Not sure about that, but rumor has it that HDYF supposedly stands for How Do You Feel.

I bet if someone sends Timo Ellis an Email he will tell us about the making of HDYF. He is a big Melvins fan:

I have no luck with stuff like this.

IMO is Sean Lennon's and Timo's old band. Means "now" not the dreaded acronym.

Here's my message to Timo:

Hey Timo,

Could you give me any information on IMO and specifically the recording of HDYF with the Melvins?

Who had the creative ideas for the song? How did you like working with Buzz, Dale and Mark D?

The acronym has also been a topic of discussion. Is it How Do You Feel?

Any information will be greatly appreciated and placed on themelvins.net.

Thank you,

GrimReaper

He'll think i'm a geek and not respond.

"We were really surprised when we got a call from Sean," Buzz recalls. "He said, 'I'm a big fan of your band, and my morn likes your music too.' I'm like 'Oh, Jesus.'" Lennon invited the Melvins to play the L.A. date of IMA, his and Ono's group. Buzz and Dale eagerly accepted, joining IMA for two songs at the close of their sold-out Roxy show. They subsequently recorded one of those tunes with IMA, the Melvinesque "How Do You Feel." For Buzz, such acknowledgment is a vindication. "I'm glad I stuck to my guns, though I wish my bank account showed it. I'm not working at a regular job, but I'm not putting a down payment on that little dream house either. I can't really put a price tag on things like the IMA show. I'm just really happy that these things happen."

just found also a sean lennon interview:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/entertainment/2003433828_lennon19.html

Q: We do have some pretty good bands here.

A: The Melvins are one of my all-time favorite bands.

(Note: Technically, the Melvins are from the Aberdeen area, but close enough.)

Q: Really? They don't seem like your kind of music.

A: (sounding offended) I gigged with them. I recorded with them.

Here's the response I got from Timo:

Hey James,

timo here, hope yer well!! Lets see..(that was a while ago..!!) Our band was actually called "IMA" (not "IMO") ...IMA means "now" in japanese...I'm pretty sure the song was something that sean and I came up with...we demoed an eary version of it in NYC sometime prior to that, but frankly it was a pretty "melvins-esque" feeling/ homage-ish song to begin with...! Ill check with sean bout this just to be sure..As far as the vocals/ lyric goes, you'd have to ask Yoko..! Working with the melvins' guys was great, theyre just super friendly/ cool, as was mario c..!  I went to Evergreen from 89-93 so I got into them when i was there, personally I was really psyched to play with them, for sure, we all were..! Anyway, hopefully this helps..! you can try to contact Yoko thru MySpace and Facebook, I'm pretty sure she, or someone that she works with checks those accts etc.. (can u possibly send me an MP3 of HDYF? I obviously wont send/ copy it for anyone...!) Also If you would send me a mailing address for y'all, I'd like to send you some shit from my band The Netherlands, along with another project I've been workin on, tentatively titled "Goatard" (!)  take it easy, timo

Hi:

Just found this, if anyone is intersted:

"There was a time when I was close to a certain Grunge band. The history books will tell you they basically created Grunge.. and I wouldn't argue with that. For one moment in time the band also caught the attention of Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon. This resulted in the guitarist and drummer recording a couple of songs with John Lennon's loved ones on Yoko's 'Rising' album. When Yoko's 1996 'Rising' Tour hit California they were invited to join her onstage in L.A. and S.F..

Prior to the show at the Great American Music Hall in S.F., I kept noticing people looking at me... Then it hit me. The Round Eyes thought I was Sean (Asian, long hair, roundish glasses). We all look alike, ya know.. Or maybe they thought I was Yo-Yo Ma.

Anyway, as an intro tape, Slayer's 'Angel Of Death' blared out of the PA prior to the band walking onstage. I was told that was Sean's touch. Nice. Once onstage, Yoko screamed and did her thing. Even at her age she was still doing what she wanted to do.. She didn't pander to her past or to her dead husband's legacy. I thought the performance was cool.

Afterwards we were ushered backstage. The drummer of the previously mentioned Grunge band introduced me to Sean. He had a drink sitting next to him on a table and as he reached to shake my hand he knocked it over. Looking down at the mess he said "Hmmm, I guess I should take that as a warning.." before shaking my hand and greeting me.

A couple of minutes later Yoko appeared. I'm sorry to tell Beatles Geeks that the room was not suddenly filled with the smell of brimstone and smoke. I was introduced to her and she shook my hand and said how nice it was to meet me. I shook the hand of the woman who broke up The Beatles... and lived! I'm sorry to tell Beatles Geeks that I did not have an image of The Eye of Sauron sear into my brain when I touched her flesh. On the contrary, I was completely gobsmacked that Yoko was the same size as my Grandma.

After a couple of other introductions to backstage visitors, the tour manager announced they were leaving. So without further ado we walked out the backstage door...with Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon. A once-in-a-lifetime surreal moment for sure. In the alley behind the club there were a few Beatles Geeks hanging out with stuff they wanted autographed. As Yoko and Sean appeared they shouted their names. Twas the closest thing to authentic Beatles Mania I'll probably ever experience.

Christ, you know it ain
