Melvins Discussion / Re: 19 Jul 2018 - Buzz interview with Eleven PDX

11: Just curious from a fashion standpoint, who makes your awesome stage wear? The sweaters and tunics with psychedelic patterns, geometrics, and eyeballs?

Buzz: The mumus? They are made by a girl named Rebecca Sevrin from Montreal. I knew her from a band called Frightwig, and she had worked as a costume designer in Hollywood. She wanted to make me some mumus. She does really good work.
Nice to hear that question answered.

something about that performance on the video really felt all over the place. So much so that it shocked me. I suppose it could just be the mix or how the room sounded because i can't imagine it was the band.
No drums.

I don't think an old Blu-Ray player will have an issue playing this. Also, a new Blu-Ray player is $50.
I'm talking about a 100% US Blu-ray player that is connected to a voltage converter (in Chile, it's 220V).
What?! WHY?!?! The region verification is on the software level, not hardware!
On most players you can switch the region lock off at a press of a few buttons! o_o
(Sorry, I don't know why I think everyone knows this, but it should be common knowledge)
Here's the list of instructions for every player: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks

Just look for the one that's cheap and good normally and see if it's in this list - problem solved.

I'm pretty sure that after the Fantômas shows in Russia, Buzz said he's cool on ever going back over there.

what a blast it would be, if Melvins played in Turkey for the first time! Russia for that matter. In fact, Russia is a huge market on alternative and metal, so perhaps Melvins should try Russia, St Petersburg and Moscow?
I never had much hope after learning about their bad experience with Fantomas,
then Boris came to us in 2016 and 2017 and I got hopeful again,
but now Oscar's post lowered my hope again.

Heh. I was hoping a month's break would give some slight changes in the setlist.

From a purely aesthetic point of view, i wish Steve would use that bass all the time over that hideous, pointy white thing he uses lately. The one above just looks so damn cool.
Hah, we're in a 100% disagreement on this. This is literally the complete opposite of what I think of those two basses.
That's cool of course. Do you like the white more because it is a bit weird looking maybe and fits in with the Melvins oddball stage look? I suppose in that way it makes sense.
I just like that shape, it's hard to say why exactly, I just do.
The white color also goes well with it, it's more visible in the dark and contrasts with the strings.
With its sharp jagged edges I feel most like calling it an "axe" than any guitar...
It looks like a weapon and it's called the Warlock... – how much cooler does it get than this?

Melvins Album Discussion / Re: Basses Loaded

My head's been stuck on this Kris Novoselic song for a couple days. I never thought I'd say I'd like to hear more accordion in the Melvins catalog, but here I am.
Yes. I loved it in The Bunk Up as well. They should invite Weird Al.

I could do without excessive negativity aimed at others as well.
But that's just how it is, you take the bad with the good.

The thing is, brilliant songs like You've Never Been Right, or The Fool, The Meddling Idiot come from the same emotional source as what we're talking about.
It's crucial. If it wasn't there, the Melvins' songs just wouldn't sound the way they are.
Obviously it's best when Buzz channels his spite into creating great music, and not so great when he takes it out on specific people.
But still. It would be hypocritical to like the band "in spite of" his character, because that part of his character is one of the things integral to their music.

Also, I've learned that it's much, much better to never completely idolize or demonize people.
Life just doesn't work like that. There is often duality and shades of gray.
A few bad traits or flaws in ideology don't necessarily make a bad person or an invalid example.

That being said, I do understand not being able to stand certain traits that get on your nerves.
I've met some people I tried my best to be friends with despite some things in them pissing me off, but ultimately had to distance myself from.

Reminds of how the band D.R.I. got their band name from practicing at one of the members' house and his dad calling them a bunch of dirty rotten imbeciles.
Needless to say they rolled with it.

Also, being a Melvins fan in spite of Buzz? Come on.
I agree he can be a bit too stuck up, but he's still a huge inspiration.
If he wasn't who he is, Melvins wouldn't be Melvins, so that's a really silly thing to say.
One has to be stubborn to get to certain things in life.
I don't see anything wrong with aspiring to not to take shit from anyone, work hard, and learn on others' mistakes.

Melvins Discussion / Re: The first new Melvins album you purchased

I got into the Melvins around the time when Freak Puke was announced.
I started listening from Bullhead and Lysol, then Atlantic, then Trilogy,
but the first CDs I bought were Freak Puke and The Bride Screamed Murder in 2013.
I still think people underestimate Bride.

I remember there was something here about a fake bill that said Jon Spencer would be opening and it turned out to be a dud and there was much chagrin.
Well guess what, now Jon Spencer is actually joining the guys on tour for real!

You didn't post it above, but i really like this B&W one of Buzz you took from the same show. One of the best Buzz live photos i've seen in a long time!
Wow, it's like his head is a flame!  :o
