GSC for RSD:

A five-boardie event (budspawn, Der L, Macbastard, Duffy and me) and undoubtedly the best gig of the tour. Loud as fuck, a tiny room, and an arid and hilarious merch table. If any of you Americans come to the UK for a Melvins show, make sure it's here.

I met Buddy Holiday for the umpteenth time and Budspawn for the first time here tonight. They can provide a review, I'll provide photographic proof:

Melvins Discussion / Melvins Mentioned in Night Sky
October 09, 2022, 12:45:01 PM
I'm watching the Amazon sci-fi series Night Sky. In Season 1 Episode 5 "Driving Lessons", at 38:21, van driving Nick says:

"Everyone's always talking about Nirvana, like they invented the wheel, but the Melvins were just as influential."

Great new idea from Trevor Dunn:

https://trevordunn.bandcamp.com/album/flexes-for-carietta-white-mix-tape-s-vols-1-n

"Here is what you'll get for the steep price along with various excuses, disclaimers, legal mumbo jumbo, hieroglyphs, and/or selling points:

"One exclusive 90 minute cassette tape curated by myself from my personal collection. This mix tape will include one exclusive and short (50 to 120 seconds) improvisation by myself on upright bass. This short piece will be one of an unknown number in a series of "Flexes For Carietta White". The tape will include exclusive cover art--a hand-cut paper collage-- made by myself and I will sign each playlist. My excessive use of the word "exclusive" in this paragraph is aimed at driving home the point that all these components (the playlist, the improvisation and the artwork) are one-of-a-kind. Each tape will be unique in all regards from all others, so you, the buyer, will possess something hand-made that no one else in the world owns.

"No refunds. No requests. No complaints.
Unless your tape is, for some reason, destroyed or unplayable there will be no refunds. I won't be listening to complaints about the price, what is or what is not on the playlist, or the type of cassette (these things are much harder to find than I remember from the '80s). My go-to is Maxell XL-II high bias when it's available. I reserve the right to make a playlist I myself would listen to and find interesting. I reserve the right to make a playlist that includes themes or not and that may mess with you a little bit. I suppose you could say it's a crap shoot on what you get and if you'll like it, but I do aim to make the listening experience enjoyable. You'll likely hear things you've heard before and hopefully things you've never heard before and will be encouraged to research further. Yeah, $100 is a lot for a tape, I get it. However, I've already been told I'm undercharging. You are free to not purchase it as well. Pretty sure you could get 10 six packs of Coors Light for the same price.

"I am finding that it takes me quite some time to complete both the mix and the artwork as I put a lot of effort and thought into both. It takes me much longer than 90 minutes per tape so please be patient with your order. Each purchase will be addressed in order and shipped off within a week of completion, and of course, the timeline depends on how many orders I receive.

"Shipping for domestic orders is included in the fee. Sorry, EU, AUS, SA, UK, CAN, etc. Gotta add a few bucks for overseas not to mention the time it takes to fill out those pesky customs forms."

Melvins Discussion / Sugar Daddy Disaster 7"
December 21, 2021, 12:55:34 PM
From HAZE FB:

Long winded post about a small run of records. So a decade or so ago, the Melvins and myself launched a series of 12" records called the "Sugar Daddy Series"  that were split/shared records with other bands the Melvins were influenced/inspired by. It ended up being like 13 records in all and included a ton of greats like the Butthole Surfers, U-men, Killdozer, Napalm Death and many more. The first released was to be with mpls legends, the Cows. Well, when the records showed up, through whatever miscommunication long since lost in time,  what were waiting for me were 7"s. I already had the 12" sleeves printed, and expensive specialty bags sitting here, and I couldn't use 7"s. Their existence would confuse folks as the series hadn't even been established yet. So the manufacturer agreed to have them destroyed. Fast forward a decade and I'm over chatting with the fine folks at Noiseland MFG (I still work with them regularly) and it's mentioned that 150 of the fuck up 7"s survived the purge and were found buried in the warehouse, and asked did I want them?! Bam! Sugar Daddy Disaster 7" is born out of the boredom of waiting 10 months for current projects to get pressed. I found the same style specialty vinyl bags, and did a new take on the original sleeve design by Mackie Osborne , had 'em screen printed by the speedy Boxy Mouse MFG, and then added a rubber stamp cut print of a Sugar Daddy's Sack (of dough). As a mini Sugar Daddy relic tchotchke thang, they came out really cool! So we'll kick off the new year by throwing these online Jan 2. I've even got a variant of 10 printed on pink paper I'm bringing to Fresno Jan 8!

