Finally thought of mine: Black Coffee by Black Flag.

https://www.secretserpents.com/products/altamont-the-phantom-ships-etched-split-7-pre-order
Well, Altamont covered it, and it smokes. I can't believe this one didn't sell out. If it was under the moniker "Melvins" it would have, and at quadruple the price.

Well hot damn! I think the Melvins would still wail with it. I was thinking of the synchronized vocals for the chorus!

I'm gonna have to see if I can find the Altamont cover online.

Okay cuz I was gonna say they definitely covered that one then. Buzz uses a D battery as a slide on that one

I'm sure they'll bring that one back though--easily among the heaviest in their cupboards.

Melvins Lyrics & Tabs / Playing With Teeth Question
« on: August 17, 2016, 12:53:58 PM »
The tabs I find for this are often wrong, especially if you watch Buzz play it. It seems like he takes the C from fret 3 and bringsa it up to a single string , muted noise riff on fret 10 (a string). But unlike the tabs that move you from fret 3 to fret 2 (power chord), going down from the a string 10th fret to 9th fret doesn;t sound right. Anyone know what he's doing here to make the b chord part of that riff?

Here's where you post the songs you haven't heard in a while--or ever--that you'd love to see Melvins tackle again as part of their regular setlist.

Mine at the moment:

- Manky
- A Suicide in Progress
- Evil New War God
- Cow
- Honey Bucket
- amazon
- Warhead (Venom cover)
- See How Pretty, See How Smart
- Blood Witch

Actually I was almost directly behind her during that show--and yeah I was irritated. But I still see no reason to drag her over the coals on social media.

 That whole facebook group got weird there for a few days. I mean, yeah that lady is strange and annoying, but people were piling on her for really dumb reasons too. It's like everyone smelled the weak one and tried to devour her--pretty gross. As far as I can tell, irritating social maladjustment aside, she's only trying to connect and be enthusiastic with other Melvins fans. She's not hurting anybody by merely being uncool.

I had the most fantastic night! Got to chat with Judy!!! Got to meet GiveMe45, who is a totally nice and excellent guy, somebody I hope to have the privilege of seeing again at future Melvins/Grumpy's events. I GOT TO SEE HAZE PLAY BASS FOR GAY WITCH ABORTION (which has actually been a desire of mine for what seems like forever now), and the guy totally shreds! That alone almost made my night--and after they wrapped up their set, Haze made a joke about having twenty songs on the setlist but Jesse didn't want to play them. So then I jokingly suggested he do a solo Halo of Flies reunion and he just laughed and said, "Never!"

Melvins were tight and excellent as usual. Steven is perhaps my new favorite Melvins bass player, for whatever that's worth. This trio clearly has so much fun and energy playing together. Just fantastic all around.

I think they played a shorter set than usual. No Bloated Pope. No Night Goat. Probably a few others were cut too, but the set still felt complete and natural and well-balanced.

It was also my lady friend's first time seeing the Melvins, and she loved their set--so it was extra special getting to go to a show with her so she could see my all-time favorite band.

Awesome, awesome night! I haven't seen the Melvins live since Chicago 2011, and this felt like the perfect way back. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Can't wait for next time.

One of those covers seems to depict Chauntecleer from The Nun's Priest's Tale. Am I right about this?

These look amazing, Brian. Awesome work!

Melvins Discussion / Re: Melvins Videos Thread (and much more)

God that song is terrible! I would never have guessed it was by Omar. No wonder Pitchfork were promoting it. Buzz is good in the video though. I'd recognise that unmistakable grey afro anywhere!!

Really terrible. How is it possible for a song to sound so high energy while also being the most lethargic thing of all time?
