Melvins Show Reviews / Re: GAMH SF May 2011
« on: May 17, 2011, 10:31:27 PM »
Not really sure how you can rave about the first part of the show. Whenever I see a show at GAMH it seems like it takes 10-15 minutes before you can hear Buzz in the mix. The drums take over, and thats cool, but bascially I am there to see Buzz freaak out on the guitar. There was a great version of Flipper's SACRIFICE in the first set,  when he asked for a sacrifice, it didnt sound like it was a rhetorical question. But in general I thought the HOUDINI set was much stronger.
I was outside before the show and someone offered Buzz some weed, he said he "wasnt into gateway drugs" [sic] and declined the offer but did accept choclate from another stoner munchie type,,,alfunso

Melvins Discussion / Re: Buzz or Dale?

I have to go with Buzz, because I am a completely superficial person who judges people only on thier personal appearance and I have to give credit where credit is do re: Buzz's do. It is the greatest rock n roll trademark since the guy in AC/DC started dressing like a schoolboy. It is an international symbol known the world over that needs no translation. It simply says: "hey you muther fuckers r u ready to rock? the answear: affirmative."
Actaully I would like to start a new poll: " IS it time for Buzz to get a hair cut?" Please weigh in,,alfunso

Well according to the thread on the Spaceland shows, the shows in LA are being recorded and filmed for DVD or possible reality series, "life with the Osbournes",,,Alfunso

That was such as amazing show. I wish the Melvins had the technology to record it and get it out to fans. Other bands like the Pixies have recorded and sold a lot of cds of thier live shows.  I think that was the greatest Melvins show I have seen  as well,,,Alfunso

they have two drummers who sit right up front and engage in thundering, rumbling grooves like Taiko drummers on smack. About ten minutes into the first set, you could acutally hear Buzz's guitar in the mix and that took everything to a new level. People danced by vibrating around the place, shucking, head bobbing to the weird music. it was a great show. there was a song about a hippo. they werent playing  songs so much as engaging in sonic mayhem. and witchcraft. they told us that not everything was icebergs and hotrods but earthshaking synapses colllapsing around rusty implements. I really havent witnessed somic mayhem on this level since the Butthole Surfers were peaking in the 80's, the Surfers couldnt sustain it (who can?) but the Melvins are just getting started,,,alfunso

Have Y'all heard of Mats Gustafasson? This man is a free jazz horn player virutoso. His best band is "the Thing" where he tries to bridge the aesthetic of free jazz and punk. He has played and recorded with Sonic Youth as well. His sound can be a  monster. I would love to hear him throw down with the Melvins. or how about that Noise band  "wolf eyes'? there would be some heavy shit..alfunso

Thanks for posting this. Does anyone have any idea what Buzz is talking about when he says that he plans to start making things that cant be downloaded off the internet? A Buzz Osbourne Oven Mit? a  leather Melvins jockstrap with studs and a thunderbolt? Since we are the prime demographic we should do a poll to find out what products we would like to purchase from him.
I bet in 15 years Buzz will be a spokesman for some big drug company talking about Enlarged Prostate to groups of aging boomers. Go Buzz,,alfunso

The camera picked out Buzz for a spilt second in 4th inning. I couldnt see who he was with, but his DO is unmistake-able. Hope he is a Giants fan. Cant see him rooting for the god forsaken George Bush Texas Rangers, go giants, go melvins,,alfunso
