Glen Helen Amphitheatre, CA
just seen this.... i kinda wonder why melvins are doing this... getting booed by the tool fans.
the money must be very right.
Nah, the bands are all friends, and it's pretty safe to say that most tool fans today are also melvins fans.
I'd have to politely disagree with thinking that most tool fans are melvins fans. At least from what I can tell from going to Tool shows in Northern California.... Buncha fuckin tools, really.
Or a healthy mix of frat bros and Burners.
Divorced... Live...
the melvins and tool played quite a few shows together around the time the crybaby was released. has divorced been played live to date? serious question. i dont think it has (and i may be wrong) and i dont see it ever happening. it's really a studio song imo.

90... something er other. what of it?
PS: somebody please tell me how much tix are for this. I want to feel your pain.
You won't find me in San Bernadino on that day.
Saw Tool twice (one when they were playing the Lollapolooza side stage and once when they had big giant production elements), Saw Primus twice (once at Lollapalooza and once with Public Enemy and Anthrax).
I can safely say that I do not need to see either of those two bands again.

That comment goes perfect with your avatar!
I'm interested in this simply because I still haven't had a chance to see either Tool or Primus.
I remember hearing Tomahawk copped a lot of shit from Tool fans when they opened for them on a tour back in the day. In 2001 Melvins supported Tool on their Australian tour but I didn't go price was too high when all I really wanted to see was the Melvins.
Hoping it spawns a future collab. Without Maynard.

I saw that tour in Salt Lake. Guy in front of me threw his gum at Tomahawk. Told him he was an ass hole and that tool should have opened for Tomahawk. He was a clueless tool...
I never understood how Tool attracted so many fans, a lot of them that clueless jock type in college like your experience. Makes no sense as their music is very pretentious, long and outside the normal.
Even though Tool are a bit arty I think it's because their music was accessible enough for everyone to get into. I remember back in high school Tool was the band you were into if you were in the know just about everyone in school that I knew was into rock/metal had taped copies of Aenima. A few good songs on it sure but for me there just wasn't enough there.
The lineup is:
Tool
Primus
Special guest TBA
Melvins
The Crystal Method

I wonder who that other band will be? Dead Cross?
Very likely. Would make sense.
Faith No More. Or a Patton of some sort...

if they put dead cross above MELVINS on the line-up list I'm fighting somebody. in fact... whatever that "special guest" is it better impress the shit out of me to be above MELVINS or I'm fighting somebody. and I'm not even going to the stupid thing.
oh bummer, wish I could be there. I'm a fan of both bands. In fact, I dicovered Tool at least 2 or 3 years before the Melvins.
Damn, that sounds like a hell of a show. Wish I could go; big fan of the Melvins, Primus, and Tool, and having the Crystal Method there sounds just strange enough to work.

Also have to join in the disagreement here. Every Tool fan I've ever met who was either aware of Primus and the Melvins beforehand or who I try to introduce either to despises the latter two. Tend to either be a lot of uber-serious deeper-than-thou art-school types who can't deal with any degree of humor or whimsy in their music and think Maynard is god (while somehow ignoring the huge amount of jokey bullshit that he produces), or people with more mundane taste who mostly just like Tool's singles and find Primus and the Melvins too weird or esoteric. Not kidding when I say I've never met a single other person with overlapping interest in those bands.
Not Dead Cross but Fantomas and Clutch have been added to the bill!
http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/mike-pattons-fantomas-and-clutch-added-to-tools-only-southern-california-show/
Dale Crover will be filling in for Dave Lombardo due to his Suicidal Tendencies commitments.
Such a cool show.. I look forward to the bootleg
Almost like the Geek tour from a decade a go.
So good that Fantomas is not dead....but they'll probably not play anything other than Directors cut.

That's what I think too. Obviously Dead Cross was out because of Lombardo's ST commitments which also rules him out of Fantomas but like they did for the shows they played in US/Europe in late '08 and in Australia in early '09 they can just get Crover to fill in and as he's never played in Fantomas outside of those 'Director's Cut in full' shows it's probably a safe bet that's what they'll be playing again.
I don't get Clutch being higher on the bill than Fantomas or Melvins either they should be below both of those bands on a combination of popularity/sales/seniority.

same when Tomahawk opened for Tool in about, must have been same 2001 tour. Patton Got into it with some hecklers and dared them to come up on stage, he said *Hey you hosers come on up here, tell you what, after the show we'll take you out for a plate of poutine!* (This being a Canadian show date in Hamilton)
and then said (and Im vaguely paraphrasing now)
Here, I got something for you, its not the biggest but...etc...then proceeded to pull his penis out and gave it a few nice big round cranks and flashed the entire crowd before stuffing it back into his trousers.
it was magical.
Anyway fuck the Tool and Primus fans, a bunch of imbeciles.
PS, I could see the Drum dual in Divorced being like some kind of Religious experience if they pull that one off..Danny Does those Disgusting Kick Drum Triplets at the end of the solo and man, I wish someone showed me what he was doing years ago, it took me awhile to figure out how he was doing it...he kinda does that at the end of aenima, I can kinda do it but it takes sustain to keep the kick flams going.
Now that I know Melvins and Fantomas are playing before Clutch, Primus and Tool. I may just go to this concert!
Only in San Ber'dino could a show like this happen. Some hybrid version of Melvins/Primus/Clutch should collaborate for a one-off of the Zappa standard for this show. 8)

I thought Pinky was a shared account of some weird married couple who just get off on annoying Melvins fans. Such a weird kind of trolling actually....for instance, I love fried chicken and belong to a message board of a specific badass fried chicken place, my fellow fried chicken lovers are the last people that I would troll. If I were to be a troll, I would troll people into shitty stuff, like Trump supporters, Lady Gaga fans, a message board used by bootlickers/racists/homophobes etc. etc. etc.
I think Pinky (whatever Pinky is) is just using the internet wrong.

What if Pinkyslim is that Jenner-chap, or now lady? Both female and male?
I had tix and a flight dialed up and ready but just couldn't justify it with adulting life being what it is. That said, I've always liked Tool and Primus, but adding Clutch to the bill really made me excited. That band is a bluesy riff machine, Neil Fallon is a stunning vocalist and lyricist, and they have pretty much "kept their heads down and done their work" for a long time. Should the Melvins be headlining? Absolutely. But what a once-in-a-lifetime collection of old weirdos still executing their bizarre version of rock. Kudos to Tool for putting it together!
So setlist.fm says they played #2 Pencil at this gig

An earlier colleague of mine, who now lives in Trondheim, a brilliant guitarist btw, is in USA with his family and went to see this band mix and he told me on Facebook that Melvins were by far the best in show and he has no realtion, them, except he`s a fan of Fantomas.
PS! For those who care to check out, he was the guitarist in a band called Necktie Party, pretty good in my book:

I think they've been through far worse opening slots for Tool.
But I agree, this was probably Tool inviting their friends and the individual fees must have been at least enough to get Fantomas together.

"Honestly, I would rather watch them in a smaller place with no production. Have them communicate to me, their live music on a much more human level, I think that would be way more entertaining and way more meaningful for me. If I could see them in a 1200 capacity place and you could look at them sweating, then you feel the meaning of it. I don't mean to pick on them, it could be any band on that level; they've lost what it means to be a band, and that's unfortunate, because that's what got them to there in the first place."
