Buzzo has some...odd views
« on: June 04, 2020, 01:42:20 AM »
I find his interviews often entertaining and insightful, but at the same time, he opines on things that make him seem ..well...here's some examples

'Antibiotics, anything. Why should I have to have a fucking prescription for that? It doesn't make any sense. '

Do I need to explain what a superbug is? lol

He also made some pretty ignorant remarks about Covid-19 in a radio interview, but that was early-ish on. Basically anything involving science he should not be speaking about. He appears to have no education whatsoever in that area.

He has called Thomas Sowell the 'greatest philosopher'. Sowell just tweeted out that racism only exists bc politicians are using it to get votes (only an extremely sheltered person could believe that). Sowell -and back we are to science- has also said some insanely ignorant shit about climate change.

He really should stay in his lane and just discuss music and other creative pursuits, and the music business. He has plenty of non-ignorant things to say about them.

Still Buzz comes across as one of the most intelligent and articulate artists in interviews. Maybe he touches subjects now and then that he doesn`t
have enough know how on, like most living and breathing person on the planet, but both he and us are still entitled to have an opinion on different subjects. And the fact that he likes Sowells ideas, doesn`t necessarily mean that he supports everything. And if so, so what? Buzz has said many times that you should never listen to a musician and by that he also means himself. And I guess also that if you excamine the interviews of any artist or band on this planet, I`m sure you can find stuff that are just as shocking as what Buzz has lifted of his chest.

The only thing  that could turn me away from the band and Buzz, is that they had gone Kid Rock and supported the clown in the White House. As long as Buzz keeps it to himself, he can mean and believe anything on that subject and I`m certain he understands that that would be the dumbest he could ever do, to express support for the Beast, cause then he would alienate a lot of fans in a blink.

Btw, a strange first post from a new or perhaps old member, I wonder what the intentions are.

Didn't read the article but if he's talking about antobiotics being overused. I believe he is right.

Also...pretty funny that what, there's like 300 million American's and they can't find anyone to go up against Trump?
The country itself is more messed up than Buzz's opinion.

There's several thoughts and conflicts I have here so excuse the scatterbrained post:

I remember posting something a few weeks back on Facebook that was Melvins related and I had someone call out stating that Buzz loved Fox News and was a diehard Trump supporter. I could make this a left vs. right statement but it's clear in regards to this individual from history that he doesn't really champion or build up anyone. For the record I deleted the comment as I knew debating was a waste of time. Digging into my own research of the Melvins I think he literally said this because he showed up on Red Eye a few times and possibly stated that he's a libertarian. But I never researched Thomas Powell either so that's on me.

But Buzz is a frank person and he's right on the money that, along with the "you should never listen to a musician" that "nothing will make you a cynic faster than the music business". It honestly sparks up the ideals of "separating the man from the music" and "the integrity of music fans". Not to brush away the issue or the discussion by any means but I can name a few musicians that have done far worse that people have given a hall pass like it's nothing because they liked their music.

Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying trying to hire a hitman to murder his wife.
Blake Judd of Nachtmystium being a known scam artist and sociopath.
Burzum for murder, church burning and racism (Though that last viewpoint applies to a fair bit of the Norwegian black metal scene)
The dudes from Eagles of Death Metal and Black Magic Flower Power who flipped their shit because some children chose to speak out over mass shootings and not being sociopaths about people their age dying.
Bobby Liebling of Pentagram with his years of abuse towards bandmates, his wife and even his own mother, the last of which was documented and on criminal record.
Michael Gira of Swans basically admitting to raping a woman but dismissing it as "subconscious sex" as if people use a phrase like that on a normal basis.
Buju Banton writing a song entitled "Boom Bye Bye" which was openly about wishing death on gay people (And actually won a Grammy.).

Then you have weird shit like the Foo Fighters participating in an AIDS denial group and one of the members being an anti-vaxxer or easy favorites like Phil Anselmo, Mike Love, Ted Nugent, Jerry Lee Lewis, Skrewdriver, Trapt, Ryan Adams, Kanye West and so much more. We could name names all day but the point it the minute some of these names take a plane to Europe to go to some German festival it's like the controversies magically go away. People will get a hall pass because they wrote a few cool songs.

