. The same goes for The Bit, Boris and more lately It's Shoved. It doesn't seem to matter how much new material they have, Night Goat and The Bit always appear on the setlist tour after tour!

I suspected someone would pipe up with that reply. I never said i hated it, it's a great song unfortunately quite simply played too often by the band. I have no problem with bands performing older songs and even playing them continually gig after gig for years if they only have 3 albums to their name or something. The problem for me with Melvins is they are a band with a gazillion releases. They could play any number of surprising tracks and shake things up for both themselves and the fans but they rarely do. I imagine Buzz chatting to Dale prior to another tour and planning the set and saying "right, okay, older songs.... hmm we'll put Night Goat in there!". Has he forgotten they wrote OTHER great songs in the 90's?

I'd make the argument that it's the closest the band had to a hit (the same could be said for Hooch, Revolve, The Bit, Honey Bucket, etc...) but they're not exactly a hit band. But on the flipside they're not Primus or Ween and have 60+ songs memorized either. The band pumping out albums year after year does do no favors for a good amount of songs so I agree a lot of killer tunes get left on the wayside.

As far as Night Goat I'm sure they know the fans love that tune to bits, diehard or casual.

I've seen MELVINS probably 20 + times now.  I've heard Night Goat about 5.

plus.. it's like Slayer not playing "Reign In Blood" or Cannibal Corpse not playing "Hammer Smashed Face" or Napalm Death not playing "You Suffer But Why?"

without it something is missing.

It’s a valid point is it not?  How can you complain about something you’ve never experienced?  In the at least 15-20 times I’ve seen Night Goat played live I never once thought to myself, “Oh man, not that one again”.  Also, to be fair, before the recent video with Kevin I don’t think it was in any set I’ve seen since 2015.  I was actually starting to miss it....

Oh and Glen, it’s Raining Blood 😉

So for arguments sake, lets say you watch a movie. Can you not mention anything about it - what you liked, what you disliked because you weren't there to experience it? That you are not allowed to have ANY kind of dialogue about it because you weren't present?

Anyone remember the 2nd night of the Residency shows in Brixton when the gigantic black security dudes started swarming the crowd like sharks and flying in and beating the daylights out of all the honkies?
If I remember rightly it all started due to some poor skinny 5 foot honky who was about 16yrs old getting hoisted (against his will) up for a little minor crowd surf.....he was the first to get devoured by the sharks. From there it turned into a frenzy of violence and fish scales flying all over the place.

Gotta love Brixton.

Movies are created with the intention that the viewing audience was not there to see how the actual movie was made (to keep a level of illusion in place).

Watching a youtube video of a live performance is not the same as seeing a live performance.
By definition a pre-recorded video is not a live performance.  Even a live stream of a concert is not the same as a live performance.

You can comment all you like on a video you saw of a live performance, but it is not the same as being there.  It doesn't sound the same, it doesn't look the same, it doesn't smell the same and it certainly doesn't feel the same.

Why bother watching a washed out knock off copy of an original, when you can see the real thing?  But then again I don't watch videos of performances very often for those exact reasons.

I name drop Paul anytime I get the chance. He was ALWAYS my favourite wrestler of all-time. Even when he was a goodie he was a baddie. Plus he piledrived Hogan after pretending to be all palsy with him.....AND.....he beat Hogan in the blue cage on Saturday Night's Main Event that time and then was robbed of the title cause he wasn't a big ol yellow haired goofy goodie.

When Orndorff was kicking ass in the 80s wrestling was cool....when his bicep deflated in the 90s wrestling was LAAAAAAME.....and when Orndorff retired it got even more LAAAAAAAAAAAME!!!!!

So next time anyone says how their favourite wrestler is someone other than Orndorff, The Hammer, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard or Rick Rude.....they need to punch themselves in the face and then give themselves a brain buster from the top rope!!!!!

