Chip butty?
Stoned? Yes. Drunk? Yes.
To hell with it, I'll try it.

They stopped serving food at the Wagon before we arrived so we did without chip butties and just drank beer. Met Der L and (later) Duffy which was great. Der L is Welsh and Birmingham were playing at home to Cardiff this evening, so it was nice to hear a Welsh accent in a Birmingham pub with a "Home Fans Only" sign on the door. We didn't know if he would be killed or not before we left.

The Institute is a 2000-capacity venue but they played in the small room which was full of around 200-300 people. Melvins has four shirts on sale and Redd Kross a couple; also there were posters from the previous two shows and signed Love & Death LPs and CDs on the merch table. It's awesome to see so much for sale at a European gig. Long may this continue.

Redd Kross killed it with their sequins and tambourine, and Dale is their drummer this tour which was obviously a bonus. Melvins enjoyed themselves enormously but stopped the set 2/3 of the way through Roman Dog Bird as a guy managed to get on stage to stage dive, slipped as he stepped off the monitor and fell face-first into the gap between the fence and the stage. Out cold for about 30 seconds. Motionless. Possibly dead. Buzz, Dale and Steve peered into the abyss until he regained consciousness and was escorted out, Buzz applauding and Steve saying, "Thank god he didn't die!"

They continued from where they left off which was the last song anyway. Lots of fun.

The Love & Death tour shirt, the punching squirrell, the red Stag owl and Restless Irritable Discontent. (I think).

I hadn't seen this merch guy before, Gareth was roadie/tech this time and was replaced by an amiable Scot at the table.

Chip butty ... Ha Ha Ha ... death is coming, eat carbs be free!

had those in Oz but they were served in a big ol' submarine bun ... place called 'em chippy rolls. At least the sub bun is alota bread to soak up the grease ... don't simple Wonder White loaf slices simply become a totally grease soaked mess ... tho I imagine that'd be the point? the charm?
