Dale has farted and Trevor has a keen sense of smell. That's what it looks like to me. I'm worried Trevor's going to do his back in before the tour's finished. The way he was flinging around that monster he plays made me think of all the Manual Handling and Lifting courses I've been on at work.

Oh snap!
"Who knew they would get so ma ma ma ma ma mad. "
who the hell is this George Thorogood guy?
George Thorgood is, to my mind, a kind of hack hype man with a backing band. Did you see Terminator 2: Judgement Day? George Thorgood and The Destroyers did that song Bad to the Bone that is playing early on in that film, I believe after Arnold is done mopping the floor with a bunch of bikers and steals one of their "choppers".
George Thorgood is much how Buzzo described him, someone who has made a living doing covers of old Blues numbers.
His joke about him getting ma-ma-ma-ma-mad is in reference to this Bad to the Bone song in which George sings Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba- Bad to the Bone.

Never wrote a single song and yet still sold millions of records and played concerts all over the whole world! Just like Madonna and Britney Spears! But let's get back to what we were originally talking about....
If you guys did actually finish the tour and you are nonetheless still not in the record book, well....Whatever, bitch.

QuoteAs we were loading our gear after a really fun Fargo show, a stoner rock hipster in his mid 20s started talking to me about how I was obviously looking at his girlfriend as we were playing...Keep in mind that I don't see much at all while I'm on stage and I certainly don't focus in on one person or another during a performance. I'm busy, and the idea that I could be making eyes at some chick during our set is totally absurd. Just then his girlfriend walked up puffing on a smoke and obviously heavily inebriated. She looked like a cross between a heavy metal Elvis and a slightly overweight street-tough version of Elvira and certainly seemed like she would take a dare. I told him he was a lucky man.
What else could I say? In those situations you have to pick your words carefully or else you'll end up getting the crap kicked out of you. How would that look? Me getting the crap kicked out of me by some scrawny dudes girlfriend?

The Melvins are a very talented 29 year rock band who have reinvented themselves with each album offering. They have influenced and worked with a lot of today's popular metal bands. The Melvins perform music that is true to themselves with highly creative song structures, balls to the wall rocking riffs and weird ass lyrics and song titles. They are in the midst of playing 51 states in 51 days in their late 40's with no complaints and no superstar treatment.
You should take the time to check them out. They have about 30+ albums to choose from.

I usually refrain from posting comments; but, i could not in this particular case. Simply because your band blows, and you never received any of the notoriety Green Day has, and you have not because, again, your band blows, as do your musical abilities, in no way gives you the right to condemn Billie Joe. When you do, you come across as bitter, and in my opinion, quite jealous. Commenting on their band name is also ridiculous as you named your band after a horrible male name. Oh, that was clever. I wonder how you would have acted if you were in his shoes. But then again, since your band blows, i suppose we will never know. Stick to writing blogs for your three fans, and stop trash talking Green Day as well as Billie Joe

What I find particularly funny about that video is how the bass player joins BJ in smashing his instrument for no apparent reason (misplaced sense of obligation, perhaps?) while the drummer just gets up and leaves.

Good call! I've watched that a bunch and didn't get it. The joke she has quite cleverly crafted is: "the bass is a fucking boat"!
I am generally a non-violent person but I am glad I wasn't at that show. OMG I want to punch all of those people right in their stupid retarded faces. If they are going to heckle they could at least be funny, not drunk and retarded. Holy fuck the entire show is under two hours including Tweak Bird, how much fucking booze do morons digest at these shows? No wonder Buzz is straight edge....

All three dudes are terribly good writers. Entertaining, thoughtful, and extremely funny.
Walsby made a bummer of a post last night on his facebook. I guess they got two flat tires - George Thorogood was behind this, for sure. I imagine he ordered a box of super giant nails and a sling shot from the ACME Corporation and shot it in their direction.
Good news is, the band is back on the road, and seem to have made it safely to the next destination. Three more gigs! USA! USA! USA!!! Melvins making it into The Book of Genesis is near. Melvins making it into the Book of World Records is nearer.
This is unbelievably exciting :D

Looking at this picture. It makes me think of years from now - especially in a few recent interviews where Buzz has said he doesn't care what happens to all the music when he's dead - it makes me think of one of his mumus hanging in the Smithsonian with a pair of sneakers just below it. In a just world, that's exactly where they would be. But alas . . . who knows . . .

