Melvins Discussion / recent 7"s
« on: February 08, 2013, 10:52:54 PM »
just checking the Melvin's wiki and I noticed a recent batch of 7"s that have been released, but not sure what songs are on these:

Melvins/Seawhores split
Melvins/Hammerhead Post Moral...
New Years Eve Ball Room Blitz (female trouble) right?

I wonder if this is their new direction to make bux. not bad thinkin', except for completists for me that have no money

Melvins Discussion / Melvins live albums (who's getting tired of them?)
« on: February 27, 2011, 10:40:30 PM »
It seems like they just released the Manchild disc with many of the same tunes that we are to hear on Sugar Daddy. On top of that, we already have an abundance of live recordings from every era of Melvins. From Your Choice Live to Tora Tora Tora to the End, Live at Slim's and the exhausting Melvins vs. Minneapolis set.

Is this really what the world needs? Seems like a cash grab. I mean, shit, throw some covers on there, some obscure B-side stuff, since the only people that buy Melvins records are us, why not appease your fan base?

Has this already been mentioned in another thread? Seems kinda obvious.

Melvins Discussion / Melvins on yer iPod
« on: December 20, 2010, 10:07:37 AM »
So I've been making these infinite Melvins mixtapes (as I call them) and if you haven't tried it before you really should.

I have all these Melvins songs loaded on my iPod. Roughly 400 or so. I excluded Jello and Lustmord collaborations and stick to their proper albums, EPs, live and B-sides. I go to 'artist" and then shuffle all songs and let them play as they will. The beauty of this band is that all their songs sound great back to back to back. A song can pop up from 10 Songs or Mangled Demos and fit nicely next to something from Stoner Witch or (A)SA or even Chicken Switch. Here is a sample mix that I had going this morning:

Revolve (New and Improved) Electroretard
Hide Stag
Raise a Paw (Live) Pick Your Battles
The Bit Stag
Vile Vermillion Vacancy The Making Love Demos
Elks Lodge Christmas Broadcast Mangled Demos from 1983
In the Rain Singles 1-12
Cowboy 7" Plainfield Split
Revolve Stoner Witch
Leech Singles 1-12
The Stupid Creep Nude With Boots
Porg King Buzzo EP
Over From Under the Dog, Girl & Boy Treatment Chicken Switch

There you have it. Totally random. And while these may not seem like they would sound good together, they actually do.

Hey, can anyone help me track this down? Used to have a copy, lost IPOD, blah, blah, I'll spare ya. Butthole? I know someone here has this rare Stag outtake.

Check out this saucy Brit-pub's review.  An almost forgiving one - although they need an updated pic of the Melvins for the homepage...

Melvins Discussion / Subraum #5 with 7"
« on: July 31, 2007, 03:20:56 PM »
Does anyone know about this release? According to the Wiki, there is a song called 'Boris Merman'. Any other info on this?

As I was listening to the new 7" for like, the 9th time tonight, I carefully laid the needle down as I always do and found that the song Boss Hoss was playing in reverse! At first, I was like wtf? I must've accidently flipped the switch to 33RPM. But no. After trying again, the regular song was back again.

What the Melvins have done on their newest limited release is included one groove to be the forward (regular) version and another groove to be the backwards version. Fuck yeah!! Where do they come up with this shit? My question is, has any other band done this before? I have a lot of records, but none of them have two tracks on two different grooves (or maybe I have never noticed before). The possibilities are endless for this. Seriously. You could put all kinds of hidden shit in on your record if this was more common.

I stumbled across this one. A decent Melvins / Big Business show experience. Thought I would share. Maybe some of you were at this show?

Melvins Discussion / Follow up to "We Reach" Melvins tribute

Now that many of you are aware of the track listing on this recent compilation, have any of you asked yourselves why there is nothing really current being covered. I mean the newest song on there is "Laughing.." which was released 8 years ago. Why aren't any of the songs on the Trilogy, HAT or POTRE represented?

My question is, are the Melvins newest albums influencial to anyone or are they just riding the coatails of the genre that they invented 20 years ago?

Melvins Discussion / Prick or Woner Stitch

Does anyone know which one came out first -  Stoner Witch or Prick? I see that the discography lists Prick as coming out before, but are we sure of this?

Melvins Discussion / Adam Jones
« on: December 10, 2004, 09:56:21 PM »
I don't know if this has been addressed yet, but did you guys realize that Adam Jones is an official member of the Melvins? I was sitting here listening to 'Lateralus' and enjoying a Miller High Life and it hit me like a brick in the head, Adam has played on the last like, four albums (the Bootlicker, COD, HAT, POTRE) and maybe the Biafra thing, I don't know, but his presence is sounding more and more audible. The third track on POTRE is totally Adam Jones.
This is great because all those kids who listen to Tool and A Perfect Cirle are eventually going to connect the dots and find their way back to the Melvins, which is fucking awesome. They will be blown away when they hear the missing link between Black Flag and Tool.
I think the addition of Adam Jones on guitar has been crucial to the Melvins development / resurgence of late. Every band that has been around for 20+ years needs a little kick in the butt - a fresh take on things.
Adam is a talented musician and when Tool folds pretty soon - which I think they will, he will become even a larger force in the Melvins.

Thoughts? Discussion? Is this post too long winded? I'm drunk and have nothing better to do than to write on this forum.
