Following the release of their new album,  Pinkus Abortion Technician, the Melvins are currently on a 10-week tour across America. To celebrate going on the road, Dale Crover put together a playlist of the music that the band plays in a venue before they go on stage.

* * *

Black Mountain, "Florian Saucer Attack"
Cool song from their last album. This one has a slight 'new wave' vibe to it. Like the Cars or Blondie playing space rock.

Cheap Trick, "California Man"
Nice cover of a song originally done by the Move. Neither band is from California

Los Lobos, "Viking"
Los Lobos is a great band with lots of good records out. This one is from the album This Time. The drum and guitar sounds on this song are crushing!

Lemon Twigs, "Foolin' Around"
The newest single from the Brothers Twig. This catchy little earworm has been slithering in our heads for days. Sounds like Queen meets the Raspberries

Muddy Waters, "Mannish Boy"
Rumor has it Muddy couldn't get a record deal in the '70s. Johnny Winter gives him a deal and together make one of Muddy's best records ever! If this song doesn't get you in the mood...

Sleaford Mods, "Messy Anywhere"
The Mods get slightly more melodic on this tune about bad party choices.

Randy Newman, "Gone Dead Train"
This is from the Performance movie soundtrack. The film starring Mick Jagger and Anita Pallenberg. Probably Randy's most rocking tune. Note, that's Ry Cooder on slide guitar.

Ty Segall, "The Main Pretender"
A dirty bass line and some sleazy saxophone. Sometimes that's all you need.

Rolling Stones, "Plundered My Soul"
This is from the deluxe version of Exile on Main Street. Great song! Can't believe they sat on it for so long.

Scorpions, "The Sails of Charon"
Uli Jon Roth-era Scorpions. This is some Proto Metal right here. Great riffs and leads!

Yeah, on Los Lobos! Busted out that CD and playing now. This Time & Colossal Head are two of my fave LL albums. They're both from around the time of those two Latin Playboys albums, so they all go good together.

I'm long overdue to get that deluxe CD of Stones - Exile, for the extra material, plus I don't have that one on CD. Have it on a cassette from the '90s that still plays well, and an original vinyl that sounds great.

Melvins is touring USA all the way until august. Will it be some gigs in Europe fall/winter 2018?

They have no dates scheduled at all in June and almost the first two weeks of July.  I figured that would be Euro time but I'd think they would have announced dates by now

2nd on Los Lobos. Been a favorite of mine since Kiko in 93. Viking is my favorite on This Time, which is more of a soul record than rock for the most part. When Viking came on at the end of an episode in season 2 of the Sopranos I lost my shit.
