One has to ask: Did someone go back to the original tapes and remaster this specifically now for vinyl, or is it just going to be a needle-drop/dupe of the '99 Ipecac CD reissue? I have a suspicion that it's not a real analog tape to vinyl release. There will likely be no difference in sound quality from CD to vinyl on this. Melvins know they have a slew of fans that are vinyl geeks, & we're all gonna buy it regardless. :lol: I hope the same quality control that went into the Boner reissues happens with GPT.

Let's presume those original Tapes are long gone by now dude. I'm betting anyway, I doubt the band had the cash to float at the time to buy the Tape it was recorded on, those Reels would be like $400 Bucks a pop and probly were re-used after the mastering...
BUT....BUT.... if we are lucky there is a Master Reel at least (Like the original Tape straight off the board was mixed onto another tape like it's been *Set*) There's probably some kind of a backup protection copy of said master that's still got some magic on it, chances are it's going to turn out pretty good or they probably wouldn't have put the money into it, especially since there isn't a sure way to get rich off the sales of a 30+ year old album that has been in circulation now, that being said, the band knows their market, To me, it's a timeless classic, that there is a reason for doing things like this because they are not cashing in I would say, something like this is a special treat.
The band always says if they aren't happy with their album, they Just do another one. going back into this territory I think this must be the time, wow! It's been a long time coming, but they need to set their milestone in some way and plant a flag and look back and this is a good way to solidify a reminder of their accomplishments in a way.

Again I'm very proud of this band... way ahead of themselves at such a young age to have put these songs together, I think it was really ambitious and like Buzz was talking about it was a real gamble for them to go ahead and get this made in the first place considering there was little interest for them as a band and they stuck to their guns and took the leap. GPT was one of those albums that Made my life back in the day when I picked up a copy and stuck it on my headphones and gave it a listen...and it Just hit the right spot between punk and metal so perfectly it was like Where has this been my whole life!?!?!
It's a fantastic Thrashy heavy straight up Album.
The best review I ever heard of this album was some internet comment from back in the day that I'll never forget:

I think that's what makes it cool personally, the drums are set back in the mix and requires a bit of your attention to pick out the subtle details...you got a volume knob doncha?
The original was recorded and mastered pre-loudness war man, Check out an original Cassette version of GPT or Ozma and look where the Volume Units on your Tape deck are *kicking* between a shade under the 50-60 Marks where they should be, Then go back and compare the Ozma/GPT CD version to the Ipecac GPT re-release and tell me apples and oranges there while your at it.
This album has a unique sound because of all the reverb..likewise compare the Demo sound to the Album sound, It's got a garage quality to it on the demo that is a lot dryer and tighter and it's quiet sound compared to how big they tried to get it on the album.. there is no difference of the performance itself more or less of the demo vs. the actual Album. Note however, the bass in the Demo's sounds much fatter and grittier with a bit of saturation whereas the album the bass sounds a little brighter and crisper, you get the impression it's a Tube amp almost... you don't get the sub effect of it as much, that makes the album feel a little more bottomless in a way. The vocals and Guitar are the showcase, The drums are amazing so I think it's genius the way they down played the mix ever so slightly. Dale Drives any other Metal drummer into the ground on this album like it's nobodies business, and that has a lot to do with what Buzz is playing on guitar and they have a near flawless co-efficiency together that not many bands will ever come close to in their entire careers.
In short: the reverb overall helps blend everything back into the mix.
the album sound is based off that huge booming reverb sound that makes the drums sound a lot more pushed back into the mix and really brings out the effect that the vocals and guitar are Loud. The album sounds like it was recorded in a huge empty space with high ceiling and concrete floor rather than a little studio space and they mixed the close mics with the room mics so well you can hear it in the drum fade out where someone pushes back the Close mics on the drums and pumps up the room mic(s)
Listen carefully to when someone (Probly Buzz) says *Steve Neuman* between that track how much reverb is on the vocals!
I lived in this album for months on end, and comparing it to everything else it stands out because of that reverb quality unlike Ozma which has a very different, Gated and compressed and processed sound to it that's a lot more typical of the recording techniques used in most 80's sounding Metal or Rock, Less reverb on the drums this time around, more compression and the Cymbals are much closer and brighter sounding, but the Kick drum and the sub also has the same effect which makes it a little more tinny than thumpy. I remember reading an interview with Buzz talking bout how this was the first time he learned a thing or two about how to properly mic a guitar amp from the guy who recorded this album.
Who did the original GPT Session was it the boner guys? Not the same guy in charge of 10 songs, I don't think, whoever did 10 Songs CD I have it's got a CZ label and I don't know what else is on that Label. :-k
as for the *needle* drops of the 99 Re-issue of 26 songs or whatever, that proves if anything how well a vinyl pressing will stand up to the test of time over a digitally rendered session which is probably long gone due to what Steve Albini was talking about where software licensing has expired and you can no longer access or revise those sessions. Another thing to consider is that those original tapes are buried in a basement or landfill by now with something else re-recorded over them and all that's left are original pressings or test pressings etc by the time it was necessary to go back and re-release something....HELL...most bands don't even make it that far!!! think about it...I doubt these guys could foresee a future doing this way back then, and that's also why they Just said fuck it, let's go for it and see where it leads, those burgers and potholes aren't going anywhere if all else fails.
I don't want to sound like a romantic fool but the music industry is disgraceful for not giving these guys the gold medal by now, they simply have to pat themselves on the back and at the end of the day doing something like this is like leaving their own legacy to perpetuate into the their own history as it's own reward, think about all the great artists out there who's work today is being praised long after they have been gone, and It's all timeless stuff that generates into Legend and lore, this album IMO is such a thing in a lot of ways it needs to live on for future generations to hear. Vinyl is such a rugged media that I think it's the right call, it will span the bridge of time.

