There was a semi-negative review that made a point that I agree with: for all of the talk of how unusual the making of this album was, the end result is less avant-garde and more repetitive riffage, with the weirdness factor being a layer of noise over everything. That being said, the repetitive riffage here is quite good. I think Bad Mood Rising is a better album because it is a lot more diverse in dynamics and timbre, but this is a great mean psychedelic sludge album. Mackie's art is phenomenal, might be my favorite package since I don't know when.

My favorite part is the first quarter of Pain Equals Funny. Buzzo does not get enough credit for gorgeous melodies (see Hospital Up amongst others).

At breakfast a week ago wearing a HAT tee. Older boomer couple sat down next to us and engaged in convo. They were both from Morton, the wife used to babysit "Buzzy," and are friends with the whole Osborne clan. My mom, whom I was having breakfast with asked what he was like as a kid. "Pretty normal, liked sports.....but always had the 'fro."

I had no expectations of Boris and was blown away. Granted they only played one album (+ a cover of Boris that out-Melvined Melvins) but I was blown away at how good they were. Almost as loud as Swans but sounded spectacular, and they were monster players.

I don't think he gets Night Goat.  I don't think he really feels that song.   it's not a skippy bass line.   brother was happily skip-a-dee-do'ing around the stage on the bass intro.    it made it seem like a happy song.  Night Goat is not happy.

Night Goat is a clap-a-long.

Roseland was on fire! My thoughts:

1. Mr. Phylzzz were incredible, and the goofy vibe they brought worked well.

2. While I found the setlist to be odd and overplayed, I have no complaints. First time I have seen Ligature. I will never tire of Blessened or Bad Men. Coady was fantastic. My love for Steven grows bigger, the levity the band gets from his compulsive need to entertain just fits so well, and he is a monster on that bass. It's really like having two guitarists.

*Steven said surgery was a success*

3. I can't help but imagine this conversation pre-tour: Steven: "Hey, I bet I can turn the beginning of Night Goat into a clap-along." Buzz: *cackles*

4. The vocal ending of Boris is something I won't forget.

5. Hey portland, can we agree that they should only play the roseland? They always sound 10 times better when they play there and the energy is always higher.

6. I have heard some Boris before, but haven't really dived in. THEY BLEW THE DOORS OFF THE JOINT. I was surprised when I heard Melvins would be in the middle and Boris would close, but now it makes sense. They weren't better, just different. Their music just has more space and it breathes more, whereas Melvins are wound up like a top, because of those punk roots.

7. Boris paying tribute to the Melvins, feeling honored to be there and help celebrate was a sweet speech. This felt like new puppies and old puppies paying tribute and celebrating. This is a good tour.

Psychological Acupressure = meridian tapping. My wife uses it all the time to manage severe PTSD. I use it sometimes as an Autistic for stemming.

I love that this Melvins related thread was hi-jacked into a Zappa topic, and I didn't even start it. I'm anxiously waiting for a MOT-F project/object style box set. Yes, the Thing-Fish demos, more live versions than what's on YCDTOSA, and everything left off the original release in all it's glory, along w/ an original vinyl re-release. Not joking. :o

14 CDs of Francisco Zappa outtakes :)

How much of a percentage does the band take from a venue for a show?

I was just thinking about this tour and my somewhat local show in Birmingham has a capacity of 2000 people. Tickets are £33.75 so assuming the show sells out, the establishment is taking in £67500 for one SINGLE night!!! That's kinda mind blowing and i've never realised that or thought about such before. Pretty much ridiculous amounts. So how much of that will the band see? Even if they only get 25%, Melvins must be quite financially loaded from all the many shows and years of touring they have under their belt.

This works out to $40 USD per ticket, which is a bit more than the current average for a Melvins headliner (I think it was 33 bucks last year). I think that's common when bands on either side of the pond cross over to tour to cover the additional costs involved.

Split the difference: IF you have a personal relationship or have some assurance that these are going to a specific Melvins fan through a personal sale, and it will make you feel good knowing they are going to an appreciative home and you aren't gouging, sell at cost.

If it's just going onto the marketplace, make your profit. These are collector's items and the creators knew that these would be rare and valuable to collectors who will pay above cost.

This year, the Six Songs EP is as old as this car was when Six Songs was released:
