All I know is that they are playing the Opera House in Toronto together April 19
I liked Melt Banana as a two piece, but for a tour like this a full band is in order.
OH... MY....
possibly my two favorite bands ever. and Toronto is close to where? MOTOWN.
what do you think the odds are they will honor my never used "shelter" tickets?
They're touring to announce the apocalypse.

they come out (like many grindcore bands) and just basically punch you right in the mouth right from the opening note. oh.. the intensity.
"...prepare yourself to be punched in the mouth..."
I know this is an enthusiastic endorsement coming from glen, just not really a priority for me at a show. And I saw Melt Banana open for Mr Bungle. Not my cup o tea, either.

 I think maybe we discussed this already somewhere? I saw them at this bar in St. Paul and, though loud, I was a bit surprised that they didn't live up to the "volume" legend they are noted for. But, maybe I'm just in the advanced stages of hearing loss? I am 87, after all.

A DC date finally! I think the last time they played here was the first tour with Pinkus in, I wanna say August 2013. Which in melvins time is an eternity.
Also, Melt Banana!!! Last time I saw them, that same year, the guitarist tolchocked me gulliver real horrorshow with his headstock.
The Bandsintown app is pretty handy (how I actually found out about this) but the people who attach band photos to the announcements need to do their research. The pic of ND they used was of their lineup in 1989. Only one person from that lineup is still in the band.
Does anyone know of Mitch Harris is back in the group yet?

Erik Burke who filled in for Mitch on the last tour is a good buddy of mine. I'll ask.
Difficult to find any kind of info regarding Mitch Harris, but he hasn't played with Napalm in almost a year.
Wow, last time Melvins played Agora Cleveland was the '03 Geek Show tour w/ Tomahawk. Will probably make the 3-hr trek. Haven't been to that venue since Peeping Tom in '07.
Hope Melvins get more than a half-hour slot. I would guess ND gets the headlining spot. I never got into them, but if Burke is on guitar, it'll be good. Have seen him melt skulls with Brutal Truth, & with Sulaco here many times.
Melt-Banana rules, saw the 2-pc lineup this spring and in fall '13. They still deliver, but how can you not prefer the full band lineup? It's the same deal with Buckethead, who oddly enough hasn't toured in almost 4 yrs.

Shane Embury should bass for Melvins and Buzz should play guitar for ND 8)
Ran across this little snippet:
"We have been talking about doing a tour like this for a long time so we are thrilled it's finally happening," says Napalm Death bass player Shane Embury. "Having been long time fans and friends of the Melvins we are very happy to be embarking on this six-week tour of musical madness with them and Melt Banana. Expect the unexpected!"
Melvins' singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne added: "Napalm Death sounds like a gorilla on LSD firing a machine gun... and I mean that in a good way. We're happy to be heading out with the ultimate grindcore pioneers."
Tickets go on sale Friday! Well at least the Milwaukee date does.

Oh god, yes.
Steven McDonald? interesting choice. Too bad OFF! couldn't be on the bill as well.
ah fuck ok
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!
The sludge rockers' lineup for the trek will feature Redd Kross bassist Steven McDonald playing with frontman Osborne and drummer Dale Crover. Prior to the tour, that trio will put out a 10-inch titled War Pussy, though a release date has yet to be announced.
War Pussy must already be recorded and more or less complete. Can't wait to see the artwork. (LOL emoticon here)
Can't wait to see the tour posters for this...
I'd have to bet something from War Pussy is gonna be on Basses Loaded.
That said I hope this isn't the only tour they do with McDonald...

All great news! Steven McDonald is one of my favorite bass players and it's at a real venue, you know like a for real venue!
Not some parking lot that sounds like shit or in the corner of a bar where said bar takes up the entire space! No disrespect to Grumpy's. Nah I'm fooling'. Grumpy's sucks.
I'm sorry, but this is exactly why these guys are the greatest band on earth. They're refreshing. I guess I have never really been a big fan of theirs but was excited to see them since they are such legends and held in high regards by bands I love. I think they are safe and boring the singer has a monotone aspect to his growl. I bet if I heard them before I had heard so many bands they influenced I would have greater appreciation for what they do. I always liked Carcass and Dismember way mo'beddest.
Harmony Corruption, along with Deicide's self-titled and Death's Individual Thought Patterns, was one of my first death metal albums. I know, I know, "grind" but all this shit is death metal to me. I don't listen to Napalm Death at all anymore but I'm definitely a fan of the late 80s very early 90s shit.

