The Melvins continue to challenge the notions of rock, one album and member at a time

The Melvins have been making music for nearly three decades now, and in that time have burrowed into a thoroughly enigmatic niche creating rampantly sludgy and wonderfully odd melodies coupled with stories. A style that has been labeled everything from prototypical stoner rock to alt metal, and the obligatory grunge tag just to name a few. But as prolific as the Melvins have been for over two decades now, it doesn

Quotethe two has seen additional members come and go like a winter storm, the most notable being punk rock superhero Jello Biafra.

Um, Jello was never meant to be a permenant member.   That's like saying Lustmord was a brief member of the Melvins.  Good read though.

The whole payola thing is pretty funny to me. I suppose I could see a song like Revolve maybe being pretty popular if money was put behind it but I don't see a majority of their music hitting a wider audience, at least not the size of a band like Stone Temple Pilots. Granted, the Melvins are WAY better than STP ever was, but again, I don't see their music appealing to a majority of those fans, especially their more challenging work like POTRE and COD.
Hail, not fail.
PS:  fuck him.

You know, when I read the part where Dale is saying that he and Buzz love this lineup with Coady and Jared but that he does not deny the history they have had with previous bass players, I have to say that if this lineup did not work out, it would be upsetting because you would have to be utterly deaf to not hear how well they mesh together. It's as if Big Business was tailor made to fit right in with the Melvins. I love the other stuff with the other bass players but this lineup has so much going for it.

Vcavallo

that was a good read. this guy had a really good handle on the melvins.  the beginning is an accurate history as well as spot-on summary of the band's "character".
does anyone know if brian adds these things to the wiki or if we should do it?
