Love the Hank 3 songs.  Especially loved seeing him open for Melvins with Dale playing drums on the last part of the set.

I quite like that. I think they have done a similar thing with 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' - covered it but changed it also. Slowed it down and gave it some depth.

Hank III can make a living just standing on stages in casinos imitating his grandfather, but instead he chose to make the music he wants to make. Seems genuine to me.

There's this whole weird conspiracy theory I keep hearing from country elitists (yes, there is such a thing) that he's actually just some guy who happens to strongly resemble the original Hank and was packaged as his grandson by record labels as a wrestling-style gimmick because he's allegedly too untalented for people to care about otherwise. Had a few insist that it's "open, documented knowledge" that he's not related to the elder Hanks in any way, but I've never actually seen or read any of it if it exists. I'd say breaking out into whatever the heck kind of music he feels like making is a good way for him to go though. He's talented. I would have loved seeing him with the Melvins.

I would love a full album and tour with Hank III and Henry Bogdan. i'm not a Hank III superfan, but I think they could really pull it off and make it fun and interesting.

*so... is Bocephus in on this conspiracy?  :-k

Star Spangled Banner
Timothy Leary Lives
Tie My Pecker To A Tree
99 Bottles Of Beer
You're In The Army Now
Shaving Cream
Take Me Out To The Ball Game

No way Scooba deserves to be with the above.

The ones above are well...I wonder if the Buzz of '85 would imagine himself one day releasing these.....

Exactly. I had a listen to 'Basses Loaded' yesteday and as much as i enjoyed it on one level i thought to myself "this isn't cool" and it isn't! The Melvins of now are not the Melvins of the early days. They might of had a sense of humour early on with their music too but the albums didn't reflect that. The records were well put together. By the time they got to 'Prick' or 'Stag' things were getting a bit more kooky. Now however the quirky seems overloaded. There will be a "traditional" Melvins sounding song and then the very next track usually disrupts that - something that makes fun of itself. I can enjoy compiling a record like that to some degree, i admire the flip from one to the other but it certainly isn't cool. It just comes off as a joke.

The only reason I'm defending anything the Melvins do is I'm at work bored and I have Basses Loaded on constant rotation in my vehicle right now .

Basses Loaded is a great album. There's outstanding songs and even the songs you dislike fit in the context. Of course, Basses Loaded itself is a pun on the Baseball term 'bases loaded' and TMOTTBG fits in perfectly at the end. It also happens to be one of the most beautiful renditions of the song you will hear. Shaving Cream and I'm all Fucked Up mash-up is funny as hell, highlights Crover on bass who is the bands drummer! This line up is supposed to have some tongue in cheek humor.

 O:)

Call me overly serious, but do you think the majority of music fans intentionally seek out music that is funny?

I think i've come to a point with Melvins now where im not really too bothered what they do. I've distanced myself from them as a fan. In fact i wouldn't really call myself a fan of the band nowadays. More truthfully an interested observer. The most telling thing for myself is that if i heard these releases from a new or unknown band i wouldn't care about them at all. I certainly wouldn't be buying them and i think that's the next step i need to take. To actively stop buying these modern, kinda poor Melvins albums.

As long as the Melvins continue, there will be objectively, lets say, "lesser" Melvins songs to add and discuss!