Harmony Corruption
was death metal. After Lee Dorrian and Bill Steer left, Mick saw what was happening in the Florida scene and shifted ND more in that direction. They had already slightly flirted with some death metal sounds on the Mentally Murdered ep (which is probably my favorite ND material). He had played with Mitch in Defecation which was a grindy death side project before Mitch was even in ND. Barney came to ND from Benediction who were total death metal. So it just kinda made sense that they shifted in that direction for Harmony Corruption.

Actually nobody if the setlist at the Feb '15 show was any indication. That was the one thing I felt was missing from an otherwise bad ass set.
Yeah I was kinda surprised Burke didn't do Mitch's vocals. With his vocal style in Sulaco he could easily do them.
Who's the artist who created the poster (on the FB page) ??? It's like they've been looking through my windows, keeping a journal on things that I like. A jackalope, a dinosaur AND a TIE Fighter?!?! AND it's in 3D?!?! AND it's for MELVINS, ND AND MELT BANANA?!!?
Dreams! This is what they are made of!
Great news. Dale killed it in OFF! last year @ The Grog Shop, will be awesome to see Steven join Melvins.
The Agora, glad that place is still rockin'. Last show I saw there was not Peeping Tom, it was Les Claypool's Oddity Faire w/ Secret Chiefs opening (the theater side) in '09,
The very first time I saw Melt-Banana was there also(Ballroom side), opening for Fantomas in '05. Sick, sick show.
Can we talk about how fucking stellar all three of these bands are live? I haven't seen ND but Glen can vouch, MB is just super crazy balls buzzy screechy yip fuck gnar skuzz, and Melvins are.... well they're ok I suppose. Not a weak link in this chain, man.
I haven't seen MB since Dave Witte was their touring drummer in the US. First time I saw them was when my old band opened for them in '97. They are always great and I agree with Grim in hoping it will be the full band.

I hate the majestic theatre. but if you think that is enough to put a damper on this bill you are sadly mistaken. I will most assuredly be in attendance.
if you haven't seen Napalm Death live prepare yourself to be punched in the mouth.
I have been to just about every venue in Detroit, but have never been to the Majestic for some reason. Is it a total shithole or does the sound just suck?

its an old dumpy theatre. heavy on the dumpy. (its the downstairs of the magic stick)
but I actually recently read an article that they were closing the magic stick and remodeling the majestic from a roughly 1000 capacity down to I believe 700 or 500 capacity. its been ample time for that to have been completed but I do not know if it is or not.
Confirmed.

Melvins will still get an hour-long set. What's the melvins standard now? 70-90 minutes? Not bad. This will be my first time seeing Napalm Death, so I don't mind too much.

A few years back they were playing here on my birthday. A friend of mine has known them for years and I ended up at dinner with him, Barney and Shane. Lots of fun conversation and stuff and I was able to keep 16 year old me from freaking out. Later during the show Barney saw me in the crowd between songs and wished me happy birthday by name. If that's not family entertainment I don't know what is...
Anybody else going to the New Orleans show? I don't think any boardies live there but worth a shot eh?
Bigjilm , Greasy and Condy are you guys goning to the Toronto?

I don't know anything about the remodeling. It's a decent size venue but the sound isn't awesome and the line of sight is weird if you're not right in front. All in all it's not too bad of a deal. Interesting and somewhat Melvins related fact: I'm pretty sure it's where Harry Houdini was fatally punched in the gut.
How have I forgotten to buy tickets for this still? As much as I love Grumpy's, I am happy to see Melvins in a more proper venue again.
I wrote this in my Tempe review today. Might as well put it here, too.

I gotta stress to people. I think the turnaround between bands was about 15 minutes. Get there on time. The Marquee had enough room for the Melvins to set up everything in front of Napalm Death's stuff. So given that the first band is 2 people, shit moves fast!

And Halo of Flies goes back to 1971! A mere 8 years before Steven McDonald made played his first concert in 1979 in The Tourists (Pre-Red Cross/Redd Kross) opening for Black Flag.

I always go about an hour early and catch him early. Last time I did it he had 2 copies of the redd kross 12" split.

