Melvins Discussion / Re: Buzz's 13 Favorite Records

Decent, slightly-surprising list. Honestly would have expected to see On the Corner there before something fro ma band like the Pixies. Sure as hell better than his list of favorite books/authors.

Finally listened to it. I like it. Now it looks like there's a collab or split or something with Shitkid on the way according to the band's Facebook?

Wait, so is the Providence venue gonna be Alchemy or Askew?

Providence! Heck yeah. Alchemy is a crappy venue but it'll be worth it.

Semi-related question... Were Flipper doing "Someday" live in the years prior to their American Grafishy album or something? Since that album with the song on it came out in 1993, but all the dates I can find for the Melvins' Love Canal/Someday EP are like, 1990-1991 era. It's not significant or anything but that always made me wonder what kind of inside knowledge Buzz had, or if he simply listened to live bootlegs or something.
Good question. Someday was released as a single in 1990, 'Someday/Distant Illusion'.

Aaaahhh okay, I had no idea. Thanks! I'd been wondering about that for years.

That Tacoma show was incredible. Best set I've seen them do in a few years now, incredible energy, unhinged and the setlist was relentless. That new opening salvo of Hooch/Honey Bucket/The Bit is relentless, and Your Blessened continues to be a major standout these days. And The Bloated Pope. And Civilized Worm. And Evil New War God. And A Growing Disgust...sheesh!! If this setlist holds for the upcoming tour overseas you Eurofreaks are STOKED!

Plus having Helms Alee first close their set with fucking At the Stake (a very bold and VERY successful move) and then come back out for the Night Goat mega closer was just ridiculous. Openers Holy Grove really impressed me too, in a Sabbath meets early Heart kind of way. heavy.

That venue is outstanding, I'd go see shows there any time. Crazy labyrinth of a place but the sound was outstanding and the room has great vibe. Hope I can stay in the hotel on site if they play there again.

Sounds even better than the show I got to see. Too bad Boston is the closest they've come to me for the past few go-rounds; every show I've seen or tried to see there has been such a colossal pain-in-the-ass as far as parking and crowds and expense and obnoxious drunks that I've pretty much sworn off it. The crowd here in Providence wasn't super-receptive to them though and it seemed like most folks were just there for Helms Alee (Dale even commented on the crowd's lack of energy during most of the Melvins set) so sadly I would not be surprised if they didn't come back here anytime soon.

I'm suprised there was no Green River on Buzz's list since they do cover "Leech". Not on an album but still

Green River is kinda meh, though
I never really thought of Leech as a cover because didn't Green River actually 'give' them the song?  Maybe I'm thinking of something else....

Buzz asked them why they never played it live anymore; they told him they didn't like the song because they thought it was too slow/repetitive and that he could 'have' it and start playing it himself for all they cared. So he did.

Flipper just recruited David Yow for a west coast mini-tour so I could definitely see this happening. Was bummed because a cross-country trip for a show is out-of-the-question so I'm especially hoping for a Melvins/Flipper tour if it brings them closer to my neck of the woods.

In any case I hope the split has new material. Or if it's reissued old stuff, at least make it something cool and lesser-known like the "Someday" or "Love Canal" covers instead of "Way of the World" (which I've never liked the Melvins version of at all)

Buzz Man
Dale Man
Pink Man

Hey, that super-elaborate Melvins fan video game fell through, but there's an idea for a mod or something at least...

Melvins Discussion / Re: Melvins Stickers
March 19, 2019, 03:16:06 PM
Lately I've been seeing a car in my neighborhood a lot with a sticker of the recent raven/crow logo design on its back windshield. It has a million other bumper stickers, all for 90s 'grunge' bands (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, L7, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, and TAD off the top of my head, plus the obligatory Sub Pop logo) but the Melvins sticker is so prominently-displayed that it's always the first one my eye goes to on the road and always makes me happy to see.

More-on-topic though, wow, Jules, that Skeleton patch/sticker is badass.

I wonder if someone with Buzz as their dealer could just buy narcotics with street cred.

it could be completely from outta left field. Grohl did the Probot project. it's possible.  :anonymous:

Not to mention Killing Joke. That pretty much redeems him for Foo Fighters in my eyes.
