That would be awesome. I'd love for another Melvins/OFF! teamup or a new live record.

Almost a certainty it seems. Funny how the band thought it would emerge this year though. I suspect that means we have quite a few Melvins releases backing up by now. Especially since they are probably recording something else at this very moment too.

At this juncture i wonder if that has been lost to the sands of time. How long ago was this mentioned now, about 5 years back? I hope at some point it will arrive.
My guess is this year we will see Melvins and Redd Kross team up for an album together.

You may not like it (i don't much myself either) but apparently that IS going to happen. Steve said Buzz asked both him and his brother Jeff to appear on a "history of rock and roll" concept album that the band were planning to record.

Certainly is! 50 songs they were alleged to have recorded together. 50!!!! I guess 'Planet Destructo' and the few with Trevor on 'Everybody Loves Sausages' make up some of the total, but still that's a lot of unreleased music!

The Melvins lite stuff is some of my all time favorite Melvins stuff EVER!! I really hope for more soon
You don't like it!!?!?! I find that quite surprising actually. I can't recall ANYONE else on here thinking the same. Personally i want more Lite, although i make no reservations about declaring my dislike of 'Tommy Goes Berserk' at every opportunity that i can!
All's I'm saying is if I'll pay $70 for a PR reissue and $60 for a GPT reissue in the last 16 months and I don't particularly like much about either of those albums.... Imagine what I'd pay for the Melvins Lite stuff, which I'm certainly JAZZED about.
Alex's Bar is such a great (ie small) venue.
I'm guessing the stuff Sylvia Massy has been recording is that history of music thing, since the bits that have been teased are Leeech and Wit Yo Heart Not Yo Hands and that will probably see the light of day soon.

That's what i think but then again why would the band go out of their way to record with her when they already have their own studio and an effective, dependable thing with Toshi? Im sure Buzz and co would just continue to roll with that. So im thinking this is something a bit more minor than a full-length. Maybe a one off release like The Bulls & The Bees was with Scion or some other deal. The two songs might just end up as a single or an EP.

I hope they come to Fresno again!!! Being able to see the band after three years of endlessly reading and listening to anything that had their name on it is easily in my top ten life experiences.
The funniest part about the whole experience is that my dad told me about how you can usually meet the band behind the venue before the show, and even though I thought the idea was a little weird at the time, I decided I'd go through with it, because it may be my only chance! We drove around a bit and checked behind the venue here and there, but had no luck. I was sort of bummed, but I didn't have high expectations, so I decided that me and my dad should just check out the nearby record shops or grab a bite to eat before we got in line. As we drove away, out of the corner of my eye I saw the unmistakable hair of the man himself, Buzzo, walking into a Mexican restaurant about five or six buildings down from the venue. Out of shock and excitement I uttered the most butchered sounding "Oh my gosh!" you'd ever heard. My dad asked if I wanted to go and meet them but I felt like I might bother them if I were to intrude on their meal. My dad told me they would probably be waiting for their food by the time we pulled over and got in there and it would be no trouble, so I had no choice but to agree. I walked into the restaurant, which was small and empty, so it was me, my dad, Buzz, Dale and Steve. I asked my dad what I should say and he said "just go for it!" I got nervous and did probably the worst thing I could do in that moment, I said "Hey... Buzz!" He turned around, clearly confused as to where the mysterious voice was coming from, but as soon as he turned around, he greeted me with a warm smile and stuck his hand out. I told him I was a big fan and he asked if I was coming to see the show that night. I said yes and thanked him for all the great music. I was so nervous at that point that I just ended the conversation there and didn't even get a chance to speak to Dale, the man who inspired me to pull out my fathers dusty old drum set and go to town. We walked out of the restaurant and checked out a few record shops, then I met up with my buddies and waited in line while my dad had a few drinks in the bar one building over. It was a great show despite an obviously drunk woman getting pulled out of the venue right next to me, and some idiot running up on stage and tripping over Steve's mic. I was right up front and directly below Buzz. To give an idea of how close I was, I felt the sweat from his hand hit my face a few times.

Great story - one of the great things about the Melvins is that each and every Melvin is a genuinely nice person. I remember when I was a kid, maybe age 14 in maybe 1987? I was at the Tacoma Mall in Tacoma Washington with my Dad doing some shopping. Low and behold, the Melvins must have stopped on their way from Montesano to Seattle to get something to eat, kill time, shop or just fuck around. But there they were walking in the other direction in the mall, Buzz, Matt and Dale. I kind of freaked out to my Dad about it. I think he thought it was funny - he told me that they don't look like rock stars. He had no idea that they were to me!

Speaking of buttholes, what's the status on Paul Leary? Is he ever doing anything with the boys again? Was he ever 'in' the band to begin with? I'd say he's just filling DSS and Adam Jones' roles before him as 'extra sorta-but-not-really Melvin' except that Hold It In put him up there proudly with the other guys. Then at the same time a lot of music rags seem to insist on crediting Hold It In as a "Melvins/Butthole Surfers" collab.