DC show
It's at the 9:30 Club, so that's the reason why. 9:30 thinks they're fucking legendary like CBGBs or something, but with a total corporate mentality. If a band wants to sell their merch there, they HAVE TO give 9:30 Club a cut. I don't know what percent, but this IS FACT, learned it from the Clutch forum. I've never set foot in D.C., but if I lived near there, I would try and avoid that shitty establishment. It's ND's tour, so Melvins have no say in where they're playing. If it was a Melvins headline tour, I'd bet it would be at The Black Cat, or somewhere else.
I saw Walsby's post advising fans to get in line for merch before ND goes on if you want something. I don't blame them, makes sense logistically, things should run smoother, and he doesn't have to deal with drunk fucks afterwards. I'll scope it out in Cleveland well before Melt-Banana goes on.
I was thinking it was something like that. It seems that I remember them not having merch here before when they played. And they don't usually play here.
930 club def thinks they are iconic. They now have a room devoted to a bunch of records and CDs of bands that have played here. It's called the 930 club hall of records and all it is is a bunch of CD/record spines behind glass. Totally dumb. The funny thing is a lot of the CDs are doubled and even quadrupled I guess to make it look like more bands have played there. Either that or kasabian had a 4 night stint. Everyone in the room was confused and making fun of it.

This is disappointing to see such negative reviews, just two days after I purchase tickets for Sleep in June at the 930 to road trip from Cincy.

thats fucked. No one should book there, ever.
I just got back from the show at 9:30 Club, and yes there was no melvins merch for sale, same as the last time they played there during the first Pinkus tour. I have no idea whether the club's merch policies are as artist-unfriendly as people say, but I, having been to numerous shows there, have yet to have a bad experience. The layout and the sound are great, the staff are friendly, and security knows when to lay off and when to step in.
Beer is a little pricey, but I don't go there to drink. Also they seem to have replaced the hot rocker sluts tending the bar with rejects from a Girls casting call.

Here's a merch report from Philly:
-War Pussy 10''
-signed copies of mike and melvins, vinyl and CD
-Regular CD of bulls and bees
-Regular CD of Melvins demos from Manchild
-letter press version of Jam tribute /47
-letter press of bowie tribute /17
-melvins jewelry (Walsby illustrations)
-Walsby art
-maybe a couple of other things, but that was all the rare stuff I think

6 covers tho.
-Deuce and Frosted Flake lasted 2 mins each.
-With Yo Heart Not Yo Hands and Leech were more like a medley that lasted about 4 min total.
-Second Coming wasn't really played. It was just a drum intro to Halo of Flies. That's another 8 minutes.
Out of a 62min set they spent 16min playing covers. Considering that they weren't the headliners it's still 46min of original Melvins music. That's still longer than they played when they opened for Down. Plus Melvins are great at doing covers! I do wish they'd bring back Snake Appeal at some point. It seems like it'd be easy to cram it into most sets.
PS Come to think of it there was a bootleg in Vinney's vault years ago where it seemed like half of the set was covers. I think they played Tequila.
who's going to argue with actual minute by minute breakdowns? not I.

Not that it's ever going to happen, but i think Melvins should ditch this same set every night of a tour arrangement. Change things up a little, add a few rarely seen songs here and there. I could understand if they were a new act with only a couple of albums to fall back upon, but they've got 30+ years of songs!!
i understand that they play the same set every night, in the view that they want to deliver the best possible quality every night.
but i also agree with your point. they should do what you said and market it as a "special" tour. jules would need to see every date

I'll admit it. a little something is lost in the cookie cutter set. it takes some of the emotion out of it. it turns more into "put the piece in the part... put the piece in the part... put the piece in the part... put the piece in the part" and less into an artistic expression. that being said.. they're the professionals. I'm an idiot. so I'll shut up and rock out.

This is correct. Primus is one of my favorite bands and it's really obvious when they're playing a song that they don't play as often. I was excited to get Prof Nuttbutter the first time I saw them live because they only played it about 4 times on that tour. Les fucked up a few times and the band didn't sound nearly as tight as their Seas of Cheese set that they had been playing every night.
Same with The Melvins on their Endless Residency album. Houdini live sounds tight because they play it a lot but there are lots of mistakes on Stoner Witch live. It might be disappointing if you see them a lot on the same tour, or if you look at the set list in advance, but the way The Melvins currently do things is what makes their live set so tight and great.
