Technical problems abounded in this show. A sound tech had to come out mid song to readjust mics on Dale's kit. Buzzo went into a holding pattern on guitar and didn't look too pleased. They played a good mix of old and new as usual. Got a few compliments on my Melvins Army shirt of old.

This was an ok show. It seemed Buzz was doing his job as rock god to push the show into "warp speed" with major head bobbing and pyrotechnics on the guitar and Dale was alive and playing with a fierceness of attack, but Pinkus tended to just stand there and somehow the show never got off into the  "legendary" zone. I saw this lineup play once before at Grumpy's on the Friday evening before the big outdoor 30th anniversary show. It's good. They always play some Butthole Surfer songs, they did a great GRAVEYARD at Grumpys, and they played GOING DOWN TO FLORIDA at GAMH. But I do miss Jared and Cody a bit, there was just more excitement in the room when they were in the band.  It is also tuff to follow up a bass player like Trevor Dunn,  he is in a class by himself, I am a huge Butthole Surfer fan so I can understand why the Melvins wants to merge with these players. But the trio with Jeff Pinkus seems a bit lack luster to me. Maybe it was just an off nite. King Buzzo's solo acoustic show in July at GAMH was a amazing show, wonder if they will ever release that? it was much better than the disc. the opening act Le Butcherettes killed it

I noticed that Pinkus was a little 'uninterested' at the Seattle show.
Maybe he was stoned or something
and didn't want to mess up his bass parts.

I didn't get that vibe in Portland, but then again I wasn't exactly sober myself.
The crowd seemed really into it and was much larger than the last time they played the Roseland.
Front to end a good show.

Are they officially not in the band now? If so....major bummer. Most of my favorite Melvins shows where with that formation (and I've seen them a ton in all sorts of amalgamations).

Both parties have stated that they are still in the band. I hope we get one or two more albums and tours with Big Melvins.
