Melvins in Ally Pally! I'm so glad I was born when I was. Thanks, norecess, for taking my mind away from how to behead rictus for all the psychological damage he's done today. :)
damn someone got a post on this up quick, i thought i might be the first to start this topic,
personally hoping melvins and mudhoney fall on the same day, that will be enough for me.

i thought you knew by now how lazy i am, this means i have to actually leave the house 2 nights in a row.
and 2 journeys to london, which is still cheaper than staying in london i imagine.
anyway i might pass on mudhoney as ive not long ago seen them, depend how much money i have in may.and how many other nights i intend to leave the house and see bands.

This begs the question, how often do you see bands whilst still inside your house?

nice that they play on the same day! might consider a weekend in london now...
edit: and slayer plays on friday too! ok it's pretty much a done deal now. for one day though.
is it in london or minehead? cool... i might go, next year i have 15yrs aniversary at my employers and get 15 days extra holiday!
edit: just read it is in london... :D

If you promise not to make me drink and smoke as much as you, you can crash at mine. You have about eight litres more blood to soak it all up than me.
so this could be a get together for euro-board members... stallion? schnab?

i would have drank much more if i didn't have to work the next day :)
thanks for the offer. will let you know once i know what my definitive plans are... i think we will go there friday only and spend the saturday sight seeing as i have never seen london really except for watching the melvins at scala once.
seeing the rest of london will be shit in comparison to seeing the melvins at the scala, that is a decent smallish venue.
euro boredie meet up sounds cool, even better if some from outside europe make the trip too.
anyone know what gigs are like in al pal, isnt it quite big.
i nearly went to the last thing they atp had there but i didnt want to leave the house that night.
Last year was with Portishead, PJ Harvey, GBYO, Swans, Liars.. I'm actually considering a full weekend pass on this, apperently Mogwai have a excellent taste of music. I heard that tommorow some names of the Magnum ATP in march will be announced too, for the ones who are interested.
The mogwai guys have great taste in music, they signed DeSalvo to their label.

CAN I GO, MOMMY??? D :
looking forward to it :D haven't been to london for years! don't need to see mudhoney, i've seen them once a few years ago, and it doesn't rock.

well, i used to like them, but they were never my favorite band. thought it would be cool to see them though! but it was just a bunch of old stiff guys who were standing still, maybe doing some of those frog jumps like old ozzy, not rocking out, not sounding awesome. this was more than 5 years ago though, so might be they found some anti aging stuff, bigger amps, or started using those basketball jump training shoes :)

D'oh.
It will be the second time i'm seeing Mudhoney in London. The last time in the Electric Ballroom and they did a fenomenal job.. The first time I saw them was almost 6 years ago, and it was the first gig i've been to. I've seen them 3 times now, and every time it seemed they got a little better. Also very exited about Codeine :) Can't wait for the other names, there will be like 10 bands a day, if I remember correctly

was the elecrtic ballroom gig last year, if so i was there,
also i think mudhoney were the first band i went to london too see so they are kind of my first proper gig outside of local stuff, that was in the astoria i think, just found the date it was may 2004, so might be the same gig as you.
now everyone must be thinking how old is this old ernie guy.
my girl and i will go. we already scheduled our holiday around this time. it's going to be 2 weeks tour de england with the atp in the middle!
bummer that scratch acid is playing the march atp already... they would fit in there perfectly!
YEAH. Count me IN. LONDON, here I come! (Ha. I said come)
I'm going to start saving my pennies.
I always said I wanted to travel more, guess now is my chance to see what England looks like.
I'm not saying anything bad about Mudhoney, but that friday gig is just fucking obscene!

