It's in drop C-or Buzz's version of drop C-he tunes the two low strings to C and G, and keeps the rest in normal tuning

Damn, nice vinyl and back cover, although the cover looks a little bit weird, perhaps a bigger picture would have been better since Buzz loves to use a lot of space for the artwork.

For those of you going to the show on March 8th in Kansas City, Windhand was just added to do a free midnight show following Buzz. If you haven't seen them, this is a great time to do so.
So I just got to sit down and listen to the 10". Here's my review...
If I had to review this record with one simple statement it would be, "I love the sound of that Buzz", which can take on several meanings. The first is the slight buzz of the strings hitting the frets that you can hear if you listen closely to a single guitar track. The reason for this is that buzz rips it the same as he would an electric guitar! Buzz is never a man to hold back, he always brings it no matter what case. The second meaning to my statement is the haunting sound of Osborne's voice. It has always been a key element in why I like the Melvins and continues to be so even more on this release. Toshi also did a masterful job on production doubling up the guitars and adding great effects to the vocals. The bottom line is that if you like Buzz you will like this record.Even though its acoustic, it still goes to 11.
I hope there's copies left by the time he's in Louisville/Indy cos' that sounds incredible!

Geniunely melancholic, I really dig it. Buzz doesn't write that many melancholic songs, but when he does, they're beautiful. I hope there's more songs like this on the upcoming CD, but even if there's not, this one is a keeper.

Well, I've just taken the time-out to watch the YouTube vids from Buzz's lil' tour. In my honest opinion, he should keep his day-job. This will never replace Melvins. Buzz would do well to study some acoustic guitar from a master like Jimmy Page. It wasn't easy for Mr. Page to transition to acoustic, but he worked really hard at it. Buzz is basically playing electric on an acoustic guitar. Don't get me wrong; it's not worthless. I love even Buzz's most meager efforts because they are honest. He lacks a certain pretense in even his greatest endeavors. Gawd bless his pointed little head!!

If it powers on, and youre not getting sound-
Check Switches and pots for dust, If thats not it, Open it up...Look for any broken Connection in the boards or a loose Wire somewhere..if that yeilds no shorts, Then the next step is check the FUSES!!! make sure they arent dead, Make sure the housing clips that hold the fuses in place are not corroded or oxidized and they are making solid connection with the Fuse.
If youre getting power, and sound, but the volume is low or distorted-
The cause could be a bad component, see if you can spot any resistors or caps that look burnt or are heating up too much.
IF thats not it, take a pic of the inside of it and I might be able to show it to one of the pros at www.tapeheads.net (http://www.tapeheads.net)
they can get you going if I cannot.

Its more than likely Dust rather than a bad component, but I could be wrong...I would have to hear the type of Distortion your picking up to determine if its dust or a bad resistor.
My Sony amp would do that from time to time for no reason when it powers on, just give me hum. It means current is going somewhere it shouldnt be going. it would be moody due to cold more than anything else.
I will ask a fellow Tapehead what to check first. Standard operating procedure.

Why must one always compare this and that? This is a mini-project, a test or experiment, Buzz & co do whatever they want to. I would also hate if this came in the way of the day job, but it doesn`t. And economically it`s pretty wise of Buzz, he brings only his name and guitar, the logistics are to a minimum, he knows people will pay to see him and they do, I`m sure he can have a very good margin on the plus-side on this tour/project. And most important, there is no sign of getting tired of touring it seems, many bands rest for years, we are lucky to not be in that situation. PS! I think critique like that from Yanayaya must be tolerated and not erased by someone grumpy with the power. Yes to freedom of speech!

