Quote from: dissonance19About 4 yrs ago, I saw the Melvins open up for Tool here in Tampa and I have yet to find a set list with what songs they played. But there was this one song that stood out. Not that they all didn't stand out but this one was great. It was based on the drums with a repeating drum beat for awhile and went on for a LONG time. I believe Buzzo sang and it had guitar in it eventually but I cannot find out what this song is. I wish I could remember more about it. It seemed like it went on for 8-10 mins. Does anyone have ANY idea what this song is and what album it's on? Tnanks.

I was at this show as well... Eye Flys maybe?

It is their diversity.

Every band bores me that only sticks to one style of song, one type of sound, and tries nothing unique. The Melvins have such variety it keeps me interested. I know that if I buy their next offering I will be surprised in some way.

Did any of you other "small type reading pinhead" notice the fine print on the Trilogy?

It's pretty funny, for a variety of reasons...

Melvins Discussion / The Trilogy

Quote from: wonk-eyethis whole trilogy business stinks of messianic subtext and otherwise subversively encrypted religious themes

Wow! d00d that brings up an interesting story!

One time, while I was dropping acid and staring real hard at my Timothy Leary poster, I found myself in another dimension of the mind. Let's call it the 9th Dimension, just for shits and giggles. Anyway, while there, I stumbled into my parents room, cause that is where they keep my Melvins CD's (they take them away from me as punishment when I forget to go to work) (which happens a lot... whoa). I grabbed the first three on top of the pile (I have a lot of Melvins CD's), THE FIRST THREE WERE THE THE MAGGOT, THE BOOTLICKER AND THE CRYBABY... THE TRILOGY....THE FIRST THREE!! What are the god damn odds of that? (I can only explain this amazing coincidence by the fact that I was inhabiting the 9th at the time) I looked at the back of the CD jacket (which is the front in this case, WEIRD) and some weird shit started to happen... The letters of the songs started to rearrange themselves......

As I looked at Maggot.... this is what I saw....

the  Green manalishi (with the two pronged crown)
the hOrn bearer
    juDy...

yeah that's right "GOD"

Next, I looked at the Bootlicker... this is what I saw

                            Jew boy flower head
                          wE we
                    black Santa
                            Up the dumper
mary lady bobby kinS

yeah that's right "JESUS" (jew boy flower head!)

Next, I looked at the Crybaby... this is what I saw

ramblin' man - Hank williams III, henry bogdan (helmet)
blOckbuster - david yow (jesus lizard)
                         spineLess - skeleton key
drY drunk - david yow, godzik pink

                                G.i.joe - mike patton
okie from muskogee - Hank williams III, henry bogdan
                            divOrced - tool
mine iS no disgrace - foetus
smells like Teen spirit - leif garrett

Yeah, that's right "HOLY GHOST"... fucking Trilogoy man!

I really should sent this shit to the Toolband website, so they can spank it hard...

Audience participation of that nature is what it's all about man, go for it.

To this day the best show I've ever been to was Rush, simply because the connection between the audience and band was so rich. Singing along was a big part of that connection.

I think nothing could be more rewarding, more energizing, more magical to an artist during a live show than to receive that kind of appreciation and connection with an audience.

Sing on Big Daddy, Sing ON

Unfortunately I've only seen the Melvins once, when they opened for Tool, so I've yet to see what kind of atmosphere exists at one of their "real" shows. Hopefully it's not a bunch of degenerates white power stomping, punching each other, and spilling beer...

Melvins Discussion / Yiggity Yah yah!
March 12, 2004, 05:56:54 PM
Whoa! Yiggity Yiggity Yah Yah!

Perhaps this will seem like an under-analysis to some of you trip-ticks, but I always saw the trilogy as an expression of The Melvins "up to" that point.

Briefly, the Maggot expresses their heavier side (with whatever deep connotations you can construct with that vague description) , the Bootlicker expresses their lighter side (" "), and I see The Crybaby as an expression of the fact that music, ideas, developments in general, etc., etc. are always a collaboration of some sort in some way.

I think the trilogy was a good way for them to sum up themselves thus far, while taking themselves further... a good way to end the millenium.

Bootlicka Kicks serious dong!!

Melvins Discussion / The cover of "Teen Spirit"

Quote from: PAULI love how when they play it live they fuck up the solo into some crazy noise, as opposed to on the album where it's pretty much straight.

Yeah, I really loved that fucked up solo, it makes the song better...

Quote from: Anonymousbut after the last song from the night before they played the whole 15 minute thing that is side one of Lysol, big guitar intro and all. It was that album that introduced me to the Melvins and I will die happy after seeing it live, never thought I would!

Cheers,

Cameron

You're fucking lucky, I would love to hear Lysol live...

Quote from: nickyallenkAnyone have any links to interviews about Dale Crover online from any of the drum publications? Also looking for anywhere there might be an online posting of an article / drum music of Dale Crover in Modern Drummer from around '95 called Off the Record. They provided music off of Stoner Witch as well as information to what he used gear wise to record the song (crashers, cowbells, etc.). I used to have the issue which had this but lost it or threw it away. Thanks.

If this helps he uses a ribbon crasher, which I fucking LOVE...