I'd love to visit the museums, Liverpool...and maybe visit Ireland, too.
I think I'd fit in there.
GUINNESS FACTORY, HERE I COME!!!
This is fantastic.
Ireland's perfect. Might live there one day. Somewhere close to the De Barra pub in Clonakilty, near Cork. Used to be owned by Noel Redding. Full of accordions, fiddles and pipes every night of the week.

i went to forbidden planet in jolly old england on my dear friend ingrid's suggestion after we attended atp in minehead back in '09, thought it was a fine place of commerce, found a couple action figurines to bring back for buds while i was there too. i've also been to the one in new york city, i'd be hard pressed to find a reason to talk shit about any store that carries that type of merchandise.
as far as atp, it would be so much more convenient to attend it since it's in London rather than the other side of the country, way different experience too though, staying in the chalet on the grounds of a holiday campground past its prime was also a worthy experience

Looks to me like the rabbit in the hat from the Twilight Zone movie, but I think we're both wrong.
Really happy with the new additions, Archers of Loaf! and Floor, never expected that.. Don't really care about Wolves and Yob, their last record was extremely dissapointing compared to their previous I think. Shame about Guided by Voices, rather had them on the bill instead of their replacement The Afghan Whigs, altough that will be a unique reunion show.
FLOOR!! yes was hoping to get a chance to see them...
also yob are great, or at least were great at roadburn. afghan whigs and dirty three is also fine with me...
don't care much about WITR.
overall this festival is shaping up really nicely.
meanwhile we booked our holidays, so it will be a week in wales, then atp followed by a few days in brighton before going home again.

Schnab and his brother in law will fly to London in the morning the 25th and back again to Norway the 27th, Bergen for Schnab and Oslo for brother in law. One must of course say hi to folks from here, but I come as Baard, not Schnabster. Hehe! My brother in law will understand fuck all, so I guess it`s ok to not get too "bbs".

Will not, and can`t either. Hehe! Just remember that Baard comes for the bands solely, so there will be a limited amount of time that will be spent chit-chatting. Focus, focus, focus!

My best ever Friend, whose favourite band was Melvins coincidentally, hated London too. As do I. What broke my heart was when his hatred of London overtook his love of Melvins. I had to start going alone.
DO NOT go down the same route. Focus on the job at hand, and forget where you are. Plan your day well, go overground whenever possible, and leave lots of time for a read of the Guardian in a cool pub somewhere. One thing for London; there are many very, very cool pubs.
Train travel is FUN. You go very very fast and you can't hear a thing. Take a small balloon of brandy with you for increased delight.
Go )))(((!
i love london! i used to go there all the time when i was a kid, and it was the first BIG city i really got to know. whats the film museum? or where is it? i know they have the skeleton of the elephant man in london, but the museum is not open to the public. i also went to this awesome museum there where they have an earthquake room. it looks like an asian supermarket, but you can hardly stand in there, because the whole thing is moving. i think it was south west of hyde park, could it be the natural history museum or the natural science museum? some shit like that. i also went to a huge dali exhibition in london - even cooler than the dali museum outside barcelona! and i love chinatown! just walking through it looking at all that weird stuff in the windows.. camden is also nice, but not really at night - you get asked "skunk? skunk? want some skunk?" like ten times just walking there.

I'll be hoppy just so long as I make it to melvins!
I would, however, really like to go play with the toys at the Forbidden Planet place :)
we'll definitely be going there :)
The location is really remote, in greater London, in a suburb, but the park and the palace looks amazing from bird perspective. On the website for Alexandra Palace they`ve pointed out a walking route from the nearest train station and tube, with 16 minutes walking from the station and 26 minutes walking from the tube. A cab is always a possibility, especially since the pound-course is very decent. (if you take 100 pounds today, you will, in Norwegian kroner pay 920 kroner vs 1100 - 1200 earlier) The bus stops at the train station. We have booked a hotel near Oxford Street, so the possibilites for transport are multiple.

Pre-booking for the trip back after the show is a must-do then. Perhaps has ATP also organized some buses to the centre of London also, if the capacity is set to 1000+? Norwegians never like to have things unplanned, plans are layed months before.
i wouldn't count on it - the public transport to atp is always HELL. the first time i went there, i went to london from stansted, then to bristol, then to taunton - at the train station there were supposed to be buses to the festival - but there were only regular buses (it seemed like). it was snowing, freezing cold, and about 200 people ahead of us in line. there was only a new bus about every half an hour. after waiting there for about two hours before giving up. i think we ended up taking a cab with some strangers because it was just impossible to get on the buses. the ride was more than an hour to minehead i think. on the morning when i was supposed to go back, it was also chaos - hundreds of people waiting for buses at the big parking lot outside the park, but the buses were less than half full when they left - i think there was some kind of system where you have to reserve a ticket. it took hours to get a taxi too. thank god maarten has the number of a cab driver - we always use him now - he picks us up at bristol airport and takes us directly to minehead. hopefully it will be better in london, but don't count on it!