It's sort of like in the old days, when they used to release a single prior to the record. It's not even really a release. It's a release, but not like a regular release. There's 500 of 'em, none of 'em go to stores, and the only way you can buy it is either online through us or from me at a show. That's it. So, to call it a release, it's like, "Well, kinda ... "
We've done this in the past, and then we've had people go, "This stuff was already put out." I'm like, "Well, I don't consider 500 of them being put out a fair representation of it being released!"
Not a lot of people put out 10-inches anymore.
Well, the reason was because we couldn't fit all the songs onto a 7-inch. We could put it on a 12-inch, but it would be a fast-spinning 12-inch, plus I think 10-inches are kinda cool. This one has really crazy vinyl. I think the ones we'll have will be red, white and blue vinyl - striped, like my guitar - and then, a hand silk-screened cover.
How representative is "Dark Brown Teeth" of the entire CD that will be coming out in June?
Well, you know ... it's me with an acoustic guitar, so you really have to dig to get a wide variety out of it, and I think I did it. I guess it's as normal as any record we've ever put out. I don't know what you'd consider us: ambient, noisy, loud, calm? I think Kevin Rutmanis put it best when we released that one record: Hostile. Ambient. Takeover. That pretty much explains it.
Since you're touring solo, are you going to be playing exclusively from the upcoming solo record or will you be digging into the Melvins' back catalog as well?
I'm going to do a combination of both. I wrote all of the material so, y'know ... My wife says the acoustic stuff sounds like the Melvins. I mean, any of the songs I do on acoustic on this record, we could easily translate into the full band, y'know?
Is it easy to translate everything from the full band back into acoustic?
Yeah, relatively. I mean, some songs won't work, like "The Waterglass," off of our Bride Screamed Murder album, which is mostly drumming. That'd be hard for me to replicate, you know? But I could probably do some version of it. Some songs work better than others, but it's not like I can't do it. I can certainly do it.
Are there any songs you're finding challenging to interpret acoustically or did most of these songs start out that way?
Some of them started out acoustically, to begin with, then went to the full band. I mean, I've always played an acoustic guitar - it's nothing new. I started out on acoustic guitar when I first started playin'. The first time I ever did anything acoustic was, I think, on the Bootlicker record, a little bit.
But it's not like I never have, so it's not a massive challenge. Not at all. I'll figure out a way. I'm not too precious with the way things are on records, so if we're having trouble playing it that way live, we'll just change it. Nobody cares. I don't care, y'know? I like it when bands do that kind of stuff - it still sounds good. A live experience is different from the record. It should be.
Most songs are written to be played onstage. Some are written and we just never played them onstage. I don't know why. We've played whole albums - it's not hard. If you can't play it the way it was on the record, you figure out a way to make it work.
At times, you've been kind of a polarizing figure.
I'm sure that, just walking down the street, there are people who wonder why I'm not in jail. I've said some things that people find to be so offensive that they wish the absolute wost thing that could possibly happen to me, and all I've ever talked about is music. That's weird.
It seems that it's almost taboo for musicians to talk about other musicians in any way other than vague hypotheticals.

Well, I did this article recently that caused a lot of "fervor," where I said, "Bands that blew it," and I specifically said at the beginning of it that these are bands that I like. That I think are good, y'know? But at some point in their career, they blew it for one reason or another. Like, Jimi Hendrix blew it by dying by overdosing on drugs.
Metallica? I like their first album a great deal. But I don't like what they are doing now. All that shit, on and on, and people just lose their minds: "How dare you?!"

Its different for him and the audience to be rocking out solo. not to mention there is a pretty unique fan base and Honestly I think its very rewarding fo Buzz, Its always been a Treat to watch.
Like Zappa said in baby snakes about a brand new one...Buzz has new material so I think for him to play and sing it is like the same experience the audience is getting too.
Im dissapointed I couldnt catch a show but I guess I will wait like so many others and buy it when it comes my way.

I had never caught that before. The whole song is about being controlled by this other presence. Namely, dope, to my ears.

probably Ipecac, yes. There will be more tour and more tour-only vinyl (not the 10" that just sold out on tour) as well.

