"Bringing their grimy post-punk influence to the red couch are sludge metal and grunge pioneers, (the) Melvins. Tune in this Saturday, December 9 from 10am and again that night from 12:20am on ABC."

I have no idea what this is.  :D

Those are Australian times.
The show is Rage. A guest artist will sit down for about 3-4 hours and pick their favourite videos or songs. Some get talked about. At the end they usually play a back catalogue of their videos.

Rage is an institution here in Australia. The show is shown on the ABC which is government funded so not as subject to ratings as the commercial channels. Rage has been going for a good 25 years now. Every Friday night around 11pm-12am they play the latest music videos back to back of a more alt-rock variety not usually chart topping poppy stuff. Then on Saturday nights they usually have a guest programmer where a band/artist picks their favourite 40 or so video clips of all time and then after that they show all of that band/artists videos as well. When a big name musician dies like Malcolm Young or David Bowie that Saturday nights episode will be devoted to them and they'll play all of their videos.

Aside from the videos themselves when I used to watch Rage regularly in the mid-late 90's I used to love hearing the introductions by bands where they tell stories about the next band or whatever. The intros are interspersed throughout the night every say 3-4 videos. It was also policy for about the first 20 years of Rage's existence that the intros by the bands would all be covered in a blue hue which became part of Rage's charm, no matter how big or small the band was they all looked the same and of course it would differentiate them from the actual videos themselves.

The amount of weird and crazy videos I've seen over the years on Rage that got me into bands, that was how I first heard of the Melvins seeing their Honeybucket video on Rage.

I have the full showings of the Peeping Tom and last Mike Patton one. I did have the FNM ones on VHS but the tapes got mould so couldn’t be played for me to capture. I also have the short King Buzzo one from the Helmet tour I think it was. Got a Cosmic Psychos one from around the release of the doco Blokes You Can Trust and a Steve Albini.

I used to have literally hundreds of VHS tapes full of band videos, interviews, concerts and have the Patton Rage stuff from '97 onwards. Before the internet came around I used to make up tapes for people of their favourite bands video clips and stuff I remember getting into a full blown fist fight with my brother because I refused to tape him a copy of when Dimebag from Pantera guest programmed Heavy Shift which was like a smaller condensed one hour long version of Rage on pay TV's Channel V. I had Patton guest programming that show too.

Not very often you see Buzz take a laid back position, letting Dale and Steve do the talking. Must be the most articulate band in rock, The Melvins, all three guys have their mouths and brains with them.

I disagree. I think you see it fairly often with him in interviews. To me he looks like he can't be bothered with it there.

That's true Bigval, I remember having downloaded and watched a lot of music videos with the Rage logo at the beginning. Probably the first music videos that you could find on the internet with a decent quality and waaaaaaayyyyy back before YouTube were ripped from that show.

ELECTRIC WIZARD See You In Hell (Spinefarm/Caroline)
That must have been Dale's pick. I remember an interview a couple of years ago where Buzz said he didn't know who they were and Dale told him "you wouldn't like them".
