QuotePRIMITIVE RACE returns with a new release this fall, appropriately titled "Volume 2". The outfit, helmed by producer/bass player Chris Kniker (REVCO, LORDS OF ACID), enlisted former FAITH NO MORE singer Chuck Mosley for vocals and MELVINS' drummer Dale Crover for the 10-song collection.

How many bands is that now that Dale has been involved in? The guy must be busy all the time!

That was the first thing I thought too.

Melvins, Crystal Fairy, Hew Time, Altamont, Conan Neutron, Low Flying Hawks, Primitive Race, Solo career, Shrinebuilder (?), Porn (?)

Huh, Kniker was teasing people for a while about the shocker of a new drummer they had, Dale crossed my mind but I immediately dismissed the possibility. The whole backstory of Primitive Race is completely embarrassing and the first album was a total wet fart, just shitty generic wannabe industrial rock that came out 20+ years past its sell-by date after years of being hyped up as something intense and unique. It was really only that Chris Kniker guy as its only consistent player with a bunch of guest singers/players around him but this could be a little more interesting if they keep this consistent lineup for the whole album. Not holding my breath for it to be much good though.

Tees Padres with Lou Barlow, but I think that fizzled.

I'm happy to see that Chuck is working. It wasn't that long ago that he was on social media begging for money because his family was about to lose their house.

That's one thing i have noticed with Dale is that he will sometimes contribute to acts that are not (at least in my opinion) very good or too promising. I guess he just likes to play, keep busy and try new things - work with new people. Can't blame him there. I'll be interested in hearing this but i'll keep my expectations in check.

all the people (me too) want to play with Crover, this is probably the reason

If the band play live shows they probably won't be doing any international touring because Chuck refuses to fly. When he played those couple of shows with FNM last year in San Francisco he drove from Cleveland where he lives now.

Hey guys, I'm stoked you're interested in the project.  I've known Chuck since 1999 or 2000 so getting him involved with Mark Thwaite, Erie and I was really cool.  The icing on the cake was definitely that Dale would drum on the record.  He did an amazing job (not surprisingly).  The guys from Warlock Pinchers/Foreskin 500 (Boner bands) were some of my best friends growing up and Toshi is a friend too...so that was kind of the connection there.  I'm much happier with this record than the "wet fart" haha.  That first go around had too many cooks in the kitchen.  There are some songs on that one I'm really proud of but there were some duds too.  Still, it was a lot of fun to make.  It was my first time playing on a record instead of just producing or project managing one.  This record I felt a lot more comfortable speaking up and keeping it focused and in line with what I wanted it to be.  MGT, Erie, and I all worked really well on the first one so it felt natural to keep a real core instead of something like a Pigface free for all and go from there.   Anyway, I hope you guys check it out when it comes out and enjoy it as much as we did making it.

Now if only the Melvins would reprint the "Pussy" shirt I've worn to the point of fabric rot (not to mention I could use a size bigger these days) since December 1993.

i listen to it a lot at work. i can hardly listen to any FNM with Chuck but this project fits his voice so much better. music is tight. kinda downtuned. nice grooves. Dale's drumming is top notch as could be expected.
