The Melvins have put out two albums since this was announced. Have they played this Floyd cover anywhere? Anyone heard it? Does it exist?

I might be in the minority on this one, but I'd love to hear "Black Heath" with the two bass player attack. Have they ever played this live at all? One of the best grooves between Dale and Steven, then add Pinkus to put some boom on the bottom I think this could crush.

Melvins Lyrics & Tabs / 2017 A Walk With Love and Death (DEATH)
« on: July 16, 2018, 04:36:02 PM »
Some of this is fuzzy. Feel free to comment with your suggestions and I plan to re-edit my post as a see necessary.

BLACK HEATH:

Oh bright, beautiful
All green and small
Seeing through the atmosphere
The beautiful, black veil

Does this seem nasty?
Brutal and calm
This time in the graveyard on the fourth of July

My difference
A certain kind of playfulness
There's never enough left
Not a part of their world

It seems so easy for another slice of cake

Tri-state heavy now
The important event
A breath of violence
For the bigger the game

Oh bright, beautiful
All great and small
Seeing through the atmosphere
The beautiful black veil

Does this seem nasty?
Brutal and calm
This time in the graveyard on the fourth of July

It seems so easy
Now a nudge, a slice of cake

SOBER-DELIC (ACID ONLY):

That's the beautiful thing about remembering
It all seems natural but it don't mean a thing
What have I left here?
The capacity to carry it

I didn't notice
Part of the fabric of life
I didn't know it ever would
I didn't even when I could

Perspective of perplexity
Treat poeple like that, they'll break your arms and legs
You're going to miss me
When you have to take a chance

The heart is sadness
This action I foresee
I didn't ever know it would
I couldn't even when I could

That's the beautiful thing about nothing
It all seems horrible and it means everything
You won't miss me
You won't do a thing

It's not so bad now
It doesn't hurt like that
I didn't know it ever would
I couldn't even when I could

EUTHENASIA:

Fortunes and home
It mean to only roll
You sit atop my land
And took the only wall

Do you want to feel my heart?
I could be (I could be) inside your
Inside your...

I look for rolling
And took the only wall

Do you want to feel my heart?
I could be (I could be) inside you
Inside your...

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?:

You don't understand me
You don't like my candy
You want a handy-dandy
Don't you even know?
That's not how it goes

What's wrong with me?
What's wrong with you?
What's wrong with me is what's wrong with you

You need an interpreter
Not a video worshipper
Because we're only getting stupider
On the telephone
With can and bong

What's wrong with me?
What's wrong with you?
What's wrong with me is what's wrong with you

I see how it's going to go
You roll your eyes as I speak in code
You pick a bone
I trip alone

EDGAR THE ELEPHANT:

These my friends and family
They come calling back
It's not supposed to be
Impossibilities

A half a billion miles
He's not alive to say
He died with the other three
And now we know his name
But we don't where or why
What do you see?
It's a medical team
To get it out of me

Vaccination
Vaccination, zeroes you have written by the fragile words and tongue

These my friends and family
They come crawling back
It's not supposed to be
Impossibilities

FLAMING CREATURE:

It's clear that they don't live long, eating up adrenaline
Or not at all

They can rewrite what they're seeing
Together they can tear apart
Or not at all

Specialize in what they're making
I don't want to see a thing
Or relaxing

Rewrite seeing what they're making
Together we can waste a lot
Or not
Specialize in what they're making
We can take it door to door
Or not at all

It's clear that they don't live long, heating up adrenaline
Or not at all

They can rewrite what they're seeing
Together they can tear apart
Or not at all

Every night is the king of the zombie
You might come close, but it's not quite clear
Oh, oh

CHRIST HAMMER:

Maybe you should help me
Maybe you should leave
What's wrong with the ride-along
Just across the street

A poor choice of words
And a poor choice of friends
I looked hard but it would not stop
Wrong side again (okay)

Something will not happen
Just a waste of time
Here we go with the cattleprod
And red wine

You lay there victim
You lay there dead
I don't know where I want to go
But this ain't it

Stupid hustle king
Things you got
He's not very good
He's all we got
Something should happen but we're almost out of time

Maybe you should help me
Maybe you should leave
Nothing wrong with the ride-along
It just stinks

You lay there evicted
You lay there dead
I don't know where I want to go
But this ain't it

CACTUS PARTY:

You close your eyes and count to ten
We're killing time not noticing again
Sometimes the world doesn't seem so strange

There were drugs running all around the room
But I didn't think those things would live too long
We were warned to keep away

I'm getting tired of yelling 'til I fall a dough
That hen dark rooster won't get dead on toe to toe
Watch it all going down the drain

There's one thing that you can never lose
The never ending scream of brainish fools
Close your eyes and count to three

Sometimes the world doesn't seem so strage
I had big plans, you take the good lord's place
Now it's all coming back to me

It's a beautiful thing and no mystery for all to see
I count sixteen but you can't count to three
Watch it all going down the drain

We were warned to try to keep ourselves away
Her had big plan of the good lord's faith
Close one eye and count to three

CARDBOA NEGRO

Dig deep, my hero
Like it was before
I walked for miles in your shoes and I couldn't wait
My secret's all compression
While shielding me and one day...

