King Buzzo & PHILM 11 Sept Rote Fabrik Zurich
« on: September 12, 2014, 03:41:17 PM »
My first visit to Rote Fabrik (or Zurich, for that matter) - loved the place. They played the "Clubraum" which, I was told is the smallest of all the venues there. Still pretty big though.
Got there early, hung with the lads for a bit and watched the soundcheck. They were all in good spirits, travelling with the small amount of gear and the lightning fast changeovers and soundchecks have made this tour "easy as pie" as Mr. Curran put it.

Gareth had a couple of the signed Beatpol posters left as well as the usual Buzzo shirts.
Posters will probably be sold out within the next show or two.

Set was standard w/ Suicide in Progress and Iggy/Mackie stories.
I stayed away from too much Youtube footage of this tour beforehand and was blown away by how good Buzz's set actually is. Opening with Boris makes a lot of sense. He has really honed this new format and even though he's new to it, the man is already close to 100 shows in since he started doing it in February. And oh lawd, you can tell. His vocals are right on and powerful as ever. As some of you have pointed out in other reviews, the minutiae of the performance really is something to behold. Buzz works a variety of different elements into his sound, from stomping the stage to accompany his (already really thick and abrasive) acoustic tone, to trimming it all the way down to barely audible harmonics. I was right upfront which made for a truly surreal experience, with Buzz playing right in our faces and me having to dodge the headstock on several occasions.

Crowd was attentive and enthused as well, which made the show all the more enjoyable. I was a bit cautious of the dude doing roundhouse kicks off the edge off the stage though. Never seen anyone get into an acoustic performance the way that dude did. More power to him, I guess.

PHILM (Dave Lombardo's new power trio) played after that. Not really my cup of tea, but it's always a pleasure to see Dave get down and boy does he still get down.

What a great setting this venue is in. The outdoor dining/boozing overlooking the lake is just the best.

oscar, we were probalbly standing right next to each other. i was 1st row just next to buzz' monitor box. i was wearing a blue, red an white jacket and a helmet shirt...
i was glad we got to hear suicide in progress, as he did not play that in judenburg.
other than that nothing to add to oscars' review.
buzz is the best!

watching lombardo go off from only 1 meter away was also a highlight of the evening.

Don't remember seeing a Helmet shirt...darn the luck. Next time then.

I stood back a bit for PHILM after the first couple songs.
