good you didn't say battles

Coming out of forum retirement to say this:
I love John Stanier and could hardly care less about Battles.

That said, and judging from what Battles I have heard, the Melvins could probably Bootlick the shit out of their stuff.

Melvins Discussion / Re: The Next Melvins Album

Definitely. And, specifically, I hope they do something that sounds nothing like the last 3.
Not that I don't like those records, BUT...

I crave change. You know?

I gotta say, I like both the title and artwork. It's like a cheesy, campy horror flick. Just what the doctor ordered.

Hah. You guys are a riot.
Glad I could "amuse" you.

Don't think I'm not quietly stoked. I am, I am.
I just thought it would make this thread a lot more interesting if someone, ANYone, put their inner fanboy aside for a second and stopped guessing how "awesome" the new album will be.

I saw too many people get their hearts broken with Shrinebuilder.
(And honestly, I'm not a huge metalhead, but what I heard of Shrinebuilder wasn't really upsetting.)

But yes: NwB, Stag, Lysol, HAT, etc. That's the Melvins we know.
That this one band could create so many different styles of rock music that captures our attentions... wow. Y'know?

I don't feel like the Melvins have lost their touch, and I don't believe they ever will.
I simply think we should all wait and see what it sounds like.
It's typical BBS fare. 1 guy wants a 2nd Bootlicker, another guy is happy so long as it's not Prick Part 2, and anoter guy thinks Prick was FANTASTIC.

Just going by what we know (can we even say we actually know anything at this point?):
It's going to sound (at least) a LITTLE... different.
Which, of course, in the Melvins universe, means it'll sound like every other album they've ever put forth.
The more things change, the more they yadda yadda.

I guess what I'm saying is... I know for a fact a lot of people don't like Prick. A lot of people don't like CoD (I do!).
Some don't even like PotRE (I can't BEGIN to understand why), so...

be prepared?

Not to be a gigantic butt (I mean like 100% pure butthole),
but what if it's exciting the way PRICK was? (That is Buzz's favorite record, supposedly.)

What if it blows? What if it's annoying as fuck?

They're doing new things, so we hear.
Well, that's the one thing we don't know we'll like.
...The Melvins we love... is the Melvins we know.

I think it's great that everyone's so faithfully ready to accept this album before they even know what it's called,
but, I'm just sayin'...

I'd rather hope for the best but stay reserved till the release date comes.
And then (hoping for the best here) let the new record blow my mind.

Sort of on-topic, I heard the original Jerkin Crocus this week and it isn't anywhere near as good as the Melvins version. Previously i'd thought 'I know why they've chosen this song, cos of the weird bit at the end and the whispered chorus', but it was in fact Dale y Buzzo that had put those bits into the song. The original is pretty boring.

Actually, that's only partially true. I don't remember what song it's from, but the weird bit at the end of Jerkin' Krokus is from another song off the same Mott the Hoople album. The Melvins just joined the 2 songs together. I forget which song the weird bit was from though. And I wouldn't say the original is boring. They weren't a bad band, methinks. Mott the Hoople just weren't a super-weird band, which the Melvins... are.

As far as 70's rock shtick goes, they were standard fare, with some occasional surprises.
Not bad, not bad.

I have been working at this place for 11 months now, and for 11 months I've been pissed off that they didn't hire me just a couple months earlier, because Shannon was working there, in my very same department.  In fact, he'd worked there before in the past, quit, and returned only to quit again, just shortly before I jumped on board... Eh, maybe it's for the best. I would've probably acted like a ridiculous fanboy, maybe said something creepy/stupid, and possibly gotten fired before I made it into the union.

Taint Pluribus, Taint Unum!

The only Melvins cover I want to hear live is "Jerkin' Krokus."
It was such a perfect choice for them.

Yeah. My guess'd be "Lovely Butterfly."

That's on Honky. Pick it up.

There's also a pretty sweet version on Electroretard.
But good luck finding that in your local muzak shack.

Melvins Discussion / Re: Night Goat; A Poll
May 22, 2006, 08:31:01 AM
yeah, who played bass for Night Goat on Houdini? I thought it was Buzz...

Anyway, I just recall that House of Blues video when they launched into Night Goat and the crowd went nuts. Kevin was making one of those weird faces of his, you know the one where it looks like he's chewing his own tongue? Then when the song really explodes he sorta slid a few feet, in the most arhythmic way. It looked so awesome, comically speaking. But the man just plain rocked, no denying him that.

nooooo, green good, but maybe not THAT green. how about just a tad lighter, a bit more pastel?

i think the colors are really out there, but that works for me. it doesn't really scream "MELVINS!" though.

the face in it kinda reminds me of the cover from a Gentle Giant album...

i'll be there... i hope. i'm trying to bring a couple friends of mine, bandmates. our schedules are hectic, though, so we're finding it hard to find time to go to the box office together so we can get seats next to each other and get our student discounts ($10 off).

but i think we're getting the tix on Sunday. I'm 22, and i've lived in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn my whole life. where are you?