End of may, warm weather, transport in London must be another chapter than Minehead. But cabs are definitivly preferred after ended concert day.
in 2009 the transport from taunton to minehead and then back worked fine, but you had to pre-book the tickets.
in london the shows finish quite early so you can for sure get a train back to the city center (and continue partying there if necessary)...
we booked our hotel at kings cross, from there there is a direct train to alexandra palace station. 15min walk is fine for me.

A lot of hotels at Kings Cross, good choice. I have a hang up on St Giles (Bedford Avenue), right next to the tube at Tottenham Court Road, Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Soho and Picadally Circus/Leicester Square. Not a high class hotel, but big, with entrance to a mega training centre with a big swimming pool in the basement. A bit more plunder with tube changes up the nearest tube to Alexandra, but we have an alternative with tube to Kings Cross and then train to alexandra palace station. Most probably it will be a cab to and from, although it will cost more.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking along those lines. I asked Tim, their guitarist/singer, when I saw them last month if it was their last tour, and he said "In the United States." Which led me to believe they still had a few shows to do back home. But who knows?

True, but they have been undertaking the biggest farewell tour of all time (were still going at Supersonic in Nov) so who knows?

Right after the US tour they did a couple of shows in europe.. They did said it was that last time to see them live. I wouldn't suprise me though if they do some final shows in the UK to end it for good
hmm, not a big fan of fake last shows! :D
so what are your wishes for the remaining slots?
i d'like mark deutrom and off! ...please.
i don't really need more shows - 3 is enough for one night :D but if i had to choose.. ween, deerhoof, butthole surfers, acid mothers, high on fire etc.. im happy as it is though :D
i will be there for the full 3 days :D
but yeah butthole sufers and Acid mothers temple (or which ever formation) would be cool...
me too, but only going to the shows on friday.

Hmm, should have thought of that at the time. Oh well, I'll be keeping an eye of it, even if it means I have to phone/email the crowd I purchased the ticket from 10 days before the gig.
From my email confirmation (although mine were bought via the ATP webstore)
"Thank you for your recent ticket order for I'll Be Your Mirror London.
As stated in advance of your order, tickets will be dispatched to all UK buyers around a month before the event
in April."
i've been to several ATP editions and they never send out tickets to people outside of the UK.

Yeah but I had to use someone else's credit card as I was still waiting for mine to get sorted. So I couldn't bring that with me to the UK, hence the ordering online choice. Anyways, no need to panic yet. It's not the first time I've faced this problem, and it eventually worked out the last time.

The ATP staff have always been ridiculously helpful in the past in my experience. I'm sure you'll be ok.
often all this means is that the tickets havent yet been printed so none of the ticket companies have got them to send out,
hopefully everyone will get them pretty soon, please post and tell us if you do.
mine were from ticketweb which has failed me a few times before, but worst case scenario has only ever been having to show my name on the door, just annoys me because they have kept the shipping cost without shipping anything.
also i have now ordered a e ticket for the saturday from wegottickets which tends to be the best price and they only sell e tickets , you dont have to print them out either, just be a name on the door, whereas ticketmaster, if i remember right , you do have to print them out, which is a pain if you dont have a printer
I remember at KOKO that there were one queue for people with tickets and one for those who had to collect a ticket via a reference number + id. Went pretty smooth.
I'm guessing they're sending the tickets out now. Got an email from the ticket agent where I bought the ticket from. It says they don't post overseas, but I am able to collect it once I bring the credit card I used with me. Still, at least I didn't have to call them.
yep, for overseas clients it's always pickup at the box office for atp shows. worked perfect the last time.
i wonder by when the last bands for saturday and sunday will get announced?

They will only be made if we get to see a picture of the real buttholeman. If he is real, that is!

