Anyone have any idea how long tickets will be around online and what the prices are expected to go for, I gotta get mine ASAP, they go on sale tomorrow for the Toronto show at 10 EST.

Do you think they'll sell out quickly, I might not have enough cash until next week to get one right away!  :(

Buzz and Trev-meist will be here on the 10th of june and my B-day is the 14, there's no way I can miss this show!!! It's tradition man!

I first saw the melvins the week of my 16th birthday and it's like a birthday tradition to see them play ever since!

I can only say as to philly, but philly melvins shows usually sell out, but not until a few weeks before the show. LA and Sf might be different as those are both essentially home turfs.

Melvins Discussion / Re: The Melvins in 2020...

I feel like every Melvins album is made with a specific purpose or agenda.
Agreed! That definitely does seem to be the case more so lately. Buzz has an idea and then they run with it. Initially i wasn't too sure about all that, but now im okay with this process. It makes for some interesting changes/dynamics. Fun too!

But, could even Melvins put out 13 good albums in a year? I'm not a Mars Volta fan at all- is that OR-L stuff good at all... or is it just quantiity?
I haven't listened to those Omar albums so i don't know. I know he tends to record all the time and then just puts the recordings on the shelf to be released at some point. So i suppose it's not quite true that they are rushed or recorded back to back or brand new.

As far as Melvins i think they are somewhat the same. It does seem that they record quite a bit of stuff and then that just sits around waiting for Ipecac to decide when it's best to release it. So i presume the band do have some material in the vaults ready to go. The Void Manes collab, the 50 Melvins Lite unreleased songs and (unless it was a joke from Pinkus) we know there's that Rolling Stones covers album 'Sticky Feet' too. So that's potentially 3 there! However no i don't think Melvins could release 13 records in a year, but i was just using that as an example. I could imagine them putting out 4 or 5 though if they have that backlog of material. Whether it would be good or not, well who knows. Like Buzz said he could put out a record once every 2 or 3 years but he would have still recorded it quickly and exactly the same. Bands back in the day used to put out 2 records a year sometimes so why not now!

All good points- I sort of forgot that it appears they basically have 4 or 5 albums recorded already, as you point out.

Also, I back the 2 albums a year standard, as you say. Bowie, Judas Priest, Queen and others put out their best material in that time frame.

Every new year that comes round i think to myself "perhaps this will be the year where Melvins go crazy with releases!" you know 4 albums in 12 months or something like that! Remember a few years ago when Ipecac released 13 Omar Rodriguez-Lopez albums in one year!!! Wish they would do that for Melvins. It would be really fun to witness.

Genuine question - Melvins are one of the most prolific rock bands and at least to me, all their material ranges from very good to excellent. The last ten years have been a boon in my opinion. I feel like every Melvins album is made with a specific purpose or agenda.

I think I'd rather have 1 excellent album, or even 1 album made with a purpose, than 13 okay ones made just to be made.

Melvins Discussion / Re: Melvins gig posters get their own topic

Is it possible that this is phony? Would LA guns play a house show? Is there a date mentioned on the flyer? I don't see it.

I got it off the Nick Blinko Patron Saint of the Bizzare Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/6417967223/

Then I checked themelvins.net wiki.

My question is why would RKL not be on the bill at this show? Look at the other dates during this period. So I'm not 100% sure, but why would anyone want to fake this?

I am thinking this is phony. I just learned that RP never played USA. some USA shows were scheduled during the 90s reunion, but those shows were canceled. The flyer itself may be "real," but I even doubt that. There's no date listed on the flyer and I doubt LA guns would be playing a house show at this point in their career. "Why" would someone do this? to create a gag and get people talking about it, like we are right now, is my guess.

People are Just gonna start putting green tape on their albums now.  #-o

another musician - maybe Jello?- said this, but it was weird and disrespectful of Tim to tape up the albums like that. It kind of destroys the art.

I really dug this band. I'm not sure why it didn't catch on or why people didn't seem to really like it. I guess because people were expecting Sleep II, but it was really more like Hawkwind meets Sabbath.  I saw the San Jose show and it ruled.

Reminds me of the Broken Bat project with Ty Segall, Dale & Steven (just before Steven officially joined the Melvins).
If I had to guess Buzz put the kaibosh on that real quick

I don't think it was Buzz. I seem to remember a Dale or Steven interview where they essentially said "Ty lost interest." I could be wrong.

I think for most people, it's the album that comes out just after you really get into the band. I got into the band after 'Nude with Boots' came out, so I was very excited for 'bride screamed murder' and 'bulls and the bees'. Lucky for me, those albums both rule. I still get pretty excited for any Melvins material. It helps that most of their albums have a "purpose" in that, each album doing something interesting and new.

Melvins Discussion / The Melvins in 2020...

Ok! 2019 was a relatively slow year for the Melvins (but for most other bands, it would be considered "highly productive.") What will they release in 2020?! Will we get the rumored 'history of rock' album? More collabs? An interesting tour, perhaps? Who has the inside info? What do you hope they'll release?

Also, Winter is when they usually record. Does anyone know what they're up to?

Had another listen to PAT today. My dislikes still remain in place. At the core of it, this is actually a pretty good Melvins album. It's only the absolute stinker that is Embrace The Rub that ruins things. But i will add in the Beatles cover as somehow not very good too. Graveyard is another that although good just doesn't work at that slow, disjointed, almost deary(!) pace. I wish it was speeded up a bit like that "outdoor ice cream" video of the band playing it. That would have been an awesome finish. Replace the two stinkers and speed up Graveyard and this would have been a pretty damn good Melvins record.

Interesting! It just goes to show, different strokes. I love embrace the rub. it's basically a first wave west coast punk song and it's my favorite tune on the album.