Yes, kind of an apples to oranges comparison and you pretty much replied the same as I was going to.  I was also going to use another comparison for context.  I almost never watch movies.  Don’t know why, just don’t have the desire (and I’m not good at sitting still for long periods of time).  Yet I constantly find myself saying things like, “Oh great, another stupid (insert famous actor) movie” when in reality I’ve likely never seen one of their movies.  I try to remind myself I have no room to criticize that which I have no experience with.

But they do play Night Goat a whole fuck of a lot! I've seen Melvins somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 times and yeah, I've seen/heard/experienced a shit tonne of the Night Goat. Don't get me wrong I don't mind at all ... that being said if they don't whip it out I'm certainly not gonna cry. Even if it got back shelved for a few years I wouldn't need a tissue. But it's like their "Stairway" or maybe "Kashmir" of course it's gonna be ground into the turf a bit deeper than say Lizzy or something.

On a more general view ... I have found setlists of the last 5-10 years getting kinda static ... with a lot of certain classics becoming almost expected staples and even left turn deep cuts being pretty predictable and coming from a shallower reservoir of options.

I always thought Lizzy should've been Melvins "Smells Like Teen Spirit".....it's not my favourite song although I do love it.....but it's the type of song these Grunge goonz would jizz to and say how it sounds just like Soundgarden humped Pearl Jam and stuff.

But the Nightgoat complaining reminds me of all the Gatherers complaining about The Wait.

It's real shitty that Melvins are playing Toronto on 5/16, then coming down the QEW, crossing the Peace Bridge passing right through Buffalo on down the I-90 through Erie PA & on to Cleveland on the 18th. I seriously want to do the old "light up a steaming pile of dog-shit in a bag trick" on the front steps of The Mohawk, Tralf, 9th Ward, & Iron Works for not making the Melvins happen here in 2018. :merde: Motherfuckers need to step their game up. :disagree:
WNY promoters baffle me sometimes. You get the great surprises now and again like Shellac twice in two consecutive album tours, & Negative Approach 3X in 4 yrs,, but when a show like this is passed over, it's a total WTF. Unless the Melvins are saying no, we want a day off w/ border cross and all, but I doubt it.

Like I said earlier, it's a Friday in Cleveland, I'll take the 1/2 day off work and hit it. Grog Shop is great. Have seen Melvins there in '04, '10, & '12. Fuck You Toronto , I will not drive to your overpopulated city to see a show and deal with the border bullshit & congested traffic. I'll always rather drive that extra hour to Cleveland just to stay in the good ol' US of A and have a more stress-free drive.

I've talked to the staff there, some who are in local bands. They are definitely fans too, and have tried in the past, almost happened over Iron Works '16. Don't know details on why it hasn't happened yet. High On Fire, Mudhoney, Meat Puppets, & OFF! have played there. Melvins sure as fuck should.

For all of western/central NY, actually Rochester is due. They were in Buffalo last Aug '16 @ Iron Works along w/ Syracuse which got consecutive tours from '13 thru '17. Last Roch show was Melvins Lite summer '12, warmup show before that Canadian Lite run. I'd personally like to see Ithaca NY get a Melvins fix. The Haunt is the perfect size venue for Melvins. Saw Bob Mould & Pere Ubu there within the last 5 yrs, epic shows.

You sound about as miffed as I was when I found out Cradle of Filth are bypassing Adelaide on their Australian tour in May. The cunts play four shows straight in the eastern states then have a day off fly right over the top of Adelaide and the next night play their last show in Perth. Absolute fucking bullshit by the promoter.

I still haven't forgiven Metropolis Touring for skipping Adelaide on the Fantomas tour in 2005. The one and only chance I had to see Suspended Animation songs live.

To both you guys, i mentioned movies as an example not because it reinforces an argument against what you are saying but because it's a good example of how we experience something "second hand" and how that is not deemed inferior, or a second hand experience. You are both absolutely correct that a movie is not intended to be thought of outside of what you see on the screen. I think that much is a given.

