I just popped in to my kcal record store to pick up Mike and the Melvins and was chatting to the owner about Record Store Day. Turns out there's going to be a secret 7" that is MC5 and The Melvins doing Rocket Reducer!
I'm not sure if this is a UK only release.
If anyone is going to be looking for it it's a plain, dark front cover (either black or dark brown).

rsd releases such singles as part of the "side by side" row. same song, original and a cover version. they normally come in a plain sleeve with a side by side sticker.

I just picked this up at my local record store for $8. It's the mystery side by side 45 for RSD. Red vinyl. Available in the US as well

Picked up a copy at Jackpot records. Since the packaging doesn't contain any description of the contents there were several available as people assumed it was a grab bag sort of thing. I hope they continue to do secret releases like this.

How did you know you were buying a Melvins/MC5 split without opening it? I'll look for this tomorrow. Hoping if I find it it's this release and not some other random Atlantic split 7". Is there a catalog/UPC number on the shrinkwrap? Please tell.
It's the one secret split of the year. You'll see a record store day sticker on the left with a question mark.
I went to two stores but it was long gone. Got Cavern Of Antimatter instead.
There were two left at my local store this evening after I grabbed mine, well after everything had been picked over.

From this thread. I don't believe there are any other splits that look like this. It doesnt even say Atlantic anywhere on the outside. There is a bar code on the shrink wrap on the back: 0 81227 94751 4
They had some other Atlantic singles that were the same concept (same song performed by two bands) but clearly labeled as something other than this.
If you're in the boondocks, check online record stores that are selling leftover stock. Chances are good that you'll find one.
I was traveling all day so I'll try to score a copy tomorrow.

I saw 3 copies of the new Clutch one 'Mad Sidewinder'. $20 for a 2 song 12" on side A with an etched b-side. No thanks, who do they think they are the freaking Melvins? :P I'll just wait for those two songs to be out on the Psychic Warfare Deluxe version in 6 months.
