The more i listen to this album the more i feel a bit lukewarm about it. At first i thought the first half of 'Pain...' was good but now i feel the second half is far more interesting and that the first half isn't very good. I'm not sure i really find this a great track as a whole. I felt 'Mister Dog...' didn't entirely work and yet it feels much more cohesive and has lots more re-listen value than 'Pain'.

I rated this album as an 8/10 but now im starting to think it's more of a 7/10. Working The Ditch is the only great song. Smiler gets somewhat close to that. The rest are kinda mediocre.

well....i bought the cd at Zia records tonight on the way home from work. had the vinyl fr days but i don't listen to that shit. this album is freakin DOPE! it was the only Melvins cd i could find in the building, BTW. OUCH! they had a decent selection of Melvins vinyl but just that one cd.   

Listened to it again today - still amazing. I think this record is weird as fuck, I feel like they have finally hit peak Captain Beefheart Metal - I mean - what the hell kind of song is "She's Got Weird Arms"? And the drums all through "Pain Equals Funny" are really cool - they are driving in a way that is fairly intense. And Steven's bass sound is sick!!!! There is not a moment wasted.

so many different opinions on this album, make me even more curious to discover it!

I think it's the coolest thing they've done in a long time.

The new record is killer....some fresh produce on the one!

Hey buddy, sorry I didn't see this post until now. Would've been nice to say hi in person again.

Melvins were great. I pretty much knew what to expect with the set list but it was awesome nonetheless. Coady was a monster. Steven repeated the news about Dale's successful surgery and the crowd cheered.  Now I know what everybody's talking about with Buzz at the end of Boris.  It was pretty magical.  I didn't go too crazy on the merch.  I got Helen's shirt and I picked up one of the limited Electo-Bulls (37/46).  My first Uber driver of the night asked what was going on and when I told him it got us on the subject of loud music and we ended up figuring out that he had seen my old band multiple times back in the mid/late 90s.

With all that said, my night actually turned out kind of lame. I went with a friend who can often be a Jekyll/Hyde drinker. He's a really nice guy, always wants people to be happy and have fun but once he gets to that one drink too many stage, he gets ultra obnoxious.  When I got to his house before the show, I pretty quickly realized he had been slamming vodka/Red Bull and shots of Fireball. So, while Jekyll was who got in the Uber, by the time we got downtown, it was Hyde who got out.  I basically had to hide from him during the Melvins set but it pretty much took the wind out of my sails and I left him there after just a few Boris songs.  My fault, I knew better, but I probably won't go to many shows with him again.

I really hope that if the worst happens and Dale can't come back as drummer, i hope they kick Steven to the curb and Dale takes over bass duties. Then get some young, unknown drummer who plays similar to Dale to handle the kit responsibilities.