Lastly the other guy who ran Riffipedia changed the profile picture to black in solidarity to a surprising amount of laugh reacts (And even a couple inflammatory comments) but I've also noticed that nearly every band I saw who's made statements on BLM on Instagram have had maybe 3 or 4 people commenting negatively at the most. If that's what you're losing it's not really a loss unless you're full-blown desperate for a "likes" or "followers" number.

A lot of people will dismiss issues of musicians and just "keep it about the music, man" because music fans and some musicians, honestly, don't really like to be challenged and like to keep their heads in the sand about things. But it's still gotta hurt and suck to a degree when some folks find out a musician they admired and looked up too may well be a piece of shit. The whole shitshow leading up to Time To Die honestly soured Electric Wizard on me for years.

In closing Buzz refusing antibiotics and being fond of an obscure scholar seems tame by comparison. Antibiotics aren't a guaranteed fix for some people and even as sarcastic as he gets he isn't hateful towards anyone as far as I can tell.

Buzz has said some things I disagree with- but, really, is there ANY person on earth that agrees on everything with you? (and even that might be a bad thing). Buzz says some weird things (and some great things, too) but it's good to have ideas challenged, I think. Also, weird0/great artists often say weird things. It comes with the territory. I'd rather have Buzz say things about Medicine companies and taxes that I disagree with and make great art, than an echo chamber or someone who isn't thinking on his or her own. It can be a little frustrating at times, I agree, but, hey it's the tradeoff and it is worth it.

No one seems to be the article (Razor at least made that disclaimer) that was cited. He said all drugs should be legal. He has a problem w/prescriptions not antibiotics.

I agree if he means heroin and other narcotic drugs. Make it legal and take away the criminality that follows. It's a different matter with prescription drugs, antidepressiva, antipsychotic medication, on this area you need a doctor supervising it. Antibiotics should not be prescription free, due to the danger o
of antbiotics resistance.

Then you don't agree w/Buzzo's views but that's fine. I'm going to comment on the original post and I noticed you also questioned this first-time poster's intentions. He does make vague points and the only claim he leaves a source has a misleading quote pulled. Anyway, I think it's a weird culture where everybody thinks people they don't agree w/aren't allowed to express their opinions.

Guilt-by-association bullshit, the hallmark of the deranged left. I hope someone pointed out to this clown that if appearing on RedEye makes Buzz a Trump fan, then so are Jello, Gibby and Oderus. Moreover, even if they were Trump fans, so what? This idea that an artist should be "canceled" for not voting for the right party is, IMO, how you end up with Trump in the first place.

Yeah he's pretty far left and brimming with snark. I am a registered democrat but not to the extreme as implied.

He is right that prescriptions are a violation of rights. But democracy is not anarchy. We surrender rights for the greater good all the time. It's ok for Buzz to be a contrarian libertarian. I appreciate his viewpoints even when I disagree.

Buzz is very Libertarian.

Jimi Hendrix beat one of his girlfriends with a telephone.
Frank Zappa fucked many groupies with a wife and kids at home.
Miles Davis was a pimp.
Chuck Berry filmed women peeing without their consent.
James Brown did so much bad shit you can barely keep track.
Roy Estrada (of Captain Beefhear and Zappa fame) is a pedophile.
Dave Holland (Judas Priest drummer) was a pedophile.
Hell, for that matter, a majority of the touring rock stars of the late 60's through the 80's had their fair share of underage groupie escapades.

Buzz is very Libertarian. I may not agree with all of his politics, but then, I also don't agree with all of Jello Biafra's politics either. At least he ain't Ted Nugent!

Well, you can read what he says about trump in the same interview I linked. He says he doesn't support him, but that there's no difference whatsoever between him and his opponent and that trump can't make things worse. Subsequent events have laid waste to that

As far as my intentions? Who gives a shit? This is a melvins forum. Buzzo makes public statements on topics, he's open to criticism of them. Particularly since I've bought many Melvins releases for many years, I feel fine in criticizing someone I have financially supported.

No, no...he is saying the opposite. He is saying he has no idea why antibiotics need a prescription. Completely oblivious.

He didn't say he refuses antibiotics. He said he doesn't understand why you need a prescription for them. He says it 'makes no sense'. That's really fucking ignorant .  Overuse of antibiotics causes harm not just to the person doing it, but to others.
