I have been listening to this album a lot lately. The more I hear the last song, the more it sounds like an homage to PINK FLOYD's ANIMALS album. The guitar on PRIG sounds just like the guitar on PIGS ON THE WING. The snoring before it begins sounds just like the pig oinking noise on PIGS (3 DIFFERENT ONES). Plus the name is PRIG, which is the word PIG with an R in there. "RIG" means to set up something beforehand, and it would make sense, like they set up the similarities on purpose to pay respect to the songwriting of FLOYD 20 years before. Anyone else notice this or am I just being retarded?
I want what your on.
I have to pass a drug test in 2 weeks... this is my 2nd day of sobriety in a row.

Good luck with that :D
Isn't this Pink Floyd homage enough for you homeboy?

Someone mentioned that the sound on Bootlicker is not a pig noise but Buzzo snoring. This is Melvins lore and I like to believe it's true.

I definitely hear this.
Thank you eponymous. And yes, I know its someone snoring, but it sounds like the pigs oinking on the Pink Floyd album. I feel like its just a really creative, melvins-style homage.
i love it when my 2 favorite bands collide. thanks....never really noticed that.

Its impossible to listen to that song and NOT think of Pink Floyd!
I was listening to Prig the other day and I was thinking it was a really underrated Melvins song. I do hear Pink Floyd and it wouldn't surprise me if that's exactly what they were trying to do. They wrote 3 albums of material during that time after all.
I heard that if you play The Bootlicker simultaneously with the film The Wizard of Oz... or no, that was something else.
Captain Beefheart Alice in Blunderland & The Spotlight Kid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVl9jZtLe9Y#)
a while ago i was listening to the spotlight kid by beefheart and was thinking this might have served as a big inspiration for the bootlicker vibe as well.

It really syncs up when Up The Dumper comes on.
I hear some floydian influences on the last track. Animals is my favorite Floyd album.
Look, let
you've never heard of humoring someone?
It'saul good, man!
I've seen the word homage so many times today, it's beginning to look strange.
If you are a "punk" you are not supposed to like Pink Floyd remember?

It's very punk to try to fit in with the punks.

I find it funny that the word punk is still used today since it has little to no meaning and I'm not sure it ever did. :D
I just listened to The Bootlicker and the guitar you refer to is an acoustic. Here's my point: an acoustic guitar can only sound a certain way, like an acoustic guitar! If you want to hear real homage to Floyd (all the cool kids never said Pink :toke:) then listen to some of the later work of the band Coheed & Cambria, they make no bones about getting that classic David Gilmour guitar sound.
you guys fucking crack me up, this messageboard is the shit!!! :D/

The Floyd, do you hear how wrong that is? I worked at a university cafeteria that played classic rock radio and I distinctly remember 2 stoners coming in and upon hearing Pink Floyd on the radio, one of them looked at the other and said "Dude!, Floyd". :D

My favorite concert rumor was that the Melvins and Robyn Hitchcock (w/ Graham Coxon) were going to be playing Piper at the Gates of Dawn in its entirety on back to back nights for the Pink Floyd's "Games For May" - 40th anniversary concert series. Of course such an awesome event was too good to be true.
Pink Floyd is good at best..
Kinda over rated.
I hear ya.
Just over hyped or something :-k
I prefer the Syd Barret in SMALL doses..
Anyhoot,
It's like the *cough* Ramones 8)
Someone mentioned "over hyped" as though that has anything to with the band. And why would anyone even consider The Wall when talking about good Pink Floyd albums? They had a long run and, like most bands, the latter portion sometimes stinks. The early stuff, though, is so obviously worthy of investigation and even praise. You don't think Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is a great album? You can't find creative/weird/wonderful stuff on every album between at least '67 to '75? How about '67 to '69? Have you listened to Ummagumma? I don't mean to begrudge people their tastes or anything but I don't know what excessive press coverage has to do with the band.
I love Relics, Animals, Ummagumma, Dark Side.., Atom Heart Mother. I even love most of the Roger Waters solo albums.
To get this back on topic, I definitely think the typography on (A)SA was influenced by the typography on
the re-issue of Relics
Pink Floyd only made a half a good album. Once.
I'm right, you're wrong.
their song 'one of these days' is a blueprint for porn (who covered it on 'experiments in feedback')
Pink Floyd - One of These Days (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQvG2SMVl84#)
I love all the pre Final Cut stuff but what's bugs me are the people who claim to like Pink Floyd and then mostly listen to the Division Bell. Dear God that album is atrocious and can't even be considered Pink Floyd.
It's sad if you can't realize the brilliance of Pink Floyd. It's like there's something wrong with your soul.
pink floyd is music.
(did I just take that too far?)

Drugs dont make Floyd better
Floyd makes drugs better

maybe if The Floyd were The Residents
