Melvins Discussion / Re: Pinkus Abortion Technician

Yes!, this is as good as I expected, if not better. Prenup Butter might be my fave so far. Love the dark/heavy psych groove they've got going on throughout. Man, Pinkus better bring that banjo along on tour.
Wanted to hear the album before getting show tix. Gonna order up  a tik for Cleveland here soon.
On the CD package, it's the cheapest digipak style available, but at least it's a gatefold, and it's not the over-sized one like TMKA & Hold It In. I have my own stash of CD paper sleeves from Office Max for this situation. Luckily the paper sleeve does fit in the pocket.

ordered today

I should have the CD tomorrow, or Saturday the latest, delivered. Still have not previewed any a/v online. Ordered from Bullmoose, along w/ the Hendrix - Axis.. mono '13 reissue LP for $18, which is really great. Longtime Hendrix fan/collector, never heard that mix, great to have.

Melvins Discussion / Re: 10 Albums that made Buzz
« on: April 17, 2018, 06:45:09 PM »
That really is a good list. I'd like another one as I have to assume there's Funkadelic and Beefheart on it. And I've always wondered what Buzz thinks about Monk, the greatest musician ever.

I would bet Buzz has been exposed to Monk, likely thru Trevor and blasted in the van across country. Buzz has name-checked "Maggot Brain", & "The Spotlight Kid/Clear Spot" in past interviews several times. I've always wondered what Mike Watt thinks of Miles & Zappa, and what his favorite albums/eras are. Dude always references Beefheart & Coltrane, never really Miles & FZ.

Great picks, especially Miles, ZZ Top, Stones, Neil, Bowie. Those are some of my favorite albums by those artists too. I was wearing my Zuma shirt yesterday.

It's neat how everyone gets something different from On The Corner. I've never thought of it as a "dual drum-centric" album, but yeah, it sure is. Miles never toured live w/ two drummers, but that album definitely has dual everything - drums, keys, guitars, saxes. In fact nobody really knew who played what on that album until the internet, and when the CD reissues/Complete Sessions box set came out.

So has anyone seen the the CD package itself yet? Jewel-case, or the over-sized "LP replica" style cardboa digipak? Hopefully they got away from those like "Hold It In" was. I'm hoping for standard jewel case which they did last for Basses Loaded.

Are you familiar with Cream now tho?
Not really. I haven't listened to them for a good while. I just about recall listening to Disraeli Gears before but i don't think i've heard anything else from them. As you suggest, i should correct that.
Live Cream Vol 1 and Vol 2. Those are the tits!

Live Cream Vol. 2 is the shit 8). Still have it on cassette, and LP. That one has more of their stronger songs w/ some sick soloing.
Vol. 1 on the other hand has too much endless loose jamming that sort of goes nowhere IMO.

Listened to it once, liked it. Piano!
Im curious. Has there ever been another Melvins song with piano involved before? I can't think of one right now but surely there has right?

Prig, from The Bootlicker. Now the negative reaction makes me really want to sneak peek this, but I can wait 3 wks. I have plenty to listen to new/old until then. It seems in the last 5 yrs, the "metal" crowd has more or less been annoyed w/ the Melvins output lately. I love where they're at these days. But this is coming from a diehard Zappa/Beefheart/Primus fan here.

I will not partake in streaming online or sneak a listen until I have the CD. If I want to hear Stop/Florida until then, I'll crank the Syracuse '15 show.
The week of 4/20/18 is gonna rule. New Melvins, and Neil Young has a new Archive release coming out that week - Live @ The Roxy '73(Tonight's The Night Live). Something to bundle up on and get free shipping that week.
Pretty much the goldmine of live '70s Neil. Very glad that it's also a 2CD set. I refuse to pay the over-inflated prices for Neil's stuff lately on vinyl, RSD or otherwise.

Melvins Discussion / Re: Worst Melvins song

"You Can Make Me Wait"
An awful parody/attempt at a corporate radio-friendly style pop song. Unintelligable & annoying vocoder-affected singing. Did Leary bring this crap to the table? As much as I despise this song, when I play the CD, I usually sit through it and laugh pretty hard.

On Hank3:  Wish they had collaborated more than that one tour and the 2 songs on Crybaby. Melvins/Hank3 should cover "Harder Than Your Husband", & "Lonesome Cowboy Burt".
Does anyone in Hank3's circle know what his deal is lately? I can understand the freedom of not being stuck to a label and doing the album/tour-rinse/repeat cycle every year, but he's going on 4 yrs now w/ no live activity or new material.

I was totally not even thinking about the Sausages album #-o. The Bowie, Fugs, & Roxy Music ones are the top 3 off of that.

« on: February 22, 2018, 04:44:31 PM »
are they also remastered cause bullhead is really muddy in the 400 hz area  :? still their best from the early 90s

I have the two-fers, they sound awesome. They'll probably end up more collectable in 5-10 yrs. I'm not that much of a completist where I'd need to buy the single album versions too.
You must be referring to the Bullhead CD? Yeah, it's pretty thin, but if you turn the bass up all the way, it does the trick 8). The 2015 LP reissue sounds way better than the CD. These new reissues will be of the exact same sound quality as the two-fers.

Hope there's a standard Ipecac vinyl release along w/ CD. I'll have the CD right away, can't wait. When's the $30 cassette version due out?

It's real shitty that Melvins are playing Toronto on 5/16, then coming down the QEW, crossing the Peace Bridge passing right through Buffalo on down the I-90 through Erie PA & on to Cleveland on the 18th. I seriously want to do the old "light up a steaming pile of dog-shit in a bag trick" on the front steps of The Mohawk, Tralf, 9th Ward, & Iron Works for not making the Melvins happen here in 2018. :merde: Motherfuckers need to step their game up. :disagree:
WNY promoters baffle me sometimes. You get the great surprises now and again like Shellac twice in two consecutive album tours, & Negative Approach 3X in 4 yrs,, but when a show like this is passed over, it's a total WTF. Unless the Melvins are saying no, we want a day off w/ border cross and all, but I doubt it.

Like I said earlier, it's a Friday in Cleveland, I'll take the 1/2 day off work and hit it. Grog Shop is great. Have seen Melvins there in '04, '10, & '12. Fuck You Toronto , I will not drive to your overpopulated city to see a show and deal with the border bullshit & congested traffic. I'll always rather drive that extra hour to Cleveland just to stay in the good ol' US of A and have a more stress-free drive.

That would rule if they played the Mohawk!!!

I've talked to the staff there, some who are in local bands. They are definitely fans too, and have tried in the past, almost happened over Iron Works '16. Don't know details on why it hasn't happened yet. High On Fire, Mudhoney, Meat Puppets, & OFF! have played there. Melvins sure as fuck should.

For all of western/central NY, actually Rochester is due. They were in Buffalo last Aug '16 @ Iron Works along w/ Syracuse which got consecutive tours from '13 thru '17. Last Roch show was Melvins Lite summer '12, warmup show before that Canadian Lite run. I'd personally like to see Ithaca NY get a Melvins fix. The Haunt is the perfect size venue for Melvins. Saw Bob Mould & Pere Ubu there within the last 5 yrs, epic shows.