Do i think a live show is the same as viewing a show on a computer? Again, obviously not. I never said it was. In fact i never even mentioned watching a show that way at all during this exchange. I merely said Night Goat was overplayed. I could have that same opinion even if i just saw a written setlist. It is an opinion sure, but does it devalue my opinion simply because i haven't seen or "experienced" it live? What if hypothetically you saw the band play a show live once whilst someone else saw every single performance of a tour via a video feed in a room next door to the venues? Who would have "experienced" it then? Who would have had the "real" experience. What is real?

So this is why i answered "yes and no" before, because it is the same but different. Not necessarily different as in worse but simply different. I know many will say that you can't compare one experience whatever it is, with another but i say you most definitely can. Too much emphasis is placed upon what people themselves like to the detriment of any other way of interacting with something. Perhaps there are people who prefer to see a streamed show than attend it. I wouldn't class myself quite in that way but i definitely don't see the distance between the two to be so far removed. Ha, even though it actually is rather ironically in other ways.

PINKUS AND STEVEN on NIGHT GOAT
Personally i hope not! Night Goat is one Melvins song that has been played live far too much. The same goes for The Bit, Boris and more lately It's Shoved.

I'm sorry but I can't let this one go, when was the last time they played Boris regularly? I'm pretty sure it was the residency shows in 2011 and 2013. Yeah, that's kind of a while now. They can bring that one back.

You're right, they haven't played that one quite so much. Or at least lately anyway. But it is one of those songs that has been performed many times over the last, let's say 10 years. To the point in which i would prefer them to leave it be for a while anyway.

I don't think it's been in the set during a regular tour since the 2007 big business tour.

Edit: but whatever, I'll take most any "old" tune over stuff like sesame Street meat and onions make the milk taste bad.

It's funny you say that because after posting that I immediately played both and thought "oh, these actually aren't bad at all".

I was on vacation last year and missed them but that looked like one of the better setlists they've done in a while.

Cripes, the Bodymore show is mid-week. I doubt I'll have the energy to make it out there. Unless, of course, the opener has got THE FLAVOR.

Always asking the pressing questions.... i wonder what arrangement the band will take on stage for this tour?

L - R
Buzz Dale Steve Jeff

???
Answering my own question here, i listened to an interview with Steven yesterday somewhere or other where he said Buzz had mentioned to him that he (Buzz) would play in the middle. So with Jeff and Steven on either side. Interesting i thought. From what Steve said though, it seemed that was a decision based around the basses being separated in the mix.

It's safe to say there won't be a last minute Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse show added. This will be the only show I travel outside of WNY for this year. The dual-bass lineup is the only reason I'm driving 3 hrs for this. If it was just Buzz/Dale/Steve again, I'd probably sit this one out and pass on a road trip. Saw them w/ Steve twice in '16(spring Cleveland/fall Buffalo), and last year in Syracuse.

the whole thing was wacked to begin with.  it made zero sense.      JSBX isn't going to play a 45 minute set at 9 pm to a 3/4 full building for a band that they could probably fill twice the venue capacity of.   there was no logic attached to it at all.

I just think that much like the last time I got bent over and well..  you know..  over MELVINS show I was not even offered a refund.  I was just told to hold my ticket.   ok so it's been 3 years.  how's that coming?

and if I had the ability to complain to anybody with any relevance at all I'm guessing I would then be told if I didn't like it I could STFU.      and with that I'll stop. because if I keep going I'll start getting nasty.

I don't have much pity for the Detroit or Columbus fans here, because western/central NY gets no Melvins whatsoever in 2018  :merde::x. That's right, the only Melvins show in NY state this year is in New York City, and that might as well be in another time zone as far as I'm concerned. That said I don't mind driving to Cleveland on a Friday. I schedule Vacation days & long weekends around Melvins road trips when necessary.

Glen: gig is still at the same venue, same price, just no JSBX. Big deal, Spencer will probably be back on his own later in the year for you. Sometimes logistics get in the way and things can't line up between bands after promoters throw it out there prematurely. Weird because I know in Buffalo or Rochester, Melvins would pull in way more people than JSBX. That is a fact, because I've seen the venues Spencer has played around here vs. what Melvins have done. Whatever, Melvins want a Thursday night off between Toronto & Cleveland, yet Mohawk Place has no show booked on 5/17. :?

