Title: T-Shirts Round 2
Post by: glen on May 15, 2007, 05:41:44 PM
I've gotten a few PM's about people looking for the SNIVLEM t-shirts. unfortunatey I only have XXL's left.
so if you're morbidly obese you're in luck.

OR!!

if I can gather a couple more people I'll order another batch.  maybe even in different colors,  single color instead of the shadowing, who knows?

so instead of me responding to the individual PM's would anyone who wants a shirt please say "I" so I can get a head count?

thank you kindly.

your pal,
glen

I might be interested, although I'd have to see a design or a maybe picture of one of the old batch before I could give you a "definitely."

XXL is more Pleasingly Plump.

I'll consider that an "I".

butthole...  just buy a damn shirt!     for as much as you've been involved in the creation, sale and critique of these shirts I am struggling to grasp why you have NEVER shelled out the coin to buy one.

come on,  I'm sure mom and pop will float you the few dollars it takes to put one of these on your back.

reprint. ill buy another one. considering i wear it so much its been a pretty good investment. thanks for picking the unflattering pic of the bunch btw. my armpits are glowing because thats what llbean puts on their backpacks so yo ass dont get run over by the bus! i dont know what dimensions people are on the board, but maybe more small printings are a good idea? i dont know. someone redesign it. we're all really talented bastards on here, RGT aside. I considered a new design as well but the problem there is the cost goes up. I have to pay the printer a set-up fee, etc.
I can change colors with no major hang-ups but redesigning the shirt will jack the price for everyone.

keep 'em coming.

the more "I"s I get the cheaper the shirts for everyone.

Hey Glen,

How much do these cost? I wouldn't mind getting an black XL.
Title: Re: T-Shirts Round 2
Post by: glen on May 16, 2007, 01:01:15 PM
for those of you newer-comers...   the shirt cost cannot be set until I get an order together.
this MUST be a non-profit venture so I have to calculate the shirt cost based on your location, etc.

the last round went for, off the top of my head:

US/Canada:  $20
Europe, etc: $22
Australia: $25

that price includes shipping.  I would guess the next round will be very similar in cost.

I'll give it a couple more days to let everyone get their "I"s in.   then I'll call the printer and get a more solid idea.
keep the "I"s coming in and in the meantime feel free to offer your color variations.   remember... we can use ANY color shirt and ANY color ink, as long as we don't get carried away with fifteen different choices.   we'll keep it to 2 different color shirts (black is normally one option) and 2 variations of ink colors.  I kinda like sweet's suggestion of pink on black.
but I'd like to lose the shadow effect.  maybe go with one color for the fleazy rider and another for the lettering.

Cool.

Long as it is not a pink design, I'm in.

I'm up for another color. I still have the original file around here somewhere, so if we could get up a vote with colors, I'll make some sample images. We can lose the shadow, of course, it didn't come out just as it was supposed to because its hard to pick the right colors. But yeah, how about a color vote first?

I do have too many black shirts though, so we should probably have one black version and one colored version? Just a thought. Or was this a pain in the ass, glen? :P

Agreed. But the silver ink might cost more (just guessing here). I'd be willing to pay a little extra though if that went ahead.

how about this then?

black shirt with silver lettering and maybe a different color fleazy rider?   no shadow, of course.

and then a...   white shirt?  with...     help me out with the ink on the white shirt.

and thanks for all the "I"s.   the more we get the better this will work.  keep 'em coming while we figure the color issue out.

Id buy another one for myself in a different color, and in my circle(jerk) of friends, fleazy rider is the bees knees, so i can almost guarantee 4-6 shirts coming from me and basseys neck of the woods.

Title: Re: T-Shirts Round 2
Post by: glen on May 17, 2007, 07:26:53 AM
Hey glen how about the old "kiss" style melvins logo on the shirt?

all great ideas... IN THEORY.   but not so good ideas in application.   firstly,  don't know as I'd want to steal an already existing design.   secondly,  like I said,  a new design is doubtful to fly.   it would make the shirts more expensive,  let me explain why:

I have to pay the printer a one-time set-up fee which is relatively steep.  the first shirt order was over 70 shirts so I was able to spread that cost out over all those shirts.   this batch will be more like about 20 or 30 shirts, so I have LESS shirts to spread that cost onto.     therefore, by simple mathematics, the shirts will be more expensive.    if I just make more of the original design I have already paid that set-up fee.

if the consensus is we want a new design regardless of cost than so be it.   but I for one am not up for going through the brutal process of submitting, voting upon, arguing about, voting again, complaining about and finally settling on a new design.  anyone who was around during the first batch can vouch for what a nightmare that was.

but I can change the color,  shirt and ink, for no additional charge.  so at least we are getting some variation from the first design and possibly even improving upon it.

as much as I hate to say this....    once we get a couple more suggestions for colors I'll post a poll to get a final choice.
but please try to be specific in your suggestion.   take a look at the pics posted and tell me what exactly you think should be done.    remember,  the options are ANY color shirt and ANY two color combination.    don't have to have two different color shirt options but someone always says black so maybe its best to say a black shirt and a _____ shirt.  just trying to please as many people as possible.

