Melvins Discussion / Re: Ozma/Bullhead/Eggnog/Lice-All Vinyl Reissues
« on: January 18, 2015, 01:22:53 PM »
Just guessing here. Tom, Boner guy, has probably been waiting for this ship to come in for two plus decades. He would want to press as many as possible.

That was kinda my thoughts as well...someone else in this thread mentioned that Boner is starting to become active again so the $$$ that these reissues will bring in will go a long ways towards supporting that.

So can anyone who has their grubby hands on these comment on the "remastering"? Did they just make everything louder?

De-lurking to ask a dumb question: are these Boner reissues limited at all? Done some searching but haven't found anything so I figured this would be the best place to ask. It doesn't look like it...but you never know with this band.

My local record shop is trying to get them in for me but hasn't confirmed yet...getting a bit antsy and afraid I'll miss out.

It must be terribly frustrating for Dale and Buzz for like 30 years always being mentioned alongside Nirvana. I never understood that bullshit.

Ya, having your lesser-known band constantly associated with the sacred cow of 90s rock must really be a bummer...

Haven't listened to the whole album yet but did hear a couple tracks. Weird to say but I'm not sure i'm really diggin the molk sound. I hope there's more to the album than just acoustic + voice. Maybe something from that new synth I saw in a different thread a while back...?

Melvins Discussion / Re: Stag Vinyl Bootleg

I've wondered for years if those bootlegs of Tool's Aenima and 10,000 Days are actually from the band, considering the relationship they've had with their label.

And since we're also talking about official vinyl releases that have poor sound quality...that's something I've noticed with a lot of this vinyl resurgence in recent years. A lot of them don't sound as good as they can be and the vinyl often has a bunch of static charge. Meanwhile, original vinyl pressings from late 60s through the 70s sound amazing, even if it's on flimsy thin vinyl. Methinks it has something to do with mastering and cutting, and that people nowadays just can't do it like they used to. Also, I think it makes a big difference if the original recording is on analog tape. If the vinyl pressing is from a digital source, well...kinda defeats the purpose of putting on vinyl.

Yeah, Just wait for the Re-issues. if you start saving NOWWW, you might be in good shape come game time.  8)

Exactly. If it wasn't obvious by now, Buzz made it crystal clear in an interview I watched a while back that they view vinyl editions as collector's items and price them accordingly. So if/when they arrive, they won't be standard 180gram black vinyl with original art. They'll be some bullshit tri-colored splatter with new screen printed art that'll cost $50+. Interesting note: those "cool looking" multi colored splatter vinyl actually cost lest to produce because they're made with leftover scraps and trimmings, yet they're often sold for more than standard black.

And more power to 'em, they realize their fans will gladly pay the price so why not? Gotta feed the dogs, right?

When was the last "normal" vinyl edition of a Melvins album? Nude With Boots?

Steve Albini

THIS. Not even as a player, just record an album with him at his studio. WHY HASN'T THIS HAPPENED YET?

Some other names:

Les Claypool
Michael Gira
Henry Rollins
Attila Csihar
Death Grips
Nurse With Wound
Bootsy Collins

So I read on the AmRep board that there was no Bulls & Bees or 1983 vinyl at the Boise or Missoula shows. So...out of the good stuff after only three shows. Hopefully they restock at some point but if they don't, FUCKING LAME.

Melvins Album Discussion / Re: Freak Puke
« on: June 17, 2012, 11:00:01 AM »
Freak Puke sounds more like a real Melvins album than anything done with the BB boys. The weirdness is back. I know Buzz & Dale make the Melvins into whatever the hell they want and of course ASA, NWB, and TBSM are real Melvins albums, but Freak Puke just sounds like the next phase of the band. It just doesn't feel like a one-off side project thing. It's got a bit of the old and a bit of new; new sound but some of that older feeling is back. It's like a looser, weirder Bootlicker.

You know you've been listening to a good album when the shit is stuck in your head for days. Buzz' riffs from Mr. Rip-Off and the title track have been looping in my head all the damn time. I'm standing there playing short stop on my beer league softball team and I got that fucking awesome middle part from Worm Farm Waltz just playing in my head.

Got mine, ordered it the minute they became available on the website.

How fast did they sell out? Less than 12 hours? Kind of surprising considering the price, but maybe most of them went to Europeans.

if you know how to use google you may be able to do more than just sample what the residency cd set sounds like.
only reason iv decided to buy this is because the actual live  recordings are sound pretty damn good*!

*possible understatement

seriously tho, I wasn't even aware there had been a CD release of this. A kind fellow here clued me in and the rest was easy ass pie

scoff !   :D   you better order now dude....thecrybaby don't press no junk.....this ain't a melvins completest release, shit sandwich is a completest release. This is an essential LP set and rock is hell puts out only quality products. Plus, the melvins wouldn't be selling them on tour if they hadn't signed off on the test pressings....believe that.  You won't be disappointed.

Hail Nerd!
The only reason I ask is because they're live recordings. Don't really want to pay a couple hundred bucks for some shit sounding crowd-recorded thing. But I'll take your word for it, and I would've already ordered if I could but the website says "coming soon" (and I'm not on this super-secret pre-order list which I see mentioned in this thread). Maybe some kind soul can help with that?

Any chance someone in the USA will be getting some copies? I imagine the cost of shipping this thing from Austria to USA is going to be massive.

I know you Melvins nerds will probably scoff at this question, but can we get some sound samples please? I want to make sure the actual material is good quality before I drop $200+ on it. If the sound quality isn't good, then I'll leave this for the completist Melvins collectors.

BTW, fuck Euro to USD conversion  :?