As for Columbus folks, if you already bought a Melvins tik for 20 something bucks, you will be able to get a refund, as much as that sucks. It's not like you have to hang on to that ticket only to see Melvins moved to an opening slot at a bigger venue. The ticket price w/ Manson headlining has probably now at least doubled, right? I would def sit that one out, having to pay more to see Melvins play a half-hour opening for something as horrible as Manson or the Korn guy.

notice something missing in this latest version?

Bummer. Haven't looked into it but am confused to why it says 8/3 on the side and 8/13 on the bottom. Hopefully that is just a typo. I am trying to scheduel a trip early august to see my family, melvins, and the star wars exhibit at the DIA.

I Stop by the BBS today for absolutely no reason I can think of, and realize I've missed the Toronto Show by a day...I missed a Melvins show...but only by a day...I mean...

 :cobain:

...I missed a Melvins show....I can't believe it....saying it doesn't even feel right....It's not something I ever wish I could say.

I've missed so many shows, but this...this is...

I checked awhile back but I guess those dates got added on after I checked.

I'm going to pretend like I didn't come here and check, or post this.

You know that feeling when you have to go lie down for awhile?

You know that feeling when you have to go lie down for awhile?

I'd suggest the reason you missed the show in the first place was that you were 'lying down for a while'.  Get up, open the curtains and smell the Melvins.

Those Two dates hadn't been posted when I checked...they were added on later I guess...it didn't make sense when I saw West coast dates in Canada but nothing for Montreal or Toronto...well there you go.

First time in 18 years.

I'll see if I can save up and make the Detroit show in August...Maybe flutternuts might take pity on me and let me bribe him for a lift.  :(

I doubt there's a chance in hell.

I’d love to hang with you at the show. I have a lot of friends around but b and I will most likely stay with my sister....Who is a total bitch. Trip won’t last long but all who is going:
There is a Star Wars costume exhibit going on at the DIA. If any visitors are staying in town for more than one day we should arrange a meet up!! It is my favorite art museum in the world! Diego Rivera Hall is worth it alone

Woah-hey!

JUDY, when I think of you, I think of Danzig getting punched in the face over and over.

I have to ask

........Does Glen have any Nut allergies? (the other Glen.)

Glen if you can read this, don't try to ply me with Liquor at the show or try to pick me up, I'm still Married to Schnab.

well..ok, We can make out a little, what Schnab doesn't know won't hurt him and I can keep a secret if you can.

No shit, If..*IF* I make the D-troit show, I will bake a space cake so dank it will melt-banana all yalls balls off....Banana Nut loaf...no...like...ACTUALLY.

And I hereby solemnly swear to apply some extra-strength deodorant before I go in.

Before I forget, Thank you so much Brian and JUDY for the CA-settes, kind words, support, artwork, stickers etc etc...

Jules, On a side note while I'm at it, Thank you for being you, part of me likes to believe we MAY be mans only distant relatives...er I mean we might be related, We'll need DNA samples to compare if you want to go on a talk show with me?

When I was a kid My Grandfather really praised The Mosquito, He must have wanted to fly one as he seemed to know a great deal about their design and build...the way he describes them was they were feather light,  the fasted thing he'd ever seen go by, I'm pretty sure he talked about one he saw go down hard in a field... damn thing made of wood and canvas so when they went up man they absolutely blazed out in a ball of glory. Do you believe in reincarnation?

Wait what? sister?...She's all Wizard of Oz where you're like the good stoner witch and she's like the bad one or something?

All I can think of is that time you said about how she was trying not to puke in Jack Whites mouth, God damn, that was gold....Just hope Glen doesn't puke in MY mouth when I go all Rico Suave on his ass, I'm going to see which one of you can hold the most Liquor, I'm buying everyone a beer and a shot so we can boat race.

You're going to drag me to the nearest tattoo parlor after the show and we're going to be drunk as sailors, hold me down and you can all tattoo something on me...I don't care...surprise me.