Los Angeles, April 2, 2014 - Melvins' front man Buzz Osborne has confirmed a seven-week U.S. tour, which kicks off June 10 at The Casbah in San Diego.
Osborne previously announced the release of his first solo, acoustic release, This Machine Kills Artists, which is set for a June 3 release via Ipecac Recordings. Its definitely not the worst part of Detroit, but it's still not great. The venue kinda sucks too. It's always hot as shit in the place and the ventilation is horrible. You should drive the extra two hours to Grand Rapids to the Pyramid Scheme. It's one of my favorite places to see a show. Great area, tons of kickass restaurants, and more breweries than you can handle.

smalls is not downtown. it's in an ethnic neighborhood. I wouldn't say I feel 100% safe and completely comfortable wandering around in Hamtramck. but at the same time I have been to Smalls more than a dozen times and never had a single issue. it's fairly easy on/off the highway as well.
also... IMO Smalls is more personal. yes it's hot and crowded normally. but the room where bands play is roughly the size of a 2 car garage.
plus.. small's is where you are much more likely to spot a banana.

If I were there I'd take you to "hamtrammy Disneyland". It's off the map- hidden in a random alley. (On an old polish mans roof and yard!)
And for the record it's not considered a part of Detroit - it's an island inside of the city. A world of its own. Flutter I vote you go to that show over GR. Bet acoustic would sound good in there.

I'm with you on the GR love. it's probably an all around safer atmosphere. plus the eating/drinking options are alot better. at least when refering to Smalls as the comparison. there's a qwik-e-mart across the street from Smalls and a sketchly looking ice cream shop that I wouldn't go near about a block away. and other than that... houses. but Smalls has grit. The Pyramid Scheme and most other GR venue's have a high hipster factor. Small's just feels more like home to me. I'm scum like that.
not to mention... from my house: GR: 2 1/2 hours of 2 lane shit drive at 2 am as you dodge deer and possums.
Detroit: 1 1/2 hours full tilt 75 mph highway drive well lit.
Smalls does have the Polish Village Cafe, and Polonia not too far away from Smalls that are both excellent places to eat. And there is a bar right next to Smalls called "Bar". Every time I go in there it's like the record skips because it is always filled with Polish immigrant regulars that don't seem to take to strangers to well. It's one of the few places you can smoke cigarettes inside though. Those guys don't give a shit about the statewide indoor smoking ban :lol:
But kinda like you glen as far as travel goes, I choose GR because it is only about a 50 minute drive for me. Whereas Smalls is close to a two hour drive.

Years back myself and two friends went to smalls to see the Melvins. I was an idiot and didn't get a ticket in advance. Sitting outside before the show, sulking, some guy comes up to me and asks if I needed an extra. Thank goodness! I could have hugged him - think I did, actually. Anyway, he only had two tickets, so one friend stayed back and sat in the car. That poor bastard-I felt so terrible. He's from the burbs and that was his first visit to hamtramck, too. He didn't even want to leave the vehicle to use the bathroom so he pissed in a beer bottle.
Oh. There's a great Bollywood video store full of weird stuff and porn on VHS across the street that I highly recommend. I think it's called KING VIDEO.

Yeah, there in person it was LOUD. In my videos I was way in the back because it was so loud. Could also be that we were basically enclosed in a metal box. They had a metal fence all the way around.

Hammy ain't that bad. Yeah, kinda sketchy seeming maybe, maybe not; maybe more salt of the earth I'd say? I donno, not like I really hang for too long ... roll up close-ish to show, hang a bit, show, hang and shoot shits for a few after curtains, split ... I've never had a problem of any kind and never felt intimidated or freaked out at all. Never seen the "disneyland" but have cruised 'bout the neighbourhood a fair bit in order to burn some pre-show and post-show doobies and whatnot ... never any hassles. Small's isn't the only place I've seen shows in Hamtramck over the years and yeah I've never had anything but good times.

Yup, Smalls' is hot, crammed, and stuffy ... but as Glen says' "it's got grit" ... it's fine by me ... small, easy going, always sounds good in there and Melvins always seem to pull a real hot shit show there ... always seems they're diggin' it and having fun ... don't dig Smalls' as much as St. Andrew's (which also got grit) but yeah it's probably my second fave place outta all the places I've seen shows the last 10 or so years in Motown.
I've been to a few shows in GR over the years (never the one Jozzy mentioned) but yeah, Detroit's closer and an easier drive and more fun.

