Anybody know if this is available on vinyl?
I fucking love this one, I gotta hear it on vinyl!!
Any help appreciated!

No plans for vinyl at this time......which is weird. I wonder if they ran out of crazy ideas like issuing each song on a 7" and adding a cover on the B-side. Those were the good ol' days.
Thats a damn shame. I'd kill to hear those drums up load on vinyl.
And I thought vinyl was making a comeback...
They are never going to release it on vinyl.
NEVAH NO NEVAH!!!
Did you listen to the youtube melvins.net interview? I forget which of the five parts it's from, but Buzz said "A Senile Animal" on vinyl is coming out soon on Hydrahead Records. Quadruple gatefold with the whole thing on four 12"s? Must be at 45 RPM, I'm guessing. Nice.
knowing HH, they'll do some pre-sale special with all kinds of wacky shirt designs. should be stout...

"4 one sided 12's, isn't that only 8 songs? Aren't there 10?"
"bonus 5th lp with extra cd only tracks only an extra 10.99! "
Or maybe not, who knows.
I dunno, but I found this topic in a forum. I could see this what with Big Business being in the band and all.
http://forums.southernlord.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=26160
I'm really curious about when it's coming out and whatever else. I know Buzz said it was going to span over 4 records or something but, for all I know the idea could have changed.

Tom Neely is doing a comic book for the senile animal vinyl coming out on hydra head. The art looks pretty cool. Tom's blog about it is here:
http://iwilldestroyyounews.blogspot.com/2008/01/world-is-full-of-evil.html
and both 'Head For The Shallow' and 'Here Come The Waterworks' are on vinyl in the Hydrahead store (along with more Isis than anyone could ever need).

today i bought the OCRILIM "annwn" CD from hydra head and the the inside of the obi-strip i have read this one:

Quotewe've been hollerin' about this melvins "(a) senile animal" project for a while, but it's really, finally, truly nearing completion. in the next 2-3 weeks it will also be available as part of "(a) senile animal" box set, which will also include a 4 x LP vinyl version of the album of the same name and a fancy-schmancy melvins belt buckle. this shit is gonna be amazing - which sort of goes without saying since it involves the unholy trinity of hydra head, the melvins, and tom neely. we'll be doing some sort of party for the release of the box set with our friends in LA at the highly esteemed secret headquarters comic shop. more details on that and the exact release of the box set soon. the 4 x LP, belt buckle, and comic book will be available individually through the HHR webstore (and select retail outlets) for those of you that somehow mistakenly believe you don't need the super-deluxe-totally-fucking-awesome box set.
I'm down with the vinyl and the comic book. Belt buckles are for little kids, and/or hipster douchebags. I haven't worn a belt since I was 10.

in general, what is the purpose of a belt buckle? I thought belts already came with buckles.

Except it's usually the hipster douchebags wearing shirts short and tight enough to show off their massive belt buckles.
I wear belts, but there's no point in attaching a giant buckle to it unless I'm going to wear shirts 2 sizes too small and tuck them into the front of my pants, which would just make me look stupid.
Any idea what the vinyl will be limited to? I doubt I'll have the money to purchase this on release, but I want it so fucking bad :(
This is interesting. Not only disinterest but anger about the belt buckle. First of all has anyone seen the belt buckle? And what's the point of a Melvin's belt buckle? OK...what's the point of a fetus in a jar? or a tooth paperweight? , or the trick and riddle book?, or Colossus of Destiny?, or Buzz's hair?, or Buzz's lyrics?, or even the point of ASA on vinyl? That's what I thought. You wait. In the not so distant future there will be many posts dedicated to "I wish I had that belt buckle, that's what my collection is missing", or "I'm the best Melvin's fan ever, that belt buckle on my trophy shelf cinches it." You wait.

In the back of the comic book it mentions 300 signed copies to come with the Senile box set, thus I am deducing that the box set will be limited to 300.

could be, but those amrep singles a couple of years ago also were sold without the artwork. so more might not be signed.

when we did an interview with buzz in krems he told us that there will be 2 diff versions of the boxset, 1 "regular" version and 1 limited version, so maybe the limited version is the one with 300 copies...?

Do you have to remove the original belt buckle from a belt in order to utilize one, or does it somehow integrate with the original belt buckle?
It has to be welded on.
Of course Coady loves the cream filling.

You should know when I'm fucking around . I don't know I'd have to see it. Yeah, hot chicks that wear belts are cool. All I'm saying is I say too many emo hipster retards wearing ridiculous girl pants and oversize belt buckles. I saw SST sells a Black Flag bars belt buckle, and I saw it and thought, I'd never wear that.
I browsed through the comic book at the merch table. It looks real good, will have to get that with the LP.

