these sound great!!

you may have to turn up your volume a little bit, because the remastering made them a bit quieter.

Melvins Discussion / Dale Crovers Kits
April 01, 2014, 07:02:29 AM
Hey guys!

Does anyone have some details to Dale´s not Tama kits?

I know that he  had one (or two?) Ludwig kits in Bonham sizes (26/24,14/15,18) and his "Piece of shit kit" which is heard one 6/8/10/26 songs and Gluey.

But...any detailed information on these?

What actual sizes were they?

What cymbals did he play back then?

ANY other information?:D

I don´t exactly know why I wanna know everything about his kits (maybe because he´s my idol...) but hell, I wanna know everything that can be found!:D

btw: my guesses on his drum sizes:

Ludwig: 26,15,18, 15 snare
Piece of shit: 20, 16,12,14,16, 15 snare

.If anyone has some information for me..thank you!:)

My Melvinsstory:

I love Nirvana for more than two years now and in February 2013 I read the Wikipedia-article about Dale Crover (he was listed as a drummer for Nirvana) and then I first listened to Lizzy, because I saw it next to a Nirvana video on Youtube.
For the next month I only listened to Lizzy but then I found songs like Oven or History of bad men.
I was flashed!:D
In may, I went to their concert in Vienna but I only knew some of the Houdini songs and I think two of Eggnog.
And then I REALLY started to love the Melvins.
And I found out that everyone else that I know hates them.
And that makes me sad.
But anyways, I´ve set up my set like Dale´s and I think Buzz has the biggest influence on my guitar playing!
They´re my biggest idols ;)
Since my birthday last year, where I got my first Melvins cds, I now have 16 of em!

See ya,
Markus

I just noticed Show Off Your Red Hands and Don't Piece Me share the same last lines.

"Never is an ugly word."

I think that "Don´t Piece Me" is an improved version of "Show Off Your Red Hands" ....Their ends sound exactly the same...

I just got H.A.T some days ago and I think I listened to it at least 500000000000 times.
IT´S FREAKIN GREAT!
I love every little thing on it!

Fav. tracks are The fool,Black Stooges and the holy Anti-Vermin Seed.
The seed is just great.

I know it :D
It´s a Remo Spoxe. The frame of a roto tom! They´re not aviable anymore but I think you could just buy an (for example) 8" roto tom, put the head and the screws and everything else off until the frame remains. And voilá! There you have your Spoxe!:)

QuoteMost excellent, I saw Dale Tuning his Tom during warm up, And, noticed His Tuning Technique.

most Drums require the resonator skin to be a little higher up than the batter head.

I usually have to REALLY REALLY seat all my skins big-time because I have some vintage, moody drums that are all slightly warped from being stored for too many years with the skins un-balanced.

That means CRANKING THE LIVING SHIT out of them and then Gradually De-tuning them all the way down untill they resonate as Dale mentioned...each drum has its own Sweet spots where It sounds best.

the CRACK from his snare was Just Devastating on the pre-5150 Op At Club Absinthe-hamilton.

I chose not to wear plugs (however I didnt need them in Toronto because the sound was at a comfortable lounge level as opposed to what most Sound guys think is best...by trying to Rupture the house Subs with the Low-end Knob on their PA control)  but Im suprised he didnt bust his skins or my eardrums, as he almost effortlessly broke about 2 or 3 sticks in the first quarter of the set.

as for his Huge Snare hits...

It was making me flinch, and blink even at about 30+ feet back, I havent done that since I had most of my hearing intact about half my lifetime ago when I used to watch the pipes and Drums at Cadet Inspection practices every year growing up, and that was from 15 inch by 12 marching snares Reverberating off the Brick walls of the Quad.

Dale, Nice Colour selection, heheh, Egyptian Mist!!!

pretty cool.

you are the Last Starfighter!  8)