You know this is actual %100 serious... far too boring these days.

Melvins and Star wars sounds like more fun than I've had since the time I missed that one melvins show like 3 days ago.

*edit* it looks to be official because the melvins fb page just updated the event to include Jon Spencer. It looks like it's a Jon Spencer solo show though.

a couple things..

first thing: NO WAY Dumpy shows in Detroit.   but if he does and he gets the space cake through customs there is NO WAY I am eating it.  OR asking how he got it over the border.

second thing:  that means that JS is likely playing Detroit too.    or shouldn't I say that out loud?       solo show though?  *squints eyes accusingly*

third thing: so is We Are the Asteroid still in then for the Midwest or not?   I was fairly excited to see Gary Chester making sounds that defy the laws of nature with a Les Paul again.  it's been.... 23 years?        fuck you I'm old.

After watching a few vids, I'm super stoked about the opening three songs of the set. "At a Crawl" sounds great and "Sesame Street Meat" sounds amazing. For some reason I had pegged "The Fool" as the last mammoth nightmare makeout groove from the Melvins, but this sounds remarkable here.

I *Just* bought TWO...Repeat TWO Melvins tickets for this show for the scalper price. Price of 46, Gimme 45.

Total of aprox. $125 CDN....I've done this before, you'd think I'd have learned after all these years. Sadly.

I could have gotten two Tickets for half that price but hesitated initially thinking A-there'd be time to buy em' cheap, and B, I hate dealing with online shit and paypal etc.

Well that's two fuckups in a row now...Just throw money at problems right? what if having no money IS the problem?

Fuck you all, I love this band...I'm going to see them do what they do on the night of Aug. 3.

all I have to do is download and print them off. Get to the D and back across the border without being Jacked, stabbed, shot, burned or robbed, corn-holed or all of those things.

The band makes a living doing it so maybe there's a chance I'll survive a couple days of slogging it. Get from one place to the other die hard on a whim.

Had to buy one ticket for myself, and one for someone who miiiiiiiiiiiight....Just maybe be able to give me a lift to the show.   :o

I thought about taking a bus or something, that would be sketchy as fuck By the time I'm in Windsor.

But is JSBE Really on the bill, this will be fuckin Rad!!!!!!! The Blues is NUMBER ONE!!!

PS. Buy me bonestorm or go to hell!!!

I Briefly Digress on an arbitrary tangent to point out that between the Melvins and Tool, one band has multitudes of fans, yet zero output compared to The other band with a PROLIFIC output yet draws in a marginal Fan base...anyone else notice this phenomenon?  Correct me if I'm mistaken, but Isn't that backwards?

Maybe the Melvins should just quit while they're behind.  :buzz:

If I am doomed to an eternity of seeing Melvins at First Ave I'm going to go bezerker. Where is the vomit emoji?

See you guys in Detroit

Last night's show blew my god damn mind. Highlights = "Sesame Street Meat," "At a Crawl," "The Talking Horse," "Honey Bucket," "Evil New War God," and "Don't Forget to Breathe." The Bowie cover sounded great. "Let It All Be" had been better with Melvins Lite, but I'm glad they play it. "Don't Forget" seemed to be the one place where they really stretched out and played as a foursome (and intro to "Eye Flys," of course). Also Dale conducting the beginning of "The Bit" is awesome.

Great setlist, as I'm sure you all know. The merch table was on point. The sound was good. Of all the Melvins gigs I've seen, this really ranks up there. The Troubadour is my favorite venue to see them in L.A.

The two bass players thing played into it less than I thought. I was standing towards the Pinkus side of the stage and I don't regret that choice. Pinkus may be the Melvinsiest bassist since the Kevin days.

Steven's voice was good, both lead and back-up. I didn't notice much of his finger work since I was opposite.

Buzz and Dale annihilated. But you already knew that. I'm sore. I couldn't sleep afterwards. It's crazy how songs can be on a record for years or decades.  Then I see it played live and I graduate from "appreciating" and just fall head over heels. I have a couple tunes that I'm sort of swimming in for the last few hours.