Based on my own "research" (aka googling) it does appear that George probably finished his tour. I wouldn't be surprised if Buzz really did hear that it was cancelled. Can we really trust radio DJ's though? I remember hearing Faith No More's Epic on the radio around 2001 and the DJ insisted that Mike Patton was in jail for pissing on an audience in Europe. This was the infamous Tomahawk dildo incident.
It seems like The Melvins barely care about the record anyway and just wanted to do something over the top. Still, it's pretty funny they've been playing "Bad to the Bone" on the PA once their set is over.
The quotes from Buzz in that article make the whole tour and any silly controversy all worth it. Oh, and the shows were fun too !! Can't you just hear Buzz's laugh after each one of these . . .
"I can only hope that some day I will be playing Bo Diddley covers at county fairs!"
"Who knew they would get so ma ma ma ma ma mad," he wrote. "I suppose they could be right and if they are then we really are sorry. We're sorry we said you didn't do it if you really did."
How can they top it? "Death," Osborne quips. "We're going to kill ourselves. Actually, what we want to do next year is 52 shows, one show per week for the whole year. It will be the longest, slowest tour of the U.S."
Regardless of the record. This has generated a lot of press for Melvins....
..Which I'm pretty sure was the desired effect of the tour
Still it would have been pretty cool to have The Melvins in the Guinness Book of World Records.
I love that at the end of the show last night in LA, they started playing "Bad to the Bone" over the speakers. Nice touch.
Am I the only one who thinks Trevor is the most nondescript looking human being on the planet? I've been following his music for 20 years, count myself as a big fan, have seen him in photos and live on numerous occasions, but the man could literally walk unannounced into my kitchen and say "Hi, Dan! I'm Trevor! Thanks for the support!" and I'd be like "Hi, Trevor! Who the fuck are you and why are you in my kitchen?"

They should do it in their own unique way, by releasing a George Thorogood cover album, which would hence be a cover album of songs that were covered by another artist.

Pretty sure it was Pleasure Principle. I also got a kick from the extended intro mix to Sweet Leaf; it sounded quite deranged.

I am certain "Cars" did play while they were setting up, which is from Pleasure Principle. May have been their own mix of Numan tracks.

To be quite honest, I have often pondered that Hendrix/Clapton theory myself. I guess we'll never know.
We've never had our songs in beer commercials or sold shit loads of records the way they have. Considering how well they seem to have done, it seems like a weird thing to get all hacked off about but hell why not, I guess. Who knew they would get so ma ma ma ma ma mad. I suppose they could be right and if they are then we really are sorry. We're sorry we said you didn't do it if you really did.
How many times do the Melvins need to say they're sorry? There's two times in the above Tour Diary entry.
wtf ? Say they're sorry ?!?!? Does anybody other than George Thorogood care ???
At this point, I don't think the Melvins even care beyond their personal feelings of accomplishment. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't submit whatever paperwork allegedly needs to be submitted to the Guinness people - or if they really didn't have any intention to in the first place.
As far as I could tell it wasn't even Thorogood himself, who actually wished them the best of luck, but rather his tour manager.

I''m not sure if Brian will be able to put it on the wiki page, but we can surely ask. I don't think the diary on SPIN will disappear anytime soon but I thought it would be nice to look at it as a whole so I've been saving text and photos as they've been going up. I could just as easily put them up in a thread here on the BBS if you guys want. I'll be working in front of my computer all day (sigh) and sadly, have the time to do it. It would be nice if we could disable comments for a minute and just have the diary perserved in one solid place. Other than the last few, I have it all saved in one spot so it wouldn't be a big deal at all. More than half the work is already done! Thoughts?
^Thanks for the work on this.. I was thinking something similar. That the diaries should be preserved somehow
(A small limited edition book would be really cool)
OK, I have the complete diary stored and saved on my computer. The photos have been organized and dated accordingly too.
Slow day at work.
Anyway, let me get an Ok and we can get it up in full here on the bbs. I guess my only concern is there might be some kind of copyright infringement. Melvins own the photos, so I think it would be fine to do. What do you guys think?

Yeahhhh, let's just leave it be for now because it's an exclusive to SPIN. I really don't think posting the text on the message board would be a biggie (SPIN and most of SPINs readers do not hang out here, I'm sure of it) but I'm going to wait for it to cool down anyway. I'd never heard of that. Seems strange to do this with all 3 shows so far apart. You could do it in the Mediterranean region with far less effort.
"On 23 October 1995, the band entered the Guinness Book of World Records by performing three concerts on three continents in one day (Tangiers, Morocco; London, England; and Vancouver, Canada).[49]"
10 years later and i STILL haven't read all this tour diary. Thanks to Conda's efforts i've had a few initial attempts but (due to the size of this thing) have always gave up. I always struggle reading long form stuff on a screen - it's not something i enjoy. I much prefer to have it on paper in my hands. SO anyway i've decided that next week when no supervisors are at my work, im going to print this whole thing off. I wonder if they will be surprised the next day to find all the paper and ink has gone!!

I would feel the same. Im just not into reading a lot from ANY screen. It feels weird to say that being that i consume so much context online but if i want to feel like i've "properly" take it in or am spending time with it - it HAS to be on paper.

Not especially. 44. Im sure younger folk who probably grew up with reading from screens feel comfortable with it. I do myself for some things online. On here for example or the usual sites one might peruse. But longer pieces of text are uncomfortable for me on a screen. Not because of the font size or bright screen - just it doesn't sit well with me or feel as connected. Even when people post cool articles on here that tend to get a bit longer than a few paragraphs or a neat interview with someone i REALLY want to read. I still find it lacking and hard to concentrate on it properly. Maybe i am alone in this, but for me there is no substitute at all for actually having the physical item (be it a book or magazine or sheet of paper) in your hands and reading it that way. I find im much more relaxed and take it in far more. Perhaps that is conditioning i don't know.
Not long after this came out I downloaded it and then printed the whole thing. I read it a couple of times absolutely loved it then gave it to my brother to read and never heard about it again :x