Where is this damnit?
I picked up a kick ass American Flag belt buckle from JR's in North Carolina.
I'm not a hipster, I wore it with a suit and looked excellent. My hockey team had an informal competition going for best belt buckle. I think the guy with the spinning rim won, but I don't care, cause I love America.
Time to go start a hockey thread, btw.

you can kind of see the etchings on that clear vinyl... but the etchings will look like ass on anything but black vinyl.
I'm still on the fence about this one... mostly because I am guessing it will cost about 60 bones. Looks great, but I bet I can't afford it.
Another couple of weeks sitting in front of the computer hitting the refresh button on my browser. Whatever it takes. I want that ltd. box with the belt buckle
Yeah, they look really nice. I'm not sure about the price though.. Besides I wish I had a record player.
I'll pass and save my money for the box set.
that I won't be able to afford either.
the box set should really include a devil shirt in any size you want, free haircuts for life and $1000 cash.
I second that devil shirt idea...
but god damn that 4lp vinyl is looking really cool.
What's with all the lusting after the devil shirt? To each their own, but I saw it at the show and passed. Actually, this is the first time in years that I haven't bought a shirt at a Melvins show.
personally i think its one of their best. mine is from the nye 08 show and i had planned on keeping it under wraps. but it beckons me to wear it on sundays to the grocery store. and i oblige!

that is actually not completely stupid.
by my figuring at least.
2 digits is better than 3.
eh, I dunno. Is it stupid for me to spend that kinda cash for music I already have on a CD that I paid 15 bucks for? Yeah, I think so.
I'd rather spend 80-90 bucks on music that I don't already own.
Dunno if it was mentioned yet, but the album sides are all 45rpm too.
The etched sides are probably 1000 rpms, or more...
when is this thing coming out so we can get it anyone know?
According to the front page:
" The (a) Senile Animal 4xLP is set to be released by the end of the month (Sept.) "
There's no pre-orders up yet on HydraHead though, so I've been checking
their website, webstore and blog daily.
http://www.hydrahead.com/v3/
http://www.hydraheadlines.blogspot.com/
http://www.bluecollardistro.com/hydrahead/categories.php?cPath=4
90% of the preorders will most likely be from this board.

DON'T GET SCAMMED : Melvins 4xLP Update
Some jackasses are selling the Melvins 4xLP on ebay and on Amazon as though they've got the damn things in hand already...oh wait, as though they WILL have the damn things in hand around the 20th of September. The thing is, they won't. And if you purchased from them you should probably get a refund...not only will they not have the stock when they say the will, but they DEFINITELY won't cost $80! They folks are scamming the hell out of some of you, so please don't get fooled...

Yay! I'm hoping for a price tag of $40. or $50. I'll justify it as $50 for art. The belt buckle sounded nice, but the pictures are mehmeh. And releasing it two years after the fact chaps my hide.
That's good news thank you all. :D

i believe they're just talking about the release dates, not the release itself - so you're good.
Hydra Head with their crying is coming off like pussies here, IMO. Its capitalism, get over it already bitches.
hey guys, just checked the HH blog and this was posted:
Melvins 4xLP : Tentative Release Dates
These dates are tentative.
Saturday, September 27th 2008: Melvins : "A Senile Animal" Box Set (4xLP, comic, belt buckle, limited to 300) release date through Secret Headquarters of Los Angeles, CA. Pricing is TBA
Tuesday, October 7th 2008: Melvins - "A Senile Animal" 4xLP release date. Pricing is TBA.
now i can afford tba.
tba is " The 4xLP will be around $50, perhaps even cheaper. " that's decent.
i just want the weird belt buckle!

After what seems like a year...oh wait, it HAS been a year...we've finally picked up the silkscreen parts for the box set today. About fucking time, right? Our interns just can't wait to get in here and start assembling them tomorrow. The above pic is of the first of 300 to eventually be assembled, figured some ya'll non-haters might enjoy a peek at it. Inside is the 4xLP on a color of vinyl exclusive to the box, along with a belt buckle, and a comic signed by the artist Tom Neely (some of the comics even have hand drawn images, which we thing was pretty neat of him to do). Oh, right, each of 'em are hand numbered too. After we get the final invoices settled for all the parts that go into this thing, we'll be able to set the pricing and announce it here. One thing that is for absolute certain, is that Secret Headquarters will have a stack of these for sale on Saturday, September 27th on a first come, first serve basis.
that totally looks like it should be an Isis or Pelican album.