Someone's had an anti-aircraft missile launcher put on the roof of their (rented) house by the military for these fucking Olympics. They complained to the MOD. They've been evicted. Anyway, that's for another thread, sorry. *Grumble, mutter*

hey bastard, we'll find you!
hmm. Is it really necessary to go by bus from the tube/train stop to the venue.. not a big fan of hot, crammed buses.

Cool! Just got contact info off Jules so will definitely see you guys.
You can walk from the tube, it's probably about 1km. It's signposted from Wood Green Tube station and the palace is pretty big with a huge spire on top, just walk towards it up the hill. The view of the city from up there is awesome. It's nice and warm in London today, it'll be great if it's like this on Friday.

mine was through ticketweb and arrived last week, was friday only ticket though.
email ticketweb and they will sort it out, you will just have to show i.d on arrival i imagine.
if you're not in the UK, you have to pick it up yourself at the ticket office.

Pubs should be open til at least midnight, probably later at weekends. I'll have some beer in my dodgy hotel room nearby, just in case.

Catherine Tate- How very dare you!? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C37U5VI4IyY#)
yeah that sounds pretty fucking cool but i will be at ATP for the entire evening.
The only thing I'm not looking forward to with this heat, is the smell at the venue. I really wish there was no smoking ban, because it only makes you smell all the garlic, sweat and farts. And old beer. Old beer, I can handle, and I'll bring the garlic. But the sweat and the farts? :(
I think it will be okay. It's in an actual Palace! Palaces don't smell of farts, that just doesn't happen.
bring earplugs and use them for your nose luni
nothing can be worse than the stench emanating from Watain a couple of weeks ago.
I'm ready.
Just arrived in England (I is americanish).
This weather is way too warm
See you all there

For the ones who want a drink or a talk with a dutchman tommorow, that hasn't really got any experience having english conversations.. I'll be wearing a grey Young Widows shirt, with a blue lined skull on it. I'm there all by myself, so I definetely wouldn't mind :)

That was a lot of fun, even though I failed to meet up w/ any board members. Loads to say but typingt on my wife's iPad is a bit of pain so I will be brief. Highlights were seeing Yob and Sleep again, loved both their sets and seeing those guys again. Slayer was real good at what they do but it did drag on a bit for me. Maybe it was the jet lag. South of Heaven perked me up though. The Melvins gig was really fun...seems like Jared is taking on Buzzo for Afro bragging rights. The Youth of America cover was tits.
After the gig I was in the Sleep dressing room and Dale remarked on my Kilslug shirt. Rock!
Saturday and Sunday were just as fun though a completely different vibe. More later....tons of photos to go through as well.

So, right at the front in the middle is Radster, then me in the white Wizard of Oz, then Alex- with his head sticking out the front of my head, then behind him with the beard and glasses is Buddy Holiday, then Oldernie's head and nose just visible on the far right where his political leanings also lie
SL from Next Door is the blond guy standing behind Oldernie.
Well done. Yet there was another 'partnerofaboardie' (word may need some fine tuning)
Ms. Radster is the blonde behind the camera. Whoever had guessed it would have won a pink Scion. Oh well..
no offense taken )))(((
she took it as a compliment!
floor and mudhoney were my highlights (i drank 4 pints in the 45mins of mudhoney...)
harvey milk, sleep & melvins were as good as expected.
the 30min of reign in blood were fun!

Tinnitus,
These are just great. Thank you so much for sharing. I look forward to any others you may post.
Sincerely,

From what I saw of The Melvins they were good. Unfortunately, due to a delay in my flight from Dublin, a delay in my train to the venue, and met with a long queue that I spent over an hour in, just to get inside (as I was told beforehand tickets could not be posted to Ireland, of all places that tickets can't be sent to), I ended up missing over half of their set. I'm sure the other bands were good also, but given the amount of hassle just to see the one band I came to see, it was a waste of time.
Oh well, better next time. :/
Damn, we were also standing in line while hearing the melvins play.. we only made it to the last couple of songs.. because of a crap hotel though! we even lost out on slayer.
the Celtics prevented me from completing my review...it'll be done tonight.