So looks like it's either I stay on my side of the border at a hotel, or Try to book something on yer side of the wall.

And always Remember...Detroit Rock City!!!

The Venue itself is Mexico Town Just a Click over the Bridge...so It's pretty close to the Border.

would be slick to have a Hotel party if a few people showed.

I've booked my Train ticket, and the Howard Johnson in Windsor for 2 nights.

It was expensive, and a pain in the ass with a stopover in Toronto.

No refund on the Train ticket, not on your life.

I'll be the first person to say this so you can blame me for calling it if it actually goes like this... but all anyone needs now is for something like Dale to wake up on the wrong side of the Bed the morning of the show and stub his toe off the nightstand or something. Show Cancelled...you know?

 :buzz:

That's how this whole thing is hanging in by kids.

Do you know how much this will cost me so far? are you actually curious?

Two melvins Tickets

$122

Train

$211 (Round trip)

Hotel

$135

Not including beer, food (and beer comes before food) T-shirt or something from the Merch table.

plus maybe Change for something I might buy from a store the day of the show if I make it that far and feel cocky enough to take a stroll through Detroit and see whats up.

Either way, for what the trip is worth to visit a derelict shithole industrial Wasteland like Detroit.. I might as well have seen them in LA or something and flown out there and stayed with a cousin for the week and seen the sights, you know?

Such is not my lot in life, There's a big one with my name on it, It's not going to suck itself.

Dumpy is your hotel in Mexican town? There is loads to do in Detroit and the city has really cleaned up. Unfortunately I doubt you’ll have luck w public transportation (the bus system hardly operates) but you should definitely check out cork town and hamtramck

Doubtful I'll have the time looking at the train schedule, it will be really tight as-is.

I'd love to kick around, if I'm lucky there will be enough time for me to get food and a decent coffee, that's about it.

My hotel is situated not near the venue, it's cross the bridge back in Windsor.

Tell me more about hamtramck and cork town, I'm very unenlightened.

I found five bucks TWICE in the last two or three weeks, both separate incidences.

plus...Last week I bought a bag of honey mustard pretzel Bits, on the way out of the store I found a Two dollar coin, or as we here In Canada refer to it as a "Toonie" rendered the 3.70 cents bag into a 1.70 bag.

Karma better keep up the good work.

So I'm in Windsor, The train ride gave me a splitting headache, The Hotel check in was ok, Windsor looks like a generic piece of industrial Faxed-head type of scene from here...the Cab Driver said that a hooker might knock on my door and offer me a blowjob...I asked how much? said he didn't know...the Hells angels have a rally here next week.

The Hotel is grubby, the people don't look too choice either so far...The guy with the attack dog checking in right after me looked like he could bite the hub caps off a buick himself....his Girlfriend looked like she could swing a 9 pound hammer all day.

I'm fucking Tired like you would not believe...I Just feel sick.

The Tim hortons in the parking lot of the Howard Johnson served me a Ham sam...the meat looks like it's been dead for a year...if you guys don't see me tomorrow, I died from food poisoning ok?

That was the only thing they were going to make me at 2 AM...plus the wi-fi didn't work worth a fuck in my hotel room...so here I am at Tim Hortons...on a 12 year old laptop that doesn't start up unless you undo the bolt holding the screen together.

I heard he died in a car crash while he was getting a blowjob from a hooker.

I should have packed a Lunch.

PS....Next time the Melvins play Toronto let me know guys...this IS a message board isn't it?  :?

Great to see grim Jim and his wife as always, and a super treat to meet the banana cream that holds the board together Glen who is as handsome in person as he is in the magazines, and Dumster J who went through some trials and tribulations to get to the show and back but still was having a blast, a true Canadian if I’ve ever met one!!

addendum:

I have spun the John Spencer 12" tour edition on my Turn table with a pair of cans. Every cut is slutty. What an incredible pressing. it's Just so damn rad, can't say enough positive and good things about it. It makes me want to move.

