Melvins Album Discussion / Re: Tres Cabrones
June 07, 2015, 05:25:59 PM
Yeah!
I like City dump and Doctor mule but theother tracks are...strange. Some of them sound like that they just HAD to be on it, no matter what eventually would come out.
Freak Puke is a great album in my opinion. And, in comparision to tres cabrones, really drags the listener into the songs.
I really hope, like you, that they will make something that I can love again. I have to admit that I really like Hold it in, though

Well, after listening to it some more times I think it´s...well not that good that I thought it was after one listen.
It just....I don´t know....it just isn´t as good as Freak Puke for example. It´s mostly midtempo classicrockish stuff that doesn´t get me into the album as much as it should. I don´t say that the whole album is bad but it´s definetly not one of their best works and it could have been a lot better in my opinion.
And there´s something else that´s bugging me for quite some time. Why do every Melvins album from the BB era on sound basically the same? I really loved the double drumming sound from senile animal etc but I don´t get it why Dale has just transferred the sound to albums where he´s playing alone? I really love HAT and Bullhead for example because of their completely different sounding drums but since a senile animal they sound the same which is a real pity.. It´s the same with the guitar sound but only since everybody loves sausages. I mean I really love the cutting sound of EGC guitars but since they are on every single record after nude with boots, the sound is getting...old?

No way I would buy a tin can guitar.  IMO Buzz was born to play the Les Paul Classic.  His tone was so amazing w/ the LP and now it's a tin can POS.  Horrible, I hate it!

You are out of your mind. His guitar tone live is sick. It cuts through the room like a knife. Better than ever!

Then again one of my favorite guitar tones is Steve Albini..

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO LIKES ALBINIS GUITAR TONE

You can Tell buzz is about Ready to Kill Joe when he doesnt Come in when he is supposed to at one part of the Set and he is Just Off in space being a fuck-goof.  :o

The best part is when Buzz Busts out the ampeg Guitar for the last couple Tracks.  8)

1: when is that???

2: maybe i need some new glasses but where the hell do you see him playing an ampeg?

according to this: http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/S420
the 420 was only produced in 2010 and 2011
and after doing some research on ibanez catalogs from 1990-1994 (assuming that the spoxe dale used went away from his drumset in 97 and buzz not having his "full" afro like he has had in 93 for example), the only ibanez i found that matches everthing is this one here: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/expansion.php?cat_id=299&now=2

Melvins Discussion / Buzz´s guitars
May 01, 2015, 03:23:37 PM
Hello there,

I just read on wikipedia that Buzz is playing a Danelectro guitar in the studio sometimes.
(source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Danelectro_players)
Does someone know what Danelectro exactly he is playing?
And what about his other studio guitars?

I read that he mostly uses Fenders (for example on Stoner Witch)...

I already wrote in the tribute thread that I'll contribute two covers :)
an oven/wispy thing (i think i'll play every instrument on this) and black bock (with my brother).

I'll record the tracks in like one or two weeks (i'm currently on a school trip in bella italia)