Read the press from back then. He was on the album cover, credited as the producer, credited as writing 4 of the 12 songs. Buzz and Dale said he was a member.

Despite what the band might say, i definitely don't consider Leary a Melvin. Okay he worked with the band on a record but so does Toshi. For me unless a person is performing on stage - then they are not in the band. Same goes for me with how Josh Graham used to be considered to be in Neurosis while he only did the behind band projections. To me that isn't being in the band. I do however consider Adam Jones and David Scott Stone as, albeit briefly, Melvins.

RE: Neurosis, that also reminds me of how Rob Sheridan gets credited as a member of How to Destroy Angels because he designs the album art and operates the stage visuals. Why not make Mackie and Walsby Melvins too?
When Pete Inc did visuals for Neurosis before Josh they very much considered him part of the band

As a side note, I think the neurosis thing is sort of a Crass homage. Mick Duffield got credited as a band member for projecting movies duirng performances and I believe this is the first instance of a "visual" guy being credited as part of an "audio" band- I could be wrong on that, though.
Monster Magnet always credited Tim Cronin (a.v.) as a part of the band (but had started as the drummer and sometimes singer). Same with Rollins Band and their sound guy, Theo Van Rock. It was in the CDs for both bands.
I wonder why Tweak Bird never did anything with Melvins*. Maybe because it was Big Business at the time instead of the rotating lineup as of now.
Still, it's one collaboration is like to see. Not sure what Ashton would do though.

That's a good question actually. I hadn't thought about that connection before. I will go so far to say that i DO like nice things - nice food, nice people, nice design but i definitely don't like niceness (however one might perceive that) in the arts. Be it music, film or otherwise. Speaking generally it just doesn't appeal to me. There's no light and shade, no push and pull. Just sweet and sugary prettiness.
One of the best things about Steven seems to be his work ethic. We could see seriously prolific times ahead. If the 'history of rock' project at all includes the cover of a cover of the Beatles "I Want to Hold Your Hand" they've been performing, then by all means give me an album of that.

Haven't heard anything regarding tours, I think Dale is working on a new Redd Kross album at the moment. I'd guess that history of music album is done, they're just waiting for the moment to release it? Who knows, it might still need to be mastered. Then whatever they were doing with Sylvia Massy, if that's part of the history of rock album or if that's something else (I heard it might be more special releases, but it might all tie into an album like the Beer Hippy and War Pussy 10"s). Isn't there a Void Manes collab that's been in the works forever as well? So yeah, stuff coming out at some point.
Not to mention an album with Pinkus and McDonald on bass. Productive times are afoot in the land of the Melvins.
At least we're all fans of a band that can be their more productive in sheer volume of releases in this decade than any other they've existed in! I'm sure we can find other bands that aren't as productive and the dead or dry forums within...

Even if some of the more recent era releases I'm not as keen on as say the Rutmanis era but there is certainly something to be said for a band that just keeps throwing releases out there. If you're not keen on an album or whatever so what there is another one right around the corner that might be your cup of tea. It would kill me say being a RHCP fan waiting 4-5 years between album releases, you might get one and think meh but then you've got another 4-5 year wait ahead of you before the next one might take your fancy.

Unless plans changed, it seems that's the next album to be released. They mentioned almost a year ago that it had been recorded and was going to arrive later in the year. Dale said it was a "weird" record. So i expect something a bit odd.
I think they have two or three in "the can" at any given time. The Pinkus one has been done since last January. I think part of the hold up is waiting in line to fit in with the other Ipecac releases. And the weather to be perfect to tour.

I would definitely suspect so. That seems to have been the case post-The Bride Scream Murder and aligns with when they established their own recording space. A lot of things overlapping and competed. Indeed each Winter i always ponder to myself "i wonder what the Melvins are working on right now".
As a purely speculative guess, i would say 2018 will deliver two new albums!!
They supposedly recorded about 50 songs with Dunn in the Freak Puke sessions too so probably at least another album of Melvins Lite in the can too.

Same here. For all my moaning and general criticisms, im ALWAYS excited about a new Melvins record. WAY more so than hearing about a tour anyway. I can't wait to learn more and to hear it! To read new Melvins interviews and all the other goodness that comes with a new release. As with all modern Melvins albums, i suspect i won't really like it all that much, but regardless im still excited about it.

wonder what is Pinkus playing on this, considering Steven is involved too..
Mostly Bass. And some banjo.
Steve plays less than you think.
That is about all I will say.

I will say you were right all along about this release. Kudos for that! You called it on covers and it being an 8 song album agggggesss ago!
Some of the event pages on their Facebook show all four members. Think they may actually tour with a double-bass lineup?