Melvins Album Discussion / Re: A Walk With Love and Death
« on: July 16, 2018, 02:34:30 PM »
I have a new theory about this record. Would love anybody's input.

Notice it's titled a WALK with love and death. We know Buzz's cold heart seems to be warmed mostly by a few things, and in particular his dog(s).

So how did a twenty year old b-side get revived for this album? My guess is the title, "Euthenasia."

I'm imagining the DEATH album as a eulogy for a family dog, or maybe just the first three songs?

Then the LOVE album with its bus stop sounds and playground kids and helicopters and rambling park bench conversations and meth head diatribes, all sound like what a dog might experience on a typical walk through a busy Los Angeles neighborhood. "Scooba" is that one moment of the day when the dog gets excited and chases after a toy or something or digs in the bushes. Lots of times, though, it's just psychedelic swirls and the menace of strange animals' scents in your territory. Dogs live through their nose first, and if we translate that environmental olfactory experience to audio, it might sound a lot like the soundscapes on this album.

Give it a listen and see if anything pops out at you.

Thanks! This is awesome and hilarious. Similar to the "Having Fun on Stage with Elvis" albums except those were actually sold commercially by the Colonel at Elvis gigs.

Sounds like "Cowboy" may be the definitive stage banter record. I can't remember if I ever heard this, there was once a big pack of rarities floating around the blogs. It's on my list of "snatch old vinyl when I have the spare cash" that may some day help an old collector pay some bills.

Melvins Discussion / Re: Pinkus Abortion Roll-Call
« on: July 14, 2018, 09:19:19 AM »
Last night's show blew my god damn mind. Highlights = "Sesame Street Meat," "At a Crawl," "The Talking Horse," "Honey Bucket," "Evil New War God," and "Don't Forget to Breathe." The Bowie cover sounded great. "Let It All Be" had been better with Melvins Lite, but I'm glad they play it. "Don't Forget" seemed to be the one place where they really stretched out and played as a foursome (and intro to "Eye Flys," of course). Also Dale conducting the beginning of "The Bit" is awesome.

Great setlist, as I'm sure you all know. The merch table was on point. The sound was good. Of all the Melvins gigs I've seen, this really ranks up there. The Troubadour is my favorite venue to see them in L.A.

The two bass players thing played into it less than I thought. I was standing towards the Pinkus side of the stage and I don't regret that choice. Pinkus may be the Melvinsiest bassist since the Kevin days.

Steven's voice was good, both lead and back-up. I didn't notice much of his finger work since I was opposite.

Buzz and Dale annihilated. But you already knew that. I'm sore. I couldn't sleep afterwards. It's crazy how songs can be on a record for years or decades.  Then I see it played live and I graduate from "appreciating" and just fall head over heels. I have a couple tunes that I'm sort of swimming in for the last few hours.

Melvins Discussion / Re: TOAP Podcast ... Walsby & Buzz

That was pretty good. I also liked getting the background on Walsby in the footnotes podcast. I think drumming with the Patty Duke Syndrome with teenage Ryan Adams in NC was the most surprising tidbit.

Haven't been able to listen yet. What's this footnote? Footnote 171 - "Buzz" Osborne & Brian Walsby Part #2

Eh... I'd say just in vinyl b-sides there's a whole two albums worth that has never seen a CD. The HAT b-sides, the Sausages b-sides, Sawed Off, With Yo Heart single, Love Canal, Pigskin, Alleged

251
The thing is, brilliant songs like You've Never Been Right, or The Fool, The Meddling Idiot come from the same emotional source as what we're talking about.
It's crucial. If it wasn't there, the Melvins' songs just wouldn't sound the way they are.

Totally agree. One of my favorites is "Let It All Be" which sounds like it should be a zen statement, but it really seems to be a direct takedown of a fellow music professional. I grew up in a house with no empathy, where tough love and stoicism were the virtues that hid stubbornness and defensiveness. I had to work through all that as an adult to become someone worth being around. But when I hear the cold condescension and righteousness in some Melvins songs and in Buzz's persona, it does click with something that I'm not allowed to let out in polite conversation. I don't need a mosh pit or a call to rebellion. But a bitter, cryptic missive wrapped in tricky riffs is a thrill I can only get from the Melvins.

If the ending of "Foaming" were a woman, I might just elope with her. We could settle down and have cute kids, and I would cherish her and treat her like royalty until my dying day. We'd save up to some day send our kids to a private electric wire school and we'd name our dog the sound of those hihats.

How about the drum and lumberjack intro to "War on Wisdom" for that hallway sound?

Also I started looking for any indie/off-the-radar bits I missed from Toshi's production catalog. Right now I'm digging (big) pig - Puerco Grande. Looking for more suggestions.

I think I can see why he and Buzz have this long relationship working together. He seems easy-going, and he knows what works for him without being too "learned" about everything.

Nowi have to listen to Bulls & Bees for that hallway sound. From memory "National Hamster" has a pretty live club sound but I could be wrong.

I now agree the remix is interesting, the original is unlistenable