The whole thing is silly. Come on Hydrahead, you let everyone know multiple times about the fake e-bay listings.. at least let us know when the thing is going to be released + the price!
i hope its pushed back to October for my own self gratifying sake as well. If not going into more debt is cool too.
"We also set aside a small stack of these box sets for sale through our new "official' ebay store. We just set it up yesterday so its sparse at the moment, but over the next few weeks we'll be beefing it up nicely. The Melvins 4xLP Box Set isn't listed there yet, so don't go yelling about being unable to find it...you'll see them start to show up over the next few days though, so stay tuned.
If you want the 4xLP but just straight up don't want to spend $90 on the box set version, then stay tuned to both the Hydra Head Shop through BCD and to the above linked ebay store over the next week as we start to roll out the regular 4xLP edition. We'll make another post when it goes up...and don't worry, we've got plenty of them for all ya'll. If you are a store that wants to buy some to sell at yr retail location, give us a shout at teamleader@hydrahead.com and we'll see if we can get you some stock."
So it's 90 dollars and were gonna have to keep checking in on their ebay store if we want one. I can't see myself getting one of these before their gone
i hate to say it but fuck it
According to one of the hydra head blogs, the box set version of this is 90 bucks.
The regular version will be cheaper, though (Though probably not by much.)
Where is the secret headquartes website? They are supposed to be for sale, but I don't see them on the Hydra Head store.
how do you get it from secret headquarters???? i signed up like 3 weeks ago...i have no username, and they won't send me one. is this a fucking joke on us fanatics or something? seriously, i want this sooo bad, but its like impossible! has anyone got to order it from them?
I drove by Secret Headquarters at 11am. There was a line of maybe 15 Melvins fans. I would just call them up? I wish I had the $90 to spend. :(
Just got an email from Secret HQ. Album is available now. You have to have gotten the email and replied back to them. Album is $90 and shipping is $20 for west coast, and even more as you go east.
I sent me email in.....good luck :)
Oh yea, limit one per person.
i just wrote em so hope they call.

Shit!!!! I really REALLY can't see myself being able to get one of these I sent secret headqurters an email and I'm hoping for a response. If not I'm gonna have to just keep checking hydra heads ebay store. Does anybody know if secret headquarters would ship to Ireland?
I GOT MINE ON THE 26TH EVEN THE GUY SAID WE SEE YOU PUT YOURS IN ON THE 26TH IT WAS LATE IT WAS ABOUT MIDNIGHT WHEN I GOT IT.
I might actually have to whine a little bit about this :( I figured I put mine in early enough, but if people are getting phone calls and I haven't gotten one yet, then I figure I'm too late. Dang Darn Heck.
Actually, has anyone besides ChrisP gotten a call?
I drove up to Secret Headquarters last night and bought my copy. I got there at 8:45, and there seemed to be a lot of them left, over a dozen unopened boxes.
The albums and the packaging are excellent, and the comic book and belt buckle are cool too.
Sadly, I can't play my copy right now as my amp is in the shop.
One thing I did notice is that Rat Faced and Hawk are split from You've Never Been Right and History of Bad Men, but I guess that's gonna happen when you spread a 45-odd minute album over four sides (and four LPs) of vinyl. Oh well, with sides between 8 and13 minutes long, the grooves should be nice and deep.
whats the name of hydraheads ebay store??
For whatever it's worth, I live a short bike ride from Secret Headquarters and I just can't justify buying one. Can't spend $90.00 on music I already have. The Minneapolis CD set? Have one. The live 'The End' LP? Done. I like Melvins collector junk. I'll pass on this one.
I'm one of those that thinks LPs sound better than CDs but I still don't see the attraction for this. Major negative Karma for me I suppose for living so close to walk up and buy one right now and others freaking out that really, really want one...It's not fair...

I'll be the first to admit that I can't find any justification for buying this. The 4xLP vinyl... maybe... but this particular set? Nah.
That said, the world kind of sucks right now. People are losing their homes, livelihoods, and savings at an astounding pace.
$90 for this cool little set? Whatever. (A)SA is one of my favorite albums of the last few years.
Plus, I'm actually gonna wear the belt buckle. :D

yeah ill get the vinyl itself from HH but that will set me up, and ASA is one of my least favorite Melvins albums anyway to be honest
I want that fucking Ipecac box set though, like a fat kid wants cake
I've said goodbye to the box set. It shouldnt be this difficult and isn't worth the trouble. It's all going to be available seperately through the HH store anyways, is it not?
i don't think the belt buckle or the special box is. i kinda want to know whats up with the special box because i could really care less about the belt buckle. i mean i would like it but it isn't gonna kill me. but that box looks neat.