Anyways, I've actually seen Bone Thugs live and that's why I made the joke about them playing at like 3am.
The show I saw started 90 minutes late, had seven opening acts that went roughly 10-15 minutes apiece and closed with them playing at midnight to like 12:55. Not to mention they're one of the most unstable bands ever, with them being on-off on all five members playing together. Looking back it was a pretty fun show but all the while ridiculous in retrospect.

ah, beautiful!!! lucky you. i've seen the melvins twice at grumpy's in minne., love the little shows there. my friend and i are too lazy this time to drive the extra 3-4 hours both ways, and some time constraints, have to double check but i believe buzz is playing the aquarium in fargo. saw the melvins there 2 years ago (same show?) and it kicked all kinds of ass.
Pretty awesome that Dax is opening for him in NO. Anyone going to that show should definitely show up early to check him out.

This was my first trip to the WoW Hall myself. Very laid back venue, with a nice staff. Big square room. It sounded great from my POV, which was right at the stage on the right hand side.
Buzz was fantastic. Played a good mix of Melvins and solo stuff. He has added quite a few more of the solo songs to the set, which I was glad to hear. Telling a different story this time around too, this one involving Patton. He played about 70 minutes I think.

Has King Buzzo gone soft?
Nope.
"I can't think of any punk who's put on an acoustic and hasn't just tried to sound like James Taylor," he says. "No thanks."
Made entirely on an original red, white and blue Buck Owens American guitar — one of eight in existence, according to Osborne — the 17-track set, however sparse, simmers with clenched-teeth aggression to satisfy headbangers everywhere.
The brooding, minor-key "Rough Democracy" and "Instrument of God," for instance, could easily translate to an electric and become Melvins songs.
But coming from an artist whose music few would call pretty, material like the raga-tinged "How I Became Offensive" also shows surprising poise, leaving room for subtleties in Osborne's playing sure to be lost at 300 watts.
Solo touring, says the 50-year-old rocker, offers respite from decades spent lugging back-breaking amplifiers around the world.
"It's just me and one other person — my sound guy and road manager. I drive the van, which is great because I love driving, hate flying and hate buses. To me, traveling by bus is like climbing into a closet and watching 'Das Boot.'"
Come fall, he'll hook back up with drummer Dale Crover for the next Melvins record, "Hold It In."
Does Crover, or any other band member, ever join him on the links?
"Not one person from the music world has ever come with — as if I could get a rock'n'roller up at four in the morning to play golf — but that's fine," he answered. "I have way too much going on to sit around waiting for tee time at two in the afternoon."

In December, Melvins drummer Dale Crover performed with Honky, the local trio led by the Surfers' favored bassist Jeff Pinkus. Not long afterward, he met with Crover and Melvins singer/guitarist Buzz Osborne in L.A. for some writing and recording. The session, engineered by Big Business/Melvins wingman Toshi Kasai, yielded four songs, two written and sung by Pinkus. Titled "Pist Pistoferson" and "AM Radio Head," they reined the sludge vets into Pinkus' world of "big stupid rock songs." The other two tunes, penned by Osborne, utilize the cryptic tunings and oozing riffage that remain distinctly Melvins. "My songwriting is so much more structured than theirs," laughs Pinkus. "I write in a rock way whereas Buzz comes up with riffs so intricate that we'd have to remind ourselves what we did last practice. That's probably why they want me as a bass player, because I can remember his parts when he can't!" Pinkus and Osborne even did a little role reversal, switching off guitar and bass duties on one song. The EP, titled Pinkus, comes out on AmRep this spring. King Buzzo: ,,Under The Skin" mit Scarlett Johansson fand ich toll.
MusikBlog: Der hat ´ne prima surreale Atmosphäre. Erinnert mich ein bisschen an die guten Tage von David Lynch. Schon die Doku über Jodorowsky´s ,,Dune" gesehen?
King Buzzo: Leider noch nicht. Mein Lieblings-Jodo-Film ist ,,Holy Mountain".

