Melvins Discussion / Melvins/Big Business 2006
November 14, 2005, 12:33:25 PM
Information concerning the melding of Big Business and the Melvins from an interview with Jared in Disheveled Magazine:

"We went down to L.A. in January 2005 and that ended up turning us into more permanent members of the band.

I think the reason that "Halo of Flies" was not included in the Alice Cooper box is because it is an anomaly when compared to the rest of their output (although many would argue that this reason alone warrants it's inclusion).

No, she played Joan of Arc in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.  One of many unrequited loves.

Melvins Discussion / Buzz sighting
October 24, 2005, 04:57:38 PM
From devo-obsesso's 2005 tour diary:

"Some notable faces at the Hollywood shows: Buzz of The Melvins, Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go's, and Johnny Brewton of X-Ray Book .& Novelty Co"

I wonder if Buzz hung out with Jane Wiedlin.

I happened to stumble upon the Halloween section at Target yesterday and all of their display artwork looks exactly like Mackie's.

Melvins Discussion / Big Business Update
October 10, 2005, 08:00:42 PM
I talked to Jared briefly Saturday night at the show they played with The Fucking Champs.  I congratulated him on making it into the Melvins and asked him if it was permanent.  He assured me that it was.  He said that he and Coady were asked to play on the upcoming tour but it was too short notice (they would only have two weeks to practice).  I asked him if Trevor Dunn was filling in on the upcoming dates but he didn't know.

Apparently he and Coady are moving down to L.A. in January and a tour should follow shortly thereafter.

Melvins Discussion / Re: Jellvins/Melvins Tour

So what's the deal with Big Business?  I was under the impression that the fall tour would be Big Business and the Melvins with Big Business opening the show and then staying on stage for the Melvins set.  Is Trevor playing bass instead for this short tour?

I still think that we have a fighting chance of making this happen.

Someone once told me that they saw the Melvins play an all-acoustic set at the Capitol Theater Backstage in Olympia many, many years ago...

Melvins Discussion / Melvins in Springfield

Okay, so I have been doing some research and I cannot find a good email address to blitz the Simpsons creators with.  They must have forseen such internet revolutions.

But I am not deterred.

While waiting to hear from my tech-savvy brother about the possibilities of creating a website for our cause, I found this:

"The Simpsons"
c/o Twentieth Television
Matt Groening's Office
PO Box 900
Beverly Hills, CA 90213

I think there is the potential of creating a larger impact if the creators were inundated with actual, tangible letters imploring them to put the Melvins on the show; although I do find some major setbacks to this method versus email.

The main problem is the extra effort this would take.  With a blanket email attack all one would have to do is click a button.  Getting hundreds of people to send a sealed and stamped letter involves a little more footwork.  I am willing to co-author a template letter that people could just print out, sign and drop in the mailbox.

Any other ideas???

Melvins Discussion / Melvins in Springfield

I think that it is high time that we made a concentrated effort to get the Melvins on the Simpsons.  It is Buzz's favorite TV show of all time and he practically quotes an episode every time he speaks.  If such musical institutions such as the Ramones and Sonic Youth have been on the show, it is imperative that the Melvins be on.  Maybe there could be tryouts for new bassists in Springfield.

This isn't as far-fetched an idea as it sounds.  There are numerous ways the Melvins can be indirectly associated with the Simpsons.  Matt Groening went to Evergreen in Olympia, the All Tomorrow's Parties connection....

If someone has the knowhow to create an online petition that we could submit to the show's creators and/or Fox, I would sign in an instant.

Picture a cartoon Buzz.................

Melvins Discussion / Grist for the Mill

To some this is old hat but here is yet another story of Joe being fired from the Melvins.  I found this on the All Tomorrow's Parties website.  From their bio of the band earth:

"During show with Screaming Trees the drum machine first becomes a problem , with Joe repeatedly stepping on the pedal and restarting songs half way through. Joe's dream becomes reality. He is asked to join the Melvins. He can't leave earth fast enough. Dream becomes nightmare when his bitter, money-grubbing ways do not endear him to his employers. The Melvins can him. He takes revenge by bootlegging to his employers. The Melvins can him. He takes revenge by bootlegging earth 7in's."

Hearsay? Rumors?  Conjecture?

I feel the impulse to intervene.

Buzz's solo album is wonderful in my highly esteemed opinion.  The two "songs" that you are referring to are fantastic works, particularly "Annum", a song that sounds nothing like any other in the Melvins canon.  "Porg" is an experiment that I think he pulled off (I never skip it when listening to the record) and although it's weird that a solo album ends with a song that Buzz doesn't even play on, it seems a bit fitting doesn't it?  Plus, "Skeeter" is one of the best things Dave Grohl has ever done.  If only the Foo Fighters sounded like that.

Joe's record is frankly, a mess.  It is a tedious album and the one record out of all the numerous works with MELVINS written on it that I listen to the least.  Yes, I listen to Prick more often than the Joe Preston EP.  If I am not mistaken, when they reviewed their albums at the time of Stoner Witch's release, Dale stated something to the effect that Joe really did wait until the last minute to throw his together.  He gave it a "big, fat zero".

Speaking of Mr. Crover, his solo album is the best.  It is the most cohesive and strong of the EP's.

So why quibble?

Melvins Discussion / can Buzz play drums?
June 23, 2005, 09:03:35 AM
allmusic.com incorrectly lists Buzz as a drummer on the Country Teasers' great record, Satan Is Real Again.  I assume this mistake is due to the fact that the drummer simply lists himself as King in the liner notes.
