Melvins Discussion / Re: Honky Letterpress CDs at amrep bored

what kind of scumbag would ask a hyper-inflated price for a MELVINS recording or object?
i agree thats why when i was the first to see the thread on amrep i decided not to get another copy to flip and instead leave them for other people to have the chance. ive got one copy for myself and thats all i need.
pinkys ebay feedback shows 3 sold already, and the one she sold me makes 4 and she must have a personal copy so 5 already, thats a scumbag.

wow if you look at her feedback you can see she has already flipped three of these cds on ebay, then theres the one she sold me out of ebay and the one she would have kept for herself, so 5 simple wasnt enough, she needed 6 copies, i just feel sorry for the 17th person to try and get the cd on amrep as that person has missed out thanks to pinkys greed,

how soon can we expect to see you selling it on ebay pinky.

i dont mind paying lots for records because

you scream poor when negotiating.

I recommend you read:
The art of negotiating.

You would not get burned so much

change that too i dont mind paying lots for old used collectable records that are being sold by someone who actually once owned them because they liked it. of course i hate having to buy NEW records direct from a flipper, who doesnt, i havent ever had to flip anything so i guess im not that poor afterall, now leave me alone this thread doesnt need to turn in to another arguement thread.
i hereby leave.

i thought most people here would probly agree that cds are simply undesirable,
i dont mind paying lots for records because buying records is what i enjoy, regardless of sound quality a record just has this unexplainable attractiveness that a cd cannot achieve, let alone an mp3.

has anyone here seen the documentary "vinyl". thats some guys that take it to the extreme but they "get" the whole desirability thing.

So because it's a bootleg it's somehow less worthwhile than an official copy?

buying bootlegs isnt what record collecting is about, i want quality, this will no doubt be a badly photocopied cover and the above statement about sound quality.
other examples of this are the leech cd that sounds as if someone had all the singles and burnt them to cd with a turntable pitch control miles out. this isnt what any band intented for there music. not to mention the band getting nothing for it.

i dont mind what any of these records cost, i would just like a chance to buy them direct from amrep but it seems the melvins are every flippers favourite band, its pretty sad really that more melvins records are released to the public via ebay.

you will notice the seller has negative feedback for not paying for the item. wouldnt be the first time if it is who you think it is.

some good ideas mentioned here, kickstarter is definately the way forward in my opinion,
i have backed a few projects on there already, and i think the way it works is great.
the more you pay the more you get. if melvins put a record on kickstarter with various price points with bonus things chucked in, even test pressings at a set price etc, it will raise lots of funds before they even need to spend a penny. and then the people who really want this stuff would get a fair shot at it rather than having to pay evilbay for it.

also the way the residents used to do things is worth copying i would have thought. the whole idea of being in a fan club and securing all limited editions released in that year.  how many melvins fans would happily pay $30 a year just to reserve a numbered edition of all upcoming limited editions. i know i would.
and the residents always sell lots of dog tags with download codes. which is done by many bands but i havent seen melvins get in on this yet but i think they would do well out of it, for example, i dont download, i like hard copies of everything, but if they had a dog tag for $10 on the merch stand i would be buying it anyway as it would be something i would want to own. like buzz says, the music is free, and that is a way of putting the free music onto a tangible object.

i think an album of stuff with jg thirlwell would be the best collaboration.
mine is no discrace has been a favourite off that album since i got it. also foetus and melvins are both among my favourite bands.