King Buzzo: Den ganzen jungen Futzies an den Filmhochschulen sollte man ,,Holy Mountain" zeigen. Damit die wissen, wo der Hammer hängt.

King Buzzo: ,,Gravity" hatte schönes 3D. ,,The Raid" war sehr gut.
MusikBlog: Die Action-Szenen sind fantastisch. Voll auf die zwölf.

Dave: Hat so ein Typ aus Wales in Indonesien gedreht.

Kürzlich in Köln. King Buzzo von den Melvins gastiert solo mit Akustik-Klampfe im altehrwürdigen Gebäude 9. Auf der berüchtigten ,,schäl sick", der ,,falschen" Rheinseite. King Buzzo: Ein Phänomen. Seit über 30 Jahren mit dem Melvins am Start. Eine einzigartige Klopper-Kapelle. Die Melvins und Buzzo sind ihre eigene Nische. All der Schubladen-Quark wie Doom, Sludge, Grunge, Post Rock, Stoner Rock, Alternative Metal oder Avantgarde perlt an ihnen ab wie Haferbrei an einer norwegischen Holzkapelle. Ob Kurt Cobain, Mike Patton, Jello Biafra, Soundgarden oder Mudhoney: Ihre Verflechtungen in der Rock-Geschichte sind eine Wissenschaft für sich. Und auch solo zeigt King Buzzo, wie viel Schaden man mit einer einzigen Akustik-Gitarre, einem Mikro, einem Verstärker und einem festen Paar Stiefel anrichten kann. Der Mann mit der bananenbaum-artigen Großraum-Tolle drischt die Songs nur so runter. Spielfreude ahoi! Ob Material vom aktuellen Solo-Knüller ,,This Machine Kills Artists" oder unplugged Versionen alter Melvins-Wetzer wie ,,Boris": Das Resultat ist verheerend knorke. King Buzzo: Moment, gleich hab ich´s. Du bist der Sänger von NoNoYesNo?
MusikBlog: Knapp daneben. Ich war der TV-Heini von Wah Wah. Viva Zwei. Wir haben zusammen ,,Rock Squad" gedreht. Da war Mark Deutrom noch in der Band.
King Buzzo: Richtig! Wah Wah! Das ist ja schon ewig her.
MusikBlog: Wir sind uns tatsächlich das erste Mal 1990 über den Weg gelaufen. Ich hab Dich damals irgendwie überreden können, dass ihr mich im Tourbus von San Francisco nach LA mitnehmt!
King Buzzo: Ach, ja...
MusikBlog: Ich war riesiger Melvins-Fan. Und konnte mein Glück kaum fassen. Aber beinah wär´s für mich schief gelaufen. Wir sind an diesem Vergnügungs-Park in LA vorbeigefahren, wo Kiss ihren Film ,,Attack Of The Phantoms" gedreht haben. Und ich Blödi posaune raus, wie doof ich den Streifen fand. Und Du als großer Kiss-Fan total ernst: ,,Raus aus dem Bus"!
King Buzzo (lacht sich kaputt): Ja, das war lustig!
MusikBlog: Als ihr vor ein paar Jährchen in Köln gespielt habt, fand gleichzeitig dieses großes Fest von ,,Sendung mit der Maus" statt. Und Du: ,,Wieso verehren die hier alle diese hässliche Ratte?!"
King Buzzo: Die war wirklich potthässlich!
MusikBlog: Jedenfalls lange nicht gesehen. Wie läuft die Tour?
King Buzzo: Tour läuft gut. Wir waren bis vor kurzem in Australien. Und haben deshalb noch ein bisschen Jetlag in den Knochen. Nach unserer inneren Uhr ist´s jetzt ungefähr 3 Uhr nachts.