If I didn't know any better I'd say some of the subject matter of these songs seem like they could be about First experiences with Acid Tripping...But That's how I've come to imagine them over all these years of trying to find some kind of meaning to what's behind and inside of this album. I could be completely mistaken. There's a heavy aura in the style of Buzz's Vocals and Lyrics that really piece some strange imagery in my head.
I lent the re-issue album to a friend once back in grade 10, Out of sympathy, because he was actually an incredible Guitarist but his taste in music was pretty Generic..A week later when I got downtown to meet up with him to Jam, he came off the bus Singing the lyrics to don't piece me. :lol: :lol: :lol: I was like...well my work here is done!!! before that he was under the impression NurdVana and Pearl Jam was the shit. :P :merde:

Likely a savings compared to the forthcoming reissue.

I don't think there was a reissue on vinyl previously. Well, unless you count sleazy bootlegs, or reprints by Alchemy back in the day (remember they originally had Matt and Buzz labeled incorrectly).

Haze told us on Facebook that it's practically impossible to get a vendor shut down for selling a line of counterfeit merch like the Chinese Melvins shirts for example so this doesn't look like it could happen. They only care about lots of money going through their site.
Well how many people from Ypsilanti ordered one? I'm sure Haze could figure out who it is and cancel their order so one of the folks here who genuinely wants one could buy it for regular price.

It's probably easy for Haze to figure out who it is.
I'm betting that you'll see more of all colors in the future, probably at the event Haze mentioned earlier. Maybe some will be sold in a bundle? You'll see a couple pop up on ebay, sell high initially, but the price will drop over the next year or so.

I believe onetime Haze bought one on ebay got the persons real name and address then cancelled the ebay order and cancelled the shopox order. I might be wrong but i do kinda remember this happening

I was so excited and was waiting for it to be released... but I was paying attention to the Melvins Facebook page and not the AmRep page and I didn't realize it had been released until 2 days after it went up.
I shouldn't say anything because it hasn't shipped yet but I just purchased one from eBay (pink version). I would've preferred the silver but you take what you can get.
Got an email notification that it's sitting on my front porch. Won't be able to get to it for another few hours. I know heat isn't good for vinyl but how about cold?

Did everyone who has received their gluey reissues get a shipping notification with a tracking number? I've always gotten one when my order ships from amrep. Yes. I always receive a tracking number from AmRep. Maybe check your junk mail and spam filters and email them if you didn't get one. I received my record yesterday.

I lived in this album for months on end, and comparing it to everything else it stands out because of that reverb quality unlike Ozma which has a very different, Gated and compressed and processed sound to it that's a lot more typical of the recording techniques used in most 80's sounding Metal or Rock, Less reverb on the drums this time around, more compression and the Cymbals are much closer and brighter sounding, but the Kick drum and the sub also has the same effect which makes it a little more tinny than thumpy. I remember reading an interview with Buzz talking bout how this was the first time he learned a thing or two about how to properly mic a guitar amp from the guy who recorded this album.
Who did the original GPT Session was it the boner guys? Not the same guy in charge of 10 songs, I don't think, whoever did 10 Songs CD I have it's got a CZ label and I don't know what else is on that Label. :-k
as for the *needle* drops of the 99 Re-issue of 26 songs or whatever, that proves if anything how well a vinyl pressing will stand up to the test of time over a digitally rendered session which is probably long gone due to what Steve Albini was talking about where software licensing has expired and you can no longer access or revise those sessions. Another thing to consider is that those original tapes are buried in a basement or landfill by now with something else re-recorded over them and all that's left are original pressings or test pressings etc by the time it was necessary to go back and re-release something....HELL...most bands don't even make it that far!!! think about it...I doubt these guys could foresee a future doing this way back then, and that's also why they Just said fuck it, let's go for it and see where it leads, those burgers and potholes aren't going anywhere if all else fails.
This is hand down the best review that was ever written about Gluey Porch Treatment.
