Melvins Discussion / Re: King Buzzo’s favorite movies

There's more movies than these he likes. He loves the movie Cruising.

Opening Band: We Are The Asteroid.

I admit knowing absolutely nothing about this band. Not because they were not a good band, they were. They are a 3 piece and played for 40-45 minutes. But I was solely at Headliners for the Melvins.

Headliners is a perfect venue for Melvins. Spacious to accommodate but cozy enough to be right there where the action is.

Not surprisingly a good amount of folks in their late 40s and 50's were there along with a crowd of 30-somethings and younger since it was an all ages show.

I stood at the front right corner where Steve McDonald was performing in a dapper white suit. No crowd bumped into me or bothered me so I fully enjoyed watching them perform.

Moshing in the center of the floor really took off later in the set at the start of History of Bad Men. The most frenzied moshing of course began when Honey Bucket started.

The show definitely did not disappoint. The band sounded great. I had a great time and was grateful to see them again.

The setlist was: see attached file.

Not sure the Melvins were an influence on Soundgarden they started around the same time and in different cities and Melvins were a covers band initially too.

On Lanegan I read he caught Covid last year and it fucked him up badly he was in hospital for a long time and nearly died or something doesn't mean he didn't end up dying of an OD or something but I was under the impression he had been clean for some time and it would be fair to assume he was still fucked from Covid.
I read somewhere that Buzz showed Kim Drop D tuning. If that's true, I'd say that had some influence on Soundgarden.

Also totally agree with everything that's been said about Electric Miles. I'm very happy that On The Corner is such a strong influence on the band. Flawless album.
Have you heard the Complete On The Corner Sessions box set from like 10-12 yrs ago? It's amazing, best studio box set ever. IMO OTC could have been an epic double album. There's so much great source material that didn't make the cut by Teo/Miles. Some stuff ended up on Get Up With It & Big Fun.
Even in Miles autobio he stated he wasn't happy with the way it was marketed, and was super-pissed that Herbie Hancock's Headhunters album blew it away sales-wise.

I love me some Miles Davis, but Headhunters is a great album too. I'm not surprised it sold well.

Shevil is freaking awesome. Billy Fish sounds great acoustic.

Something is telling me this is gonna be one of the best Melvins albums in years.
Well, outside of the new cover songs, we already know the material. We pretty much know what to expect and that none of those songs suck. So it's natural that this release will be welcomed with open arms.

Yes and no. Familiar songs but going to acoustic could make you feel differently. But I have high hopes.

Something is telling me this is gonna be one of the best Melvins albums in years. Be honest some of their latest releases have been hit and miss.

It's pre-ordered. Highly anticipated.

Aside from a few songs, this album is kind of meh.

I'm sure The Beach Boys will enjoy their homage.