I'll look up my printer today and try to get the exact options.

if there is to be a new design (and i doubt there will be), i'd vote to have the lettering backwards.  so that it reads "melvins" in a mirror.  i always wished the letters would be backwards.  so much more annoying that way.
and yea, the shadow - hard to make out the difficult-yet-awesome- design.

as far as colors, i'd vote if there was a ridiculous poll.  anything to destroy the black and silver idea.  the melvins shirts available on ipecac are silver on black and they are pretty boring.  well, even if they're not boring, that color combination already exists for melvins shirts.  the best part of the last batch was that the blue and pink was totally surprising - especially for a band t-shirt

The design is good Grimes, don't feel blue.

But the old design is going to be re-used, it's just that simple.

Sounds like the black and green shadow will be a collectors item.

It worked now. And yeah that is really cool Dr.!

apologies.  I've put this new venture on the back burner for about a week.  we'll get back at it late this week or next.

I'm dealing with what is known as a "full plate" right now.   but none to worry,  this is still on my list.

That's fine by me, Glen, but I have been thinking about colors and how about a purple shirt with a yellow graphic and/or a red shirt with a yellow graphic? Yellow shirts with red or purple graphics would also be cool.

Here where I work we printed shirts for a local supermarket promotion. There were quite a few
3XL, 4Xl, &5XL. But one person ordered an 8XL, it had to be specially made and it was HUGE.
The print looked like a damn postage stamp on it

I need 3XL..sometimes I can get away with 2XL if the shirt is generous with that size....but 3XLT to be safe.

For those large folks that didn't get in on the last round of shirts, keep in mind that these shirts run larger than usual.  I got an XL, and it fits me like a freaking tent... I'm definitely going a size smaller this time.

And on that note, consider this my "I," so long as the colors don't suck.

Yeah, they were pretty large sizes. I'm gonna go a size smaller this time too. Not that i have a problem with my other one or anything, i've just shrunk a fair bit since then but it still kind of fits.

Back aches are the worst!  If you haven't yet, you might look into a custom bra.  Sometimes it can make a big difference.
Some people might suggest a breast reduction, although I don't know if it's necessary.

I've never looked into custom made bra's, but I've heard that they can be expensive.

Would it be at all possible to remove the shadow? From what I've seen the current design is pretty indistinct. Is that an issue with the source image or was it added by the printing company?

I would be keen for a simple black-on-white design, a la:

Maybe inverted white-on-black would be appropriate. It is Snivlem.

Yes.  Once the (number of quotes)^3 surpasses the critical point (aka the rubicon), the gravity of your posts sucks everything within distance into itself.

there.  thats better.

okay then...

I've gotten a couple of PM's regarding the T-shirts round 2.   let me please explain the status on this subject.
before I begin let me also say that ALL whining, crying, "poor me", and "its not fair!" is intended.

the last couple months have been slightly hectic as far as my free time away from work and family responsibilities. that is a fancy way of saying I been too damn busy to work on this.    summer time happens to be busy time in my line of work, not to mention a new baby days away.  and THEN in the last few weeks I had what some might call a catastrophe in the family department.  a couple of you are aware of this privately.  I'd rather not go into the details of it on the board but I will loosely explain that a certain member of my immediate family was involved in a serious incident that caused severe bodily injury.   this person is still and will continue to be under the care of a hospital.   the injuries suffered have caused permanant damage that will take extended time to cope with.   point is I just had my already overly busy life sent into a complete tailspin.      this situation has been a struggle for my wife and I who are on the verge of (as mentioned mafuggin countless times) having our first child together.

so this is my explanation for why I have "dropped the ball" so-to-speak on the t-shirts round 2.  I still have every intention of getting back on task with this though.   so please try to have some patience with me and accept my apology for slacking to this point.    let me get my baby out and settled, my other family situation settled down a bit, and my work situation back on track and I will get back to this.     maybe a month?   I should be able to coordinate all of this again in late summer.

again, sorry for going "vcavallo" on you guys with this.  but I haven't forgotten.   I will at some point in the near future start posting at this thread regarding the t-shirts round 2 to get this back on track.

hang in there.   y'all know I always see shit through.

having issues and responsibilities involving family is never "slacking". anyone who sees otherwise can GO FUCK THEMSELVES AND THEIR MOTHERS.  take care of your business, glen, and we'll add you and your family to our prayers.

agreed.  I say we get rid of the shadow and do 2 different colors from the pic to the SNIVLEM.

how about a white shirt and a...   another black shirt with different colors?