Well... it's a nicely illustrated cardboard box.
Like the rest of the set - it's well done... but ultimately it's a cardboard box. Kind of like a pizza box or something.
so if the regular set is $50 and the comic will be like $6 that means that the belt buckle and a cardboard box is where the other $34 comes from?
THIS IS ONE OF MY TOP ALBUMS BY THIS BAND AND ALSO THE BELT SHIT AND COMIC BOOK THAT DON'T MATTER.THERE IS ONLY 300 MADE SO THAT'S WHAT MAKES THIS WORTH IT.BUT IF I WOULDN'T HAVE GOT A CALL I WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE FORGET IT.
you have got to turn off the caps. also i have enough shit from them, i mean i have toys and a coffee table book and nearly all limited vinyl and signed posters. since i can buy the comic and the album (in multiple colors if i want) later i can do without the rarity of it. also since they are several colors available that makes each color limited to a certain number also so if you're just getting it because its limited there is a bright side in that.
im not and stop being an asshole
sorry if i was being a asshole
it's all good man
I got the box set and it's really awesome. For those wondering what makes it worth the extra $40, here's the breakdown:
1- A color of vinyl EXCLUSIVE to the box. Mine is an awesome clear with grey splashes.
2-The Box itself is cool. Nice purple art silk screened on.
3-The Belt Buckle is rad, and comes attached to it's own piece of cardboard that's 12x12 and has unique purple silk screened art all around it.
4- There is ANOTHER 12x12 piece of cardboard inside with more unique art and Box Set credits. This is hand numbered.
5-The comic inside is hand numbered, signed, and MAY have additional original artwork drawn inside the cover. A 1 in 6 chance of that. Mine has it.
All in all, yes, it's pricey. But once you open it up and see all the cool shit inside, in addition to the 4LP set itself (which looks and sounds great), you won't feel cheated.

I received my call at 5pm today, but I told them that I'd already purchased mine at the store on Saturday.
So - the calls are still coming.
Yeah, I got an email this morning from them and responded a few hours later due to the time difference.
Fingers crossed.

Definitely open that bad boy up; you've got some belt buckle-wearing to do! Plus, you can find out whether or not your comic has been doodled in.
Oh, the 300 edition is clear with a center splurt on it.

well two things.
one. i got absolutely no way of convincing the wifey its cool to spend 120+ on a box set when halloween, thanksgiving, and christmas is on the way
two. i'm really dying to buy either a digital 8 track(sorry my music is more important to me than the melvins) or a digital slr camera, cause i'm creative like that.

Easy:
I own the album, I don't have the money, I rarely ever listen to vinyl records, and I have no use for a belt buckle. I mean, it looks good, but when it comes down to it I'd be paying for a second copy of an album that I can already listen to all the way through without having to get up four seperate times. The only thing I really want out of the whole deal is the comic book. I'll just wait for the next awesome Melvins thing that comes out.

Hey Nick P, Hydrahead is going to be selling the comic by itself in a month or so. You can even grab the belt buckle if you wish.
It would be nice to get this, but I don't need it. If there were some different tracks than on the cd version I would be tempted.
But... if it had come out when it was originally released I would have definately gone for the vinyl version.
For me this doesn't really offer anything new (even though it looks damn amazing!)
I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for the comic book being sold separately though.

I walked in there Sunday night, asked for one, got one and am pretty happy. It not in the budget for me right now but whatever. It doesnt have any special tracks but whatever. I dont usually "collect" things, my last collectors record bout was the trilogy when it came out. I work at a print shop, I do art, I think this is nice. this is one of my fav Melvins record. I dont need to own every rare thing they put out, but a version of own of my favorite recordings by them is cool.

See my signatures.
gotta cha
Given time..I knew you'd get it. :)
yeah.. i don't do board much but am liking this one
somehow i am getting the impression that there is another color out there
the blurb on the home page "This thing is as thick as a book and limited to a one time pressing of 3,000 with over 5 sets of colors in varying numbers of each within that 3,000 pressing, most limited is 100, most available is 1000."
ok-- do the math
300 is clear w/limited edition boxset w/belt buckle and comic book
3000-300=2700
arguement's sake -- let's say that clear dark blue is rarest w/100 pressed since it is sold out already
2700-100 = 2600
now say that the yellow/blue version has the most pressed -- 1000
2600-1000= 1600
so that leaves 1600 pressed in the 4 color version -- but most pressed of one color is 1000, maybe 2 colors have 1000 pressing
so again for arguing say 1000 for 4 color version ---- 1600-1000=600
so me thinks there is another color version or versions
ponder on that one my friends
I think you are correct, although there may be as may as 400 of the clear box set versions, perhaps more

