I just remembered I made this list awhile back.  Here's the updated version:

7.8 Chicken Switch
7.3 Never Breathe What You Can't See
7.3 A Senile Animal
7.0 Nude With Boots
6.7 The Crybaby
6.7 Freak Puke
6.5 Everybody Loves Sausages
6.1 Hold It In
5.7 Houdini Live
5.6 Hostile Ambient Takeover
5.3 Mangled Demos from 1983
5.2 The Bride Screamed Murder
4.9 Millennium Monsterwork

Maybe one day those Melvins will finally top their masterpiece Chicken Switch!

The only one on that list that kinda makes sense is Millennium Monsterwork

If I were to have to give a rating for Hold it in (based on just 2.5 listens) I'd say it would be in the 8.6 range.
Great album, lots of diversity and a couple of whoa is this the Melvins kind of moments.

I'd love to know the process in getting the rating down to a decibel rating that isn't going to come off as subjective wankery.

You've changed my mind it is definitely an 8.7 and not an 8.6 as previously stated

This is interesting because I knew this before ever seeing this thread.
I was going through Pitchfork a few months ago, and for whatever reason decided to look them up.
It forced me to listen to Chicken Switch.
It's not my favorite, with a few redeeming moments, but it's not the best of the Melvs.
And having read the review, it's only rated so high because nobody knows the remixers.
That much is true. It's hipster pathos bullshit.
Those are the actual scores. It surprised me too.

Too funny! Thanks for helping me to see through the cranium of the hipster reviewer,
and learn what's really important (to them (and not us)).  =D>

Come to think about it a seperate post/thread on Decibel Magazine's Melvins ratings would be good fun too. Though it'd be harder since it'd involve sifting through a ton of Decibel Magazines.

The ones I remember or recall as best as I can:

Everybody Loves Sausages - 7
Freak Puke - 6
The Bride Screamed Murder - 5
Nude With Boots - 6 (?)
Chicken Switch - 5 (?)

Somehow I had a feeling those hipsters would be more generous because Mike Kunka was on the album.  I guarantee you they would have not rated it as high if his name wasn't on it.

One day they'll top Chicken Switch!  It's clearly everyone's favorite Melvins record of the past 15 years.  God I'm so thankful we have Pitchfork for such great reviews!

Thought this was an interesting line as well

Quotethere's just no substitute for the intangible magic of a band growing into its strengths while still brimming with youthful passion.

Sums up the trilogy and even HAT period for me.

What about Basses Loaded. An appearance by Krist will surely add a few points!

It'll probably get a 6.1 with the reviewer moaning the Krist wasn't on the whole album.

Wasn't a terrible review. That being said, any publication that gives HAT a 5.6 should not be taken seriously when it comes to reviewing Melvins (or anyone else's) albums. Is Pitchfork still a big thing?
Hail, not fail.
PS:  fuck him.

I still look at Btichpork every day just because the sheer number of reviews the publish leads to me finding out about a new band at least once a week. I rarely read the actual reviews and when I do I never finish them.

Could you please pass some of that knowledge along to us here? New thread or what's everybody listening to?