Colors = I'm in
Black/White = I'm out

We could get a new design, or keep the one we have. It doesn't really matter to me as long as its a funny non skull/tribal pattern one. It shouldn't get too expensive, though. How about some polls, just like last time!?

Seems like a lot of people want black shirts, so its only fair to let one of them be like Chuck Berry. However, I have too many black shirts, and white shirts usually look really cheap/yellowish/stained/faded design, so the other one should be a color!

I'll line 'em all up and let democracy rule.  so if you like poop brown with mustard yellow ink or burnt sienna with a nice chartreuse ink then shout it out and vote.     I'm keeping track and I'll let everyone's options get a fair shake. even the ridiculous ones.

also,  I think I'll look at some different shirt cuts.  personally I thought the neck was a little tight on the last batch.  maybe I went a little too heavy in the quality department.

so it looks like maybe I'll drag bUTTHOLEmAN into this one.  between the two of us maybe, juuuuuust maybe, we'll have shirts by 08.
I'm down if you would like the help.  Lemme know

Okay, here's a preview of the possible snivlem shirt pt. 2:

As of now this will be a back print, with text on the front of the shirt and text on one sleeve.  Alternative apparel shirt; I'll have possible colours shortly.  I might make it a front print, will be decided soon.  Minimum order will be 20; assuming 20 want a shirt this shouldn't be a problem.  Turnaround after I set it up with the printers will be at the most two weeks, and I'll ship out immediately, so add another week after I give the word.  Prices will be commensurate to what Glen-o was charging; I'll post those as well very soon.  pm me if you're interested in a shirt.  This is a preliminary picture; more details coming.
cheers

Excellent; 9 pms down, 11 to go.

I'm planning Alternative Apparel 05 shirts for the unisex, and Alternative Apparel 393 for the women.  (p.s. they also print underwear and bags and hoodies )  At least two different colour shirts; one will be black.  I've got to decide on the other colour shirt, and the ink colours.   Looking towards a metallic silver for the black shirts; that might change though.

For the protection of myself, and others, the bUTTHOLES shall remain nameless.  But, there was this dude I knew who used to go by the name Mumu, but also used to be known as Kurdt, or Kurdtluvur, or Luvurman to some.  He just wasn't as fascinating as this bUTTHOLE is now.  I hope to one day meet this man, ahem, bUTTHOLE we speak of.   For he is truly an enigma.

Paypal is preferred, but cash will also work.  Shipping + shirt should be around $20 shipped in the u.s.; I'll start accepting the money as soon as I have the shirts in hand.  I think alt. apparel shirts retail around $20, so it should be a reasonable price.  Any questions, feel free to pm me!

This is to give you all a rough idea of the finished shirt.  The front shirt design should be finished by tomorrow.  These aren't the colours; one choice will be (most likely) silver ink on a black shirt.  There will be at least two choices.

Looks good bUTTmANG.

If the tee is a well made shirt...with a nice thick collar. (I'm anal when it comes to cheap collars..and poorly made shirts, as I'm sure most of you are too)

ummm..anyway, if this tee is a nice quality shirt, put me down for 2 more. (so 3 total, same size)

I've heard really good things about Alternative Apparel shirts; I'll do some more checking on quality.  Hanes beefy t's are available as well; 100 percent cotton.

Here's a close up of the front of the shirt as well as the left  sleeve (see the little black square at the bottom); the 'block-iness' to the text will be gone by printing time.

As of now, Colours will be:  Silver ink with Black shirt, or Silver ink with Pink shirt.
Women can choose either the Gildan shirts, or the Alternative Apparel Shirts.

There's two types of silver ink..maybe three..I'll post them when I get them in the mail, and the mob shall determine it's course.  :D

Interested parties, pm me with your size preference and colour preference (black shirt with silver ink, or pink shirt with silver ink).  Gildan is a unisex shirt, but if you want an alternative apparel girls shirt, pm me that as well.  Gildans go up to XXXL, and if you need chest measurements, I can get you that as well.