Fuck it, I think I'm gonna skip this. $49 for 40-50 minutes of music? Big deal, they stretched it out to four pieces of vinyl, with some extended artwork, and no bonus tracks. I paid $50 for The Trilogy at Cinderblock five years ago. Now that was a fucking deal. Probably the greatest artwork I've ever seen on vinyl.
I even bought all the Alternative Tentacles releases just because the price was right. That's what the Melvins should have done, is just released the damn thing as a gatefold 33 RPM single record. Have fun fetishing this highly anticipated release, but I don't feel like I'm missing out.

couldn't have said it better myself. i'm just waiting for the comic and the belt bucke to be sold by themselves. i won't miss out on those. already missed out on the comic when they came to Seattle.
I got the box set off Hydraheads ebay seller page, so keep checking they will be releasing more.

Most likely to make more money by not flooding the market. Just a guess.
no because thy would lose $ waiting and selling at the same price
they are just trying to be fair I guess, I just got lucky and searched "senile animal" the other day and there it was - pure luck
yeah i've been checking their ebay store like every hour

i got mine in the mail just a minute ago. It's so stunning in person.
the boxset has such humanlike qualities:-P
I got both of mine today too.. i ordered one for my friend.... I kept the clear blue one though :P
it is very nice. Now I dont really know why I bought it...because its going to stay in the box its been shipped in and it will never be listened to ever.
p.s.... are there more than four types of etchings? is there more than one set design?
ask your dad
no offense to anyone, but i don't really get this 'keeping it sealed' kind of thing..
do you keep your xmas presents in their gift wrappers too, unopened?
or are you planning to cash the sealed mint copy later on e-bay, knowing what a serious crime it is considered around here!??
whatever, i got mine yesterday and tore the plastic off right away, to get to see how it looks, feels and sounds. the whole thing is amazing! i'm even starting to like the belt buckle.. why not enjoy the thing instead of just owning it..?

1-1A "He wouldn't eat em for $100 in cash..."
1-2A "And $540 trade at Amoeba!"
1-3A " I would even eat mayo for that..."
1-4A "And I don't even need the money!!"
Yay =D> Stupid inside jokes etched on the record. I hope they don't try and "top" this when NWB comes out on vinyl. Just put the fucking thing out on 180 gram single vinyl. No bullshit next time. [-X
Not trying to rain on the parade here, but alert the rest of us when just the comic book is for sale. If I knew they were gonna charge $50 for this LP, I would have bought the comic book by itself at the show.
Great - looks like I have to pay an additional
I opened the box it came in... I dont know where you guys got the Idea that I didnt open the box. And I did put it together. I just like to keep it inthe box when Im done with it.
I dont need to listen to it because I have the C.D. and because I feel its a collectors piece. I doubt I will ever sell it but I just like to keep my vinyl in good condition. I like to collect things and preserve them. If you had a 1950's car in restored condition, you wouldnt drive it all the time would you? If you had an SS Dagger from WW2 would you sharpen it and stab random stuff with it?
Talk about sensitive.

I just scored my Senile vinyl yesterday to my surprise. I missed out on getting it at Hydra Head and gave up all hope........then yesterday my friend who runs a record store here in Edinburgh phoned me and said he got a copy in from his distributor for me!
I saw this today at the record store and was a bit surprised. It was selling for $75. I got the girl there to open it up for me becuase she didn't know what color the vinyl was, and it ended up being the same one i have. I also asked if they had anymore and apparantly it was only possible to get one in.
the 5th color is black and it's limited to 100 only...
Whodathunk black would be the rarest one?

Yeah, not exactly very enticing.
the black's going to be nice if it etched. I like how they're doing a draw to decide who gets these.

Well in general black is going to sound better and last longer than a color or picture disc record. Plus with all the art and colors in the other versions, it's kinda cool how black winds up being the "special" one. And fuck do I want one. Anyone on here actually have black??
Oh yes, I also just got set #2, clear blue, from HydraHead. I had already gotten #3 and #4 from there, andwhen I did #2 wasn't available. Now it's the opposite with only #2, no #3 or #4. I'm guessing there aren't many so to anyone wanting to get this on vinyl, looks like you should take your last shot and do it. Pretty sure #1 and #5 ain't happenin for you if it didn't already...
I ordered the clear blue yesterday and now it isn't listed anymore. looks like i got the last one in stock :D
I debated which to get for 10 minutes i couldn't decide multicolor or clear blue.
