Melvins Discussion / Re: how many times have you seen melvins live?
« on: March 27, 2016, 04:26:16 PM »
I've lost track but would estimate I am somewhere in the 20-30 Melvins shows range. First one was opening for Napalm Death and Neurosis at Maritime Hall in San Francisco on 4/7/99 and my most recent one was at The Ritz in San Jose on 3/19/16. If I had to pick a quick favorite, it would be the 12/29/12 performance at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco; Big Business iteration of the band, killer setlist, plus on my birthday with a solid group of friends.

There's no question that guitars are all over Tres Cabrones. Come on now. On a somewhat related tip, I'm bummed that they don't seem to play any of those tracks live.

The setlist (so far) according to Setlist.fm, as updated by us and possibly other attendees...

Eye Flys
Deuce (KISS)
Magic Pig Detective
Frosted Flake (Redd Kross)
With Yo' Heart, Not Yo Hands (Malfunkshun)
Queen
Sesame Street Meat
The Bloated Pope
The Water Glass
Revolve
Halo of Flies (Alice Cooper)

Interesting set with some serious love for Stoner Witch and a couple uncommon tunes (The Malfunkshun and Cooper covers, Magic Pig Detective). Surprised there's nothing from War Pussy (Yet.)...
They most definitely played The Decay of Lying from War Pussy and it was excellent.

Hold It In tour shirts available:

I would have definitely bought that if they had it at their recent Troubadour show. Their merch doesn't seem to last long all too often.

I'd wear it even despite the controversy...
I sure as hell do. One of my favorite shirts.

This was an ok show. It seemed Buzz was doing his job as rock god to push the show into "warp speed" with major head bobbing and pyrotechnics on the guitar and Dale was alive and playing with a fierceness of attack, but Pinkus tended to just stand there and somehow the show never got off into the  "legendary" zone. I saw this lineup play once before at Grumpy's on the Friday evening before the big outdoor 30th anniversary show. It's good. They always play some Butthole Surfer songs, they did a great GRAVEYARD at Grumpys, and they played GOING DOWN TO FLORIDA at GAMH. But I do miss Jared and Cody a bit, there was just more excitement in the room when they were in the band.  It is also tuff to follow up a bass player like Trevor Dunn,  he is in a class by himself, I am a huge Butthole Surfer fan so I can understand why the Melvins wants to merge with these players. But the trio with Jeff Pinkus seems a bit lack luster to me. Maybe it was just an off nite. King Buzzo's solo acoustic show in July at GAMH was a amazing show, wonder if they will ever release that? it was much better than the disc. the opening act Le Butcherettes killed it
Are they officially not in the band now? If so....major bummer. Most of my favorite Melvins shows where with that formation (and I've seen them a ton in all sorts of amalgamations).

Super good show. First time seeing them in LA after seeing them tons of times in the Bay Area. Really liked the intimateness of the venue and the sound. They opened with Pigs of the Roman Empire which I don't think I've ever seen them perform. Butcherettes where mother fucking bad ass as well. Wasn't expecting much and they blew me away.

I recorded the show from the side balcony, near the stage. It sounds fine; I'll upload it soon, after I master it.

Here you go:

These are the CD-quality FLAC files. For those who aren't on DIME, here's the link to the MP3 version:

Thank you very much, kind sir. Excellent sounding audio quality. Very pleased to be able to hear this in its entirety. You probably don't have video for the entire show do you?