Ok!  The sizes I previously mentioned were in inches, the measurement you'd get if you wrapped a tape measure around your chest under your armpits.  Gildan has fairly standard sizes.  Here's pictures of a Gildan shirt, and the ink samples.  Please pm me with the ink you prefer, majority rules.  Ink sample 2 feels 'bumpier/sandier.'

Sure thing Vcav, pm me with the size you want, and I'll add you to the list.  As soon as I get 20 vouches, I'll order them, and when I get the shirts in hand, I'll start taking orders.

The sparkly ink sparkles, but on the downside, it's thick and hard to screen, with the occasional spots showing through.

The other ink is 'flatter,' and easier to screen, meaning there's better coverage.  In the following picture, you can see the black spots of the shirt showing through ink 3(the ink feels like sandpaper).  Towards the bottom of the picture you can see
the partial square of ink 2, it's shiny in a different way.

I haven't contributed much to this thread and to be honest, in the beginning I wasn't too crazy about the idea of having another t-shirt. I could see the point of having a reprint for the people who missed out on the first round, but I thought another themelvins.net shirt was a bit unnecessary - how can I decide what t-shirt to wear when I'm browsing the board. But, I must say you did an outstanding job, B-Man, and a pm (or two) can be expected soon. I have to look up what information you require but I assume you simply need a color, size and an address.

Would an envelope with colored balloons cover the costs? ;)

My broher-in-law wears pink for the reason you stated, Sweet. So gay.

Shirts are $20 ppd. in the U.s., including 'special limited packaging woo',  slightly more outside of the U.s., will make it as reasonable as possible.  2 more pms until 'go' time!!!!

Gildan and Alt.App. shirts

hey butt, any reason for specifically putting the wasp graphic on the back of the shirts??
An aesthetic choice.
Shirts with a large graphic on the front remind me of the costumes you used to buy at the supermarket for halloween - for example, a batman costume would come with a plastic mask, and a plastic jumpsuit with a large picture of batman's face on the chest.  Obviously, the real batman never wore a shirt with his big face on front..at least to my knowledge.

rationale accepted!!   Rationale: ( a word meaning personal choice, tastes)
ergo;
You can wear these with a suit jacket to a meeting or presentation,
and (bar taking off the jacket) no one will be the wiser that you are
among the Melvinae*   * a variant of the words melvin and minutae, for the literary types like ManWith, glen, etc.

OKAY!  Vouches have been met, minimum order has been met, it is TIME TO ORDER!  :D

I will place the order approximately four days from now, on OCTOBER 31, WEDNESDAY, to give a few more days for anyone else who possibly might want one, as it's highly unlikely these will be printed again.  Turnaround, I've been told, is around two weeks, so mid November shirts should be received and in the mail.  When I receive them, I'll ask for payment at that time.

Any questions, pm me.

CHEERS!

For people needing to pay, you can either use paypal or check/money order, #20 in the U.S.

I expect people to receive these this week, for the most part!

I'm going to sticky this for a week or so for the people with full boxes/etc.; so they realize their
shirts are in and they can send in payment.

Ha, I'm glad Grim posted some of the pictures.  The original code was intended to be split into 12 pieces with a / b / c / d / etc.  denoting the order.   That was cut down to 4 after thinking about it (A , B , C , and D).  The black ink was going to be liner notes from one of the albums, but that was only put on some of the pictures.

He knows.  I worked with him for about 3 years.  I couldn't NOT talk about Buzz with him.  All he would ever say is, " I don't know why those boys didn't like me".
Thats kind of sad.

I bet the "boys" had a good reason. I had similar bosses around the same time at Stouffer's carpet and appliance  in Aberdeen. The assholes thought they could tell you to do anything while calling you all kinds of fucking names at the same time. Fuckers. I still laugh at the pricks when I see them.  :D

When I worked there, Pete wasn't a manger.  He was when Buzz worked there.  I heard he was much harder to work with when he was a boss.  Personally, I never had a problem with him.  In an email, many years ago, Buzz asnwered some q's of mine, and at the end, told me to tell pete "to go suck the piss out of a dead donkeys dick"

the day I quit, I told him about that.  He hasn't even looked at me since when I see him in town. (he retired years ago)

WOW I got seriously hammered last night at a holiday party. The cool thing is (on topic) is that I was wearing the new SNIVLEM shirt. My friends about totally shit their pants over it, and I felt guilty for not buying them a shirt. They always go to the MELVINS shows with me and I let them down...............(so I feel). SHITE!!!! Any chance for a second pressing of these?? I am such a selfish asshole.  :(
