Melvins Discussion / How much do the bassists contribute?
« on: April 20, 2018, 06:43:32 AM »
With the fact that the new album features the song writing of the bassists so prominently, it makes me wonder about previous releases. Indeed, the role of the various Melvins bassists over the years.

For instance, this might not be true but i heard somewhere that Mark Deutrom wrote (or helped write?) some of Stoner Witch and Stag. Also the Big Business era seems to include a few tellingly Big Business songs that one might attribute to them. Back to the present and now we are getting a few Steve penned tracks on new releases. It makes me wonder whether Melvins bassists have ALWAYS wrote some Melvins songs. For example, is something on HAT or the trilogy really written by Kevin rather than Buzz!?! In light of these things i would tentatively think he would have wrote something. What do you think?

New album!!

1. Stop Moving To Florida
2. Embrace The Rub
3. Don't Forget To Breathe
4. Flamboyant Duck
5. Break Bread
6. I Want To Hold Your Hand
7. Prenup Butter
8. Graveyard

“We’ve never had two bass players. We’ve had two drummers and two guitar players so it makes total sense to now have two bass players. We’ll be taking this two-prong bass attack on the road as well which should prove to be interesting. Pinkus Abortion Technician is a radically great record and was a stone groove to record. We drank a lot of coffee and enjoyed each other’s company. I like Steven and Jeff a great deal. I admire their bass playing and singing and both of them can grill a mean steak.” - Buzz

Melvins Discussion / Melvins till death!
« on: February 08, 2018, 11:01:35 AM »
A bit morose perhaps, but occasionally i wonder to myself about what will happen when one of the Melvins dies. Out of Buzz or Dale who would be left. I don't write this to cause trouble - im just curious in thinking over that thought. The same as i wonder who will be the last remaining Beatle or something. It does seem like the band intend to carry on "until the wheels come off" as Buzz said once.

Personally i always think that if Dale died first, Melvins would continue. I don't know in what form of course but i suspect Buzz wouldn't call it quits. He would find a way around it either with Coady or some other drummer. Whereas if Buzz was to die first i think that would spell the end of the band being that he is the fundamental songwriter. I can imagine Dale doing more of his solo work or drumming with the bands he sidelines with. Maybe him even starting off a new project of something.

What do you guys think would/might happen?
