Melvins Discussion / Kids react to Melvins
« on: February 24, 2015, 11:56:57 PM »
I had Honky playing in the car today. Laughing with Lucifer at Satan's sideshow comes on and my 9 year old son comments 5 or 6 times "this song is weird". Once it was over he wanted to listen to it again!

I later change it to Lovely Butterfly. They sit quietly through most of the song when towards the end my 7 year old daughter comments "Dad, my ears hurt"

Melvins Discussion / Have an urge to breed? I think I know why.
« on: October 30, 2013, 08:15:06 AM »
I was driving home from work last night blasting GPT and noticed something for the first time.  On Clipping Roses, at about the 40 second mark, I heard a low voice say something.  It freaked me out as I was the only one in the car.  I replayed it to be sure I wasn't imaging things.  Sure enough I heard it again.  There is a low voice that says, what I think is "you breed!"

Check it out.

Anyone ever heard this before?  Do you think the voice is saying "you breed" or something else?  Or am I completly wrong and am nuts?  Entirely possible.

Being a Melvins fan can be immediately rewarding.

The first listen of certain songs like The water glass, At a crawl, Respite, The savage hippy, Wispy, for me were instant favorites without question.
Then there are the songs that are good but not necessarily favorites.  We all have them.
Then there are the one's that require effort.  I know some are in this stage with Tommy goes berzerk, not for me, I really like it.  But...for me I can sympathize.

Melvins confessional: I have never been much of a fan of Honky.  For years I thought it was mostly filler but I passed on most songs.  Same goes with POTRE.  It's always been a bit abstract for me to grasp.  end confession.

So...I have a 45 minute commute to work now (my old commute was 8 minutes, not much listening time) which allows me plenty of time to get to know these albums better.  I started with Honky and after a few consecutive listens it's sinking in.  Most especially Lovely Butterflies!  How did I miss the greatness of this song before?  I always thought it was a bit of a throw away.  Not no more.  I guess it just clicked with me finally.  So far, The Melvins are the only band that have that kind affect where you go from skipping or tolerating a song for years to finally "getting it", for lack of better words.  I'm really looking forward to having the time to absorb POTRE too.

So...feel free to share melvins songs where you had a similar experience...

Just curious what gets played the most from the fans.

1. Bullhead live residency
2. Making love demos
3. Ozma

Not necessarily my favorites, just what I've been in the mood for lately.

Melvins Discussion / At the stake question
« on: February 01, 2012, 09:32:57 AM »
At the stake has always been one of my favorites.  I prefer the album version much more than any live version I've heard (which is weird for me).  It just doesnt have nearly the "full" sound as the album version. Think its because of the increased emphasis on the drums but also that really eerie feedback-ish sound throughout the song that isn't done live.  That sound reminds me of some of the background violins on some of Scott Walkers stuff.

Anyhow, anybody know what makes that sound?  I doubt its a guitar but who knows.

Then there is another sound in the song that I can't describe at all.  But at the end of the song it has a really cool end to the sound.  Vague enough? So, Anybody know what that sound is?

Melvins Discussion / Melvins Limerick
« on: January 26, 2012, 09:12:08 AM »
It came to me in a nightmare:

King Buzzo from Harbor of Grays,
played punk rock in his early days.
His Afro did grow,
songs tempos did slow,
and all kinds of hell he did raise!

Patent pending

Melvins Discussion / melvins inspired artwork
« on: January 15, 2012, 09:06:28 PM »
Walsby can't be the only one.  I think it would be cool to see other art, ie: drawings, poems, short stories, etc.  I don't know if this has been done in an older post, if so school me.  I imagine there some creative types on the forum. So feel free to post your work here.

Melvins Discussion / Campaign for Buzz Osborne on Yo Gabba Gabba
« on: November 10, 2011, 09:32:42 AM »
I noticed some of you are YGG fans.  My kids and I love the show.  To me Buzz and/or the melvins are a perfect fit for the show.

I started a Facebook page in support of this notion.  I you agree "like" the page and show your support.  Thanks.

BTW, I know the guy who voices Brobee so this could actually happen.  I just need as much support as possible.

Melvins Discussion / Eye Flies surprise
« on: November 09, 2011, 10:25:40 AM »
I was driving to work, going down a long stretch of road blasting eye flies with the window down.  Then all of the sudden my hearing starts going a little nuts.  It's as if the sounds outside the car enters my ear canals in waves.  I think its due to the dubbed feedback in the intro not being in sync or at the same frequency/pitch. Maybe.   Any ways its probably around the 1:30-2:00 minute mark.  It's pretty weird.  Anyone else experience this?