I'm really feelin' it. Call me a romantic fool but I've instantly fallen in love with this record at first sight and didn't wind up to regret it.

Got an eyeball of the blues singer load out a trash can with the band crew...couldn't help noticing a dirty old vintage Ludwig snare with completely blown out resonator skin and knew right away this was going to be something extra special. I saw em' heave a Box of hot wax down off onto the sidewalk, straight from the pressing plant right to your punk ass ear holes wheel and deal.

soon as I saw the plain white matte stock cover with a sexy chick wearing a cape and superhero mask groovin' a rainbow turntable it had to be mine.  If you get a chance to catch them play do not- Repeat- DO NOT pass it up. This album is NOT a wall hanger, nor is it something I would ever trade or flip... it's a total player. When I pass this record onto my kids it's going to be so worn out and the sound floor is going to be crackling like a campfire. You could blast this thing out back to back all day and night.

It's going to be transferred to Reel to reel, cassette and especially 8-track cartridge.

You will truly regret not picking up a copy as they are limited items.  I rate this as an EXCEPTIONAL album, it's fantastic it's Pure hype. The lyrics are right on, I mean RIGHT ON...every single tune on there is sassy as fuck. I'm so feelin' this, it's the shit!!! Simply put, you could not make a record this good without decades of hard work and determination, it's a perfect storm of kiss my ass bitch.  8)

Straight up, I love this record, it's an incredible performance. Chalk scores of True blues grooves dudes and stripped down chopped up Vamping soul on this thing, I'm sure they are all proud of it, they should be very happy with it. I know I am. Sounds like A lot of hard work went into recording this, no fucking around.

Briefly Examining the Vinyl itself before dropping it down on the platter it's so fuzzed out you can literally see how trashy it's going to sound Just by the quality of the grooves, it's shredded.

It's like a hot mess picked me up at the bar, takes me home to get sweaty, begs me to put it in, and doesn't want it slow and easy so you bring it on home like there's no tomorrow baby. ( the B side still wants you from behind with a bad hangover the next day, even though you know you're only still last in line)

Why you lookin' at me like that, what's wrong!!! WHATS WRONG!!!  8)

Drop that shit like some bad backdoor love, this one really puts out all the way.

The drop from the first to last note Just screamed "AGAIN AGAIN!!!" It's so mad Fuzzed out...It's so analog, I don't know how they got those tones but they sound like they use busted old tone blender, or Circuit bent pedals, bit crushingly grimy. Can't name that sound, swear it comes from cheap guitar pickups from the late 50's or mid 1960's with early modified Fuzz pedals of some kind. Everything in the mix is seated perfectly, the pressing is superb.

Solid Gold hits for real.

PPS.

During the Melvins set-

exactly Who..I ask you...WHO in the blue fuck yells out "HONEY BUCKET" about 3 or 4 songs AFTER they played Honey bucket? Was that like some kind of post-ironic hipster sarcasm or something?  :?

I hear the Stroh's Beer is good in Detroit.  Just something I heard once.

If you like drinking watered down horse piss they are pretty crisp and refreshing....I bought a six pack of those before the show at the corner store.

I didn't know they could legally call that stuff beer, I could have drank a whole case of those and still walked a straight line while singing the alphabet backwards.

Have you ever tried Canadian beer before? it's actual beer.  :o

Dude, you should send this to Jon Spencer, I doubt any other review could live up to this awesomeness, he should be plastering this all over the web

I have spun the John Spencer 12" tour edition on my Turn table with a pair of cans.

Did the 12" come out now? If yes, could you please be so kind to provide the pic of the cover: Thanks!

So far I've seen two different covers, one with black ink (the current tour version) and one with .. orange ink? I'm not sure about that one.

On a side note, The only thing I bought from Walsby was the City Trends LP.

I didn't know what I wanted as usual Brian recommended this to me, said it was really good...Saving it special to listen to.

He's got Drum credits in the liner sleeve.

NO doubt it's going to blow me away.

Prove you bought this and tell me what the inner etching on the A and B sides read.  :P

After your review, I don't think there is any chance I'd do otherwise!!