Loving the vinyl and sleeve variations Melvins has put out. Lockdown got me curious about CDs (although a motoring analogy comparing vinyl albums with CDs would like comparing a Formula 1 racing car to some sort of utility vehicle) -

Melvins Discussion / Deathimizer Pedal
April 29, 2021, 01:28:12 PM

https://www.hilbishdesign.com/shop/melvins-pessimiser-6x25r

Introducing our newest and noisiest collaboration with King Buzzo from The Melvins...The Deathimizer! This is no transparent overdrive, amp like distortion, or smooth fuzz. The Deathimizer is a fuzz with ear drum wrecking highs stacked with an analog two octave down circuit for maximum chaos. Don't expect H9000 tracking, the Deathimizer unpredictably blips, bloops, groans, and drones its way to give you the most brutal noise making machine possible. With the octave control off you have crusty fuzz tones that sound like rusty nails shooting from your speakers, as you mix in the two octave down signal you can conjure 8-bit leads, synth sounds, and unpredictable drones.

Artwork by Mackie Osborne

Controls:
Fuzz- Controls the amount of fuzz, going from mild drive to all out buzz-saw madness
Volume - Overall effect level
Filter - Low pass filter control
Octave - Blends between straight fuzz and a fuzz tone two octaves down for maximum chaos!

Soft Touch Footswitch

Power: 9V 100mA center negative supply only

A: Natasha Producoes E Discos released the Mesomorph Enduros compilation in Brazil in 1992, on license from Big Cat. This had originally been put out in the UK on Big Cat Records and was a collection of music compiled by JG Thirlwell and dedicated to the recently deceased Unsane/Boss Hog drummer, Charlie Ondras.

Wonder what the connection was between Big Cat and Brazil.

Melvins Discussion / Dale Crover - Christmas Time Is Here
December 04, 2020, 02:13:05 PM

New, hand made, lathe cut single, limited to 100 pre-ordered units, just been announced on Joyful Noise. $15 plus shipping, with 10% discount code using 'VIP' at checkout.

From JN:

As you may remember, we have a tradition at the label of throwing a big holiday party each year, inviting our artists to come to town and record holiday songs. But obviously 2020 is not your average year... Instead of canceling our holiday tradition due to the global pandemic, we decided instead to create a "holiday special" and asked our artists to record and film holiday songs from their respective locations across the globe.

The Joyful Noise 2020 Holiday Special will take place on Friday, December 11 - hosted by our own Mike Adams and featuring holiday performances from a whopping EIGHTEEN artists on the JNR roster, including: Deerhoof, Dale Crover, WHY?, Lou Barlow, No Joy, Thor Harris, Sleep Party People, Rob Crow, Danielson, Helvetia, and others.

In addition to the "televised" video broadcast portion of this event, we are releasing just 100 copies of each song on snowflake-shaped lathe-cut 7" records (just in time for Christmas!). Each "Snowflathe" is limited to just 100 copies, lovingly hand-made by us.

As a VIP you now have access to purchase these ultra rare Snowflathes a full week before they are publicly available. You can order individual copies (which includes a download of the full 18-song compilation), or you can order all 18 Snowflathes in one discounted package.

100% of net sales will be donated to World Central Kitchen and Second Helpings.