Yes!!
"We've had two drummers and two guitar players so it makes total sense to now have two bass players. We'll be taking this two-prong bass attack on the road as well which should prove to be interesting." - Buzz

I hate to be that guy that bitches about "how come you're not playing my city?", but upstate/western NY is getting the shaft on this tour. One date for the whole state of NY out of 40+ shows, and it's in Brooklyn which is 8 hrs from me. Nothing for Buffalo, Rochester, or Syracuse. Luckily the 3-1/2 hr drive to Cleveland is on a Friday which is do-able. There is a noticeable 3-day gap between Montreal on 5/14, & Cleveland 5/18, so there is a chance a show between Buffalo & Syracuse could get added. Probably Toronto will get it though.

It's crazy how fast the Seattle shows sell out now. I've enjoyed the wonderball room in Portland the last couple of years. Nuemos isn't my favorite from Seattle. I'm going to dread the year that I can't watch the live yearly show.....seeing them live from 19-31 I've gotta say there's nothing that compares to a live melvins show, whether it's buzz solo or a lite or a big biz./ melvins, etc. This is my favorite live band of all time and I'll continue until it doesn't exist..

No word on other dates surrounding it (Checked Columbus specifically) but if that's legit than holy shit.
I know I said I'd probably be at the Louisville date but I may actually skip on that and just go see them in Indy instead.
I am hoping this is the unannounced opener/co-headliner. Indy seems way too random of a one off show for Jon Spencer

Hopefully now they get the new album in production. I'm not spending $40 on vinyl. Don't care about exclusive Kat Von D artwork. Not using iTunes. Bandcamp. CDs. Please. This is gonna kick ass tho. Next best thing after a Totimoshi reunion, which they keep ruling out because of the drummer.
Looking at their webpage I actually think the standard LP art looks way cooler than the Kat Von D piece.
Curious about this band now

For my money they sound more like Social D than the raw energy and emotion Totimoshi exudes. But I still like em.

This statement makes me want to listen to that Melvins covers album again that the Mushroomhead guy put out on his label. I think it was called 'We Reach' or something, I've got the CD and might have to listen to it again tomorrow.
I guess I just better have a shit ton of respect for a band before I accept them going down the MELVINS road.

Now I wonder, what are guys doing now in June, on this their, noncharacteristic for them, break from tour? :-k
Golf.
No way, I bet they're recording something they're not telling us about yet.
Maybe even with Big Biz? They're finishing up their tour today and aren't going anywhere until August
I would like that to be true but I think that ship might've sailed.
How long has it been since they've worked with the Big Biz guys on an album or tour?
I think the last time they were involved with the Melvins was the Aus tour in late 2013.
They always record in the Winter. Im sure this is just a rest and family planned stop during the tour. Don't forget it's quite a big tour too. Perhaps they will fill some of their time printing up new letterpress merch of something.

Sorry, but you're not their manager Ian. None of us are. We can't know this for sure.

2016 - Choco Plumbing (Basses Loaded),
and some concerts in 2015.
The ship might indeed have sailed but we live in a strange world where weird things happen. I mean, one of the villains from Powerpuff Girls is now playing bass in Gorillaz.
And, the reason I'm thinking towards BB in the first place is because I think I've heard Buzz say he was cooking up something featuring Jared and Pinkus.
I think that was sometime after Hold It In, while AWWLAD and the Sylvia Massy album were still under wraps.
I might be remember it wrong....
But still - who knows?

I didn't know about those 2015 shows that's good to know as I had just assumed the Basses Loaded/Sausages stuff was just left over songs with them from past recordings.

It is a crazy world when Donald Trump is the now the US President and Dennis Rodman is considered an agent of world peace.

Sounds good to me I just really regret not seeing the double drummer action on that second to last Aussie tour, if the opportunity ever came up again I'd be there with bells on.
always surprising to see how many fans are into the line up with BB, at the time it seemed people couldn't wait for that era to finish, even though they released some decent stuff and a great album

Well... im definitely speculating of course, but it's somewhat rooted in Melvins past practices. Who knows, perhaps they will work on something but for what they've said before i would be pleasantly surprised. Buzz doesn't seem to ever want to stand still so i imagine him working on something. Whether that's recording, writing or just knocking out some merch stuff is anyone's guess. As far as their recorded work goes, the band probably have at least 2 albums already in the can waiting for release so i doubt there is any short fall on that side of things.

Doesn't look so likely that we'll get anything else in 2018 does it. Earlier this year i was pretty convinced that after dropping such a short record which consisted of mostly covers and none Buzz numbers, that we would get something else Melvins shaped by October/November. Perhaps something a bit more low key like that rumoured Void Manes effort. Although now i doubt it. 2019 it is!
I'm guessing they'll launch the non super limited A Walk with Love and Death movie bundles at some point, at least I hope so since I missed the first batch.
Album with Void Manes still happening or did it morph into the movie/ ambient experimental sound track thing?