There is also a Jon Spencer Hits Patch for your Jacket!!! Why I only bought *one* was a stupid stupid move.  #-o

It's cool, I already put it on this black leather 1980's Cafe Racer Jacket from a thrift store, it looks like Black Sabbath Master of Reality cover kinda, I want to know where that Font style was inspired from...it's like something borrowed out of a hippies sketch book.

There's a shop in town that sells a few artsy hip things, one of the button pins I bought when I got home was a Frank Kozik pin...it was Yellow with a banana smoking a cigarette. It's next to the patch to remind me of the time I met this sexy stud named Glen at the Detroit show. It really ties the whole thing together.  :P

I'll try and get a photo tomorrow, I Just wrote a review of the show in the Melvins show Review section so I'm too tired.

My tinnitus is really bad tonight and there's a raging thunder storm going on right now outside.

I thought the setlist for this tour was absolutely incredible. That's saying a lot since I loved last year's as well.
Totally taking the best advantage of the extra low end.

Great shows. Hung out with our dudes for two of them and considered a third.
Steve working the upper register while Pinkus grinds in the lower had a neat almost Bear Claw vibe now and again.
Don't Forget to Breathe is definitely one of my favorite recent era Melvins songs.

Jon Spencer and the HITmakers (that's the name of the band) were an awesome surprise as well.
I was never a huge Pussy Galore fan, but hearing a couple of those tunes with Bob Bert (!) on drums was an excellent treat. The fella on keyboard is Sam Coomes of Quasi and M. Sord the other drummer was a badass as well.

I wish I would have bought the vinyl, but the beer at the Chicago venue was insanely expensive. A sad story, really.

Walsby Crushes on the City Trends LP, It's a 45 RPM 12"

DON'T SKIMP OUT YOU CHEAPSKATES!  PICK ONE UP!!! ASK FOR IT BY NAME!!!

DAVIDIANS! CITY TRENDS!!!

These guys know. This shit is punk as fuck. Sounds like they had a blast working on these tunes.

As for the message behind the music, I'm not certain,I really don't know what's what... but I think maybe...It's almost like a "fuck you" to trendy wannabe bullshit, I want to say I *get it* but I'm so out of touch with what I'm hearing on this, It's music for music lovers. I'll never be able to keep up, I'm really happy I picked this up, feels like I own a part of something real, and legit.

Walsby, wayyy too modest. Don't let him fool ya..he's a Champion Drummer, I don't think I could ever hold a pair of sticks next to him, he owns the bragging rights over a lot of dead beat drummers, His drums are really showcased in the mix, totally dry and heavy the way good drums should sound.  8)

I can't really review this thing yet. I'm still enjoying it.  It's so complex and intricate.

It's Ace.

It's a lot more oldschool than I was initially expecting despite holding my Judgement in reserve, and Just keeping this one as something you need to discover for yourselves. honestly It's real Good shit.

The guitar reminds me of Cool and melodic Jesus Lizard meets like I wanna say, almost a Germs-Black flag sounding refrain.  Can't say you'll have your fill of this by the time Side B is over and Done.

full on assault like oldschool Melvins bombastic sounding with a lot of really heavy vocals.

..I'm going to spin it right now in fact..that's a pretty good idea. *Yeah, this has a pinch of west-coast sounding influence I'd swear*

Later haters.

I don't know how Brian can slay a kit like that..Beastly friggin' drumming dude.  8) 8) 8)

He's got those intricate Choppy little hi-hat Crover-esque moves down pat and owns that shit like no ones Big-business with some down pat oldschool hardcore style going on.

Check it out.

His older band Shiny Beast is tight as hell too, I'd been asking him about hearing some of his stuff, he said I'd have to find that shit on Ebay...someone Youtubbed it.

I was so damn impressed It was like discovering an old Melvins Album for the first time or something, it felt so familiar yet fresh and unique...I really enjoyed it.

(Pretty sure Shiny Beast is a Captain beefheart Reference)
